I hear you on not wanting to look for new shoes!!! I've been wearing Brooks Adrenaline 6's forever. Ya know that Airwick commercial where the elephant is complaining about her husband leaving his shoes out and throws his shoes in the closet--and her husband is a cenepede? That's about what my closet looks like... I tried the 7's, but the new Gojo stuff just doesn't work for me. So, I ordered a bunch of 6's. I just wore out my last pair. My running store is great. They found the shoes that were most like the Adrenalines--Brooks Vapor. But, Brooks will be adding Mojo to those next time around... As far as losing weight... 4 years ago I decided I didn't like where I was. I started running and easily lost 20lbs, and settled right around 125lbs. But--I have two different weights: summer and winter. Summer I'm right around 118-120lbs. Winter without changing my habits at all (even trained for a marathon last winter!) I'm right at 128lbs. When it's colder, I think our bodies naturally want to hang onto fat. I was in the fishbowl this morning. Swam for 52mins. I was practicing flip turns and wasn't keeping track of my laps very well. I know I went way over what my coach wanted. Oh well... But, coach wouldn't let me run this morning. I'll be lucky to get 10miles this week... This after maxing at 40+miles just a couple weeks ago. I am going NUTS!!! Tomorrow's run should be in the snow. I can't wait!!! First, I'll get in about 6miles. Second, I'll be running with my group again. Third, there is nothing like running in the snow!

Weird I weigh the same all year but maybe cause I usually have a gym membership. I wear a size 6 shoe so I don't think they will be sold out!

Doing pretty good phosadaud! I'm debating whether to run right now (while there's still some daylight) or eat. I'm hungry, but I also want to run. I know when I've run when I was hungry in the past, that's all I could think about! Just imagine running by McDonald's and Popeye's (I run by a shopping mall) and you can see how horrible it is to run and smell french fries and fried chicken in the air!LOL Hmm...I think I'll be brave and run.

ORIGINAL: Calea37 I vote for running through the restaurant...stop and eat...then keep running. In case you haven't noticed, I am not exactly the poster child for good health! I try..but hey, we run all these miles; let's eat! Calea Heh, on several occasions I almost stopped into the McD's to get some french fries (I only eat their fries), but I never have. I always tell myself, "Next time" and there is usually never another "next time" quote:
ORIGINAL: his_chosen Wait--isn't that why we run? So we can eat?? I know!! It's a good thing I run because I can eat.haha I'm anywhere from 120-125 lbs year-round, I don't deviate from that, and I credit that to a lot of running! When people tell me "how can you eat so much I wish I could" I almost want to tell them: Well, if you ran a lot and supplement that with weight training, it'd be easier to indulge in a splurge of bad food and not feel guilty about it. I think a lot of people want it easy and can't imagine how I can keep myself to my running and like it. Especially when I tell them I run in all kinds of weather (I usually get incredulous looks as a person can't fathom someone willingly going out in bad weather just to run!)....rain, wind, snow, or shine. Will of iron baby. Speaking of running in all kinds of weather, I about froze out there tonight. Incredible how much warmth the sun gives cuz I was miserable the whole way. I wasn't thinking, it was so warm all day so I didn't put as much layers on, stupid me.

Hello to all !! Anyone in marathon training right now ??? Anyone running Disney next month ??? Sorry to hear about cold, ice & snow for some. We are heading into the heart of our running season down here in SFL, but still waiting for it to cool off. Here, long runs are best started early enough that you can finish them by 8am or else it is just too hot. Peace, DNP

Hi DNP! I think his_chosen is the only marathon runner so far. The rest of us are mid-range (1.5-5 miles) and a few are getting started. I know what you mean about the heat. While it is quite cold here now, our summers get very hot - a typical day is in the 90's but it isn't unusual to break 100F. This is one reason I run very early in the morning... Heat just saps all my motivation!

DNP--I ran Tucson two weeks ago. My coach still has me in recovery mode. I'll start training for my next marathon (Athens OH, April) next month. Ironically, way back in 7th grade, our choir sang Dona Nobis Pacem. Hadn't though of it for years. We're talking 28yrs ago... On my last long training run before Tucson, that song got stuck in my head. Not a clue what made it come to mind.

Peace, DNP Actually, if I could choose between running in the sweltering heat and humidity and running in the cold, I'd choose the cold. When I went running at sunset yesterday, it was cold yes, but I wasn't tired or ready to drop dead from the heat (like I would be if it was in the summer). During the run I pretended that it was really hot and to my surprise it helped me ignore the cold. After a while, your body warms up enough where you do feel hot and the cold is a relief. quote:

The summers here are pretty bad too, so hot and humid it's horrible.

His_Chosen, Just for my own curiosity, how much do you run a week? I have never run a marathon (and I really don't think I would want to; not sure) but I would be interested in running a half marathon. Right now I run between 40-45 miles a week. My runs are 7.5 miles a day/six days a week. I don't work on speed, though, and wonder if I should? I am thinking that since a half is only a little over 13 miles it wouldn't be much of a stretch (although the longest I have ever run at once was I think a little over 9). I use a treadmill and keep the incline at 4.5 to 3.5 and believe that if I were outside my speed would automatically be better just because it wouldn't be a steady incline. (?) Part of the reason I have never done a half is that I don't want to compete or even feel like I am competing...I know that it would ruin my fun. I love running and don't want it to feel like "pressure." (I have enough pressure!) Should I cut one day to 5 miles and work on speed that day if I were going to do a half? What do you think? Thanks, Calea

Fortunately, I live in a desert so we don't have the humidity. I can't stand feeling sticky all the time!

When the humidity is really bad, even the morning runs are miserable. I remember on several occasions, I felt like I couldn't breathe the air was so humid. Even carrying a water bottle and splashing myself didn't work since the air was so saturated the water on my skin couldn't evaporate to cool me off. Pure misery on those runs! So a nice brisk, cold run in the fall/winter months (while very cold and biting) is very nice.

Calea--I don't have a "standard week". I participate in various activities, so we go by what event is next. Generally, I'm around 20-30 miles/week. Closer to the marathon, it will be 40+. Right now, my workouts look sorta like this: Monday--rest Tuesday--yoga class, swim Wednesday--swim, run Thursday--bike, run Friday--swim, run Saturday--long run Sunday--long ride or ride/run I am certain you could complete a half marathon. Cut one of your daily runs down a bit, and add those miles to a long on the weekend. When I ran my first HM, finishing I felt like a million bucks. I ran a 2:28. We're talking bottom 25%. But, I finished!!! I ran a couple more, then a full. The following season, I was SHOCKED when I placed 2nd in a smaller HM. I have placed in other smaller races. It is kind of fun, but then, you start to compete and if the race doesn't go well it can be very disappointing. Today, the snow didn't start until after my run. Oh, well, I had a great run, even if I did run it too hard. 6m, 52:58, 8:43pace. Funniest thing happened... My doctor is one of the running group coaches. I've had this nasty cough and wanted to know how long I should let it go. We stopped at a water stop and got to talk with him there. At one point, he takes a step to the side and blows a snot rocket. Oh... now that's professional!!! Unless it improves, he wants to see me Monday. That's what I was thinking...

Ewww! That is pretty disgusting. I am very relaxed. Need to take a shower, but I ran farther than usual today. Spur-of-the-moment decision, I just kept going.
