Thanks for the help, everyone!

I don't know why running is harder than spending ten or fifteen minutes in the wrestling ring! lol

My husband says the same thing! [8D]

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (12/11/2007 3:59:20 PM)

Kinda of like why I'm sore today... It's still too icy to run outside so I've been doing other stuff inside. It doesn't feel like as "hard" of a workout - but I'm already sore! I think it's just each exercise uses slightly different muscles - and when you start something new, you will feel every muscle that is being used a little differently for a while! [:D]

I have no idea, but I've tried other cardiovascular exercises and I stick to running because it's the best workout. It's the only thing I feel that gives my entire body a complete and satisfying workout! I've cycled (indoors and outdoors), used elliptical machines, stairmasters, and running just does it for me.[:D] I stick with what works for me, though I'm sure other people will swear by their own preferred exercises.

Today was such a gloomy day, foggy and dreary. Not cold, surprisingly mild, but that gloomy weather with the grey clouds in the sky just killed the motivation to run today! I'll probably just do free weights and other anaerobic exercises inside today. I feel as if this wet, misty weather has never let up. It's been like this for a couple days already. I was able to brave the weather to run outside on Sunday, but not today. Oh well! [:D]

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (12/11/2007 8:58:43 PM)

I am running because I need to burn more calories

I am not addicted to it yet, but get cranky if I don't go. But then it did get me outside in the cold so, maybe I am)

Plus I get in better shape when I run (stronger legs and even abs somewhat)

Didn't make the whole thirty minutes but that's ok because these shoes are worn out so I will buy some on Thu or Fri before I run again.

My legs were tired too, took a long time to warm up so only the last few minutes were at a decent pace.

Been raining all day here too. Real gloomy. The gym was pretty busy.

McFatty -> RE: The Running Thread (12/12/2007 4:20:20 AM)

I got a half-mile in thrice today with a half-mile walk in between each. It worked pretty well, but I thought I was going to fall out toward the end of the third leg. It's my first time running in a couple weeks (due to a cold) though, so I'm sure it'll get better.

I think the running is the exercise that "does it for me" is because of the RUNNER'S HIGH that I get from it. [:D][:D] The only "bad" thing is that it takes me a while to get it, so I can't just go for a quick run...It takes a while for it to kick in.

Miss Giggles, I bet you are more addicted to running than you think, if you are cranky when you don't get to. Welcome!! [;)]

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (12/12/2007 11:29:28 AM)

Tell me about being addicted to running... I'm in "recovery mode" post marathon. My coach is really limiting my running. I am going NUTS!!! I did 3.6m (30mins) this morning after my swim. Tomorrow, I'll ride for an hour, then a short 2m run. Swim only on Friday. Then a "long" run on Saturday--only 45mins. Yah, I'm cranky!!!

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (12/12/2007 11:45:24 AM)

My tights came in the mail and they fit really well except they're kind of long. Oh well, they'll just have to be bunchy around the bottom. They're made by Sugoi. And I don't feel as self-conscious in them as I thought I would...what with showing every curve and all. [sm=eek.gif] [8D]

Yeah, I hear ya. It takes longer and longer for me to get that "runner's high" too.[:D] You know, when your body hits that point where the intensity you run or exercise at isn't good enough, you have to increase the difficulty. It sucks, oh well, it's either run harder/faster or longer.

LOL. I agree with Calea. You know you're an addict when you get restless if you don't run! Today is very mild, in the mid-60s, so I will definitely go out later in the evening for a run. It's still cloudy out, but the sun tried to peek out for a bit earlier.

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (12/12/2007 3:23:03 PM)

Uh-oh! I'm an addict then![:D]

I haven't been able to run outside since Sunday because of the snow/ice and this morning I decided that even though the roads weren't totally cleared I NEEDED to get out there. I ran a total of about a 1.5 miles with 2 short walks in the middle where the road was still really icy and it was on a downhill curve (and I didn't want to kill myself!). It felt great! I was planning on just doing a mile but I just had to keep going!

Oh, those are the best, when you feel like you can keep going and going. I haven't been able to run since Sunday either so I'm getting itchy feet.LOL.

Calea37 -> RE: The Running Thread (12/12/2007 4:37:18 PM)

What a great thing to be addicted to, though...(IMHO [:)] )

I'm impressed with all of you penguins who go out on that ice. I would be afraid of falling, breaking/injuring something, and really not being able to run!! Oh the horror!!![sm=shocked.gif]

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (12/12/2007 6:33:08 PM)

I ran through all sorts of snow and ice last winter. I only fell once. There was just a light covering of ice on the road. My oldest son went out for a run. He made it to the end of the street before he fell. He wisely walked home. So I knew it was slippery... I made it 4m through a 4.5m run before I fell. My feet just slipped out from under me and down I went!

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow. From what they are requesting, I'm afraid it might be bad. I talked to my coach. If things are bad and I need to blow off a bit of steam he will allow me to do a kicker of a run on Friday. I need to run.

Hope you're all right--let us know how it goes.

I had a good solid run tonight...right at two miles, which is amazing for someone who hadn't run more than ten feet in the past 20 years. [8D] The tights are AWESOME! My legs stayed toasty warm and they are definitely windproof! The wind here is brutal most days. [:'(]

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (12/12/2007 10:30:19 PM)

Yeah let us know!

Good on the tights, I have the underarmour and they are warm, like you they are an inch too long but I had to take what I could get since they couldn't be altered

Just don't increase your mileage too quickly when you are starting out.

Rested today, going to try to get to the gym tomorrow.

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (12/13/2007 1:28:39 PM)

I sat on the bike for 60mins and went nowhere. I never did get into that workout. Then I went for a short little jog. 2miles at a 8:24pace. Not bad. Not bad at all!

I saw a surgeon for enlarged lymphnodes in my groin. He doesn't think it is anything. He just wants to wait and see. What a relief!!!

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (12/13/2007 4:04:27 PM)

That's good to hear!

I ran a slow 2 miles today. It felt good and almost all the ice was gone... Of course, they are predicting more snow so that may not last....

rnershigh -> RE: The Running Thread (12/13/2007 4:24:41 PM)

I had a good run yesterday, though the temps dropped considerably in 4 hours (it was mid-60s and then it felt like mid-40s!). Crazy! The sun never did come out again, and it was grey clouds. Today isn't any better, drizzle and chilly and grey, grey, grey![8D] I feel like I haven't seen the sun in ages and I can't get myself to go out in this miserable weather. I'd love it if there were snow falling, at least then it would be more pretty.LOL.

phosadaud,
Glad to see you had a good run today![:)]

That's what some people say about treadmills, LOL

Your pace is good

I got my new shoes, almost half off since they are discontinued so I will have to figure out which pair to get next.

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (12/13/2007 6:44:58 PM)

Giggles--what shoes are you wearing? You can often get older shoes online/mailorder. Check the back of Runner's World or Running Times.

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (12/13/2007 8:42:12 PM)

The asics gt 2120. Dick's Sporting Goods had them on clearance for 59.98 + I had a 10.00 off coupon. I would have ordered them if there weren't any in stock but they are only 5 minutes away.

I did my 30 minutes today, I slowed down the pace a little to not have as high a heart rate, it worked, I felt like I could run an hour, not tired at all. Also did the elliptical too instead of walking and I burned more calories, hopefully I can start loosing weight!

I just said the same thing this morning....I feel like I haven't seen the sun in a year! It is hard to get motivated to do anything. Yesterday I had a really short run, so today I HAVE to get my butt to complete the full run. Kick in coffee....kick in!!! [sm=crazy.gif]

I wonder if all the Dick's Sporting Goods has them on sale? I should "run" down there and get some too!

I would like to start losing weight too, but the odds are NOT in my favor with Christmas cookies at my mom's right around the corner!

Are you on there mailing list? if not go to the website and look at the flyer for your area. The shoes are supposed to be discontinued but i think asics might be bringing them back

NOOOOOOOOOO! They can't discontinue them!!! I don't want to try to find another shoe!! [:(]

I am on their mailing list; I'll need to look for coupons. Sometimes I throw things out without looking at them. My husband really frowns on that when I accidentally do it to bills!! [:D]
