Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (12/15/2007 3:51:26 PM)

Wow i thought was a good time for a half and that's in the bottom 25%? Wow I'd be in the last percentile probably.

Going to the gym later. I skipped yoga today because I wasn't sure if the instructor was going to show up. But I got an outfit for the next yoga class, which I needed anyway.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (12/16/2007 1:23:29 PM)

My run yesterday was good. Two miles around the neighborhood. It had snowed on Friday and it appeared to be melted off already, but there were some slick spots. I nearly fell twice, but both times I was walking, not running. Figures.

Today is the first time I haven't been sore the day after running. I must finally be doing something right! [:D]

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (12/16/2007 1:26:41 PM)

Yeay for no soreness, that's probably what makes a lot of people quit right away.

We have six inches of snow right now, was going to get up early today but I knew that never works for me on a weekend so I did my run on the treadmill last night.

So I will try to go to yoga tomorrow. Run too if I am not tired.

I still haven't cleaned off my car and I don't feel like doing it [&:]

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (12/17/2007 3:24:59 PM)

No more snow here but maybe tonight... Seems we only get it when they don't predict it though so I'm not too hopeful! [:D] I did a light 1.5 mile run this morning. I am so beat from yesterday (not from exercise - between church and our Christmas programs, I was gone most of the day and I'm tired!).

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (12/17/2007 7:22:32 PM)

I went to the doctor today. He wasn't suprised to see me, since we ran together Saturdya. He gave me antibiotics for my cough. He didn't tell me NOT to run... Today was a scheduled rest day. TOmorrow, I have yoga and then swim.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (12/18/2007 10:08:05 AM)

Let me highly recommend the Sugoi MidZero tights. I love them! My runs are so pleasant now--no matter what the temperature. [:D]

Anyone use an online training log? I use the one at Runner's World, but it doesn't let you make it public, which I kind of don't like.

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (12/18/2007 3:17:03 PM)

The only thing I keep is a list of my record times and such.

I ran 2 miles today. It was raining which around here most people hate, but I loved it. It was in the mid-30s which felt nice compared to what it has been... I think I will take tomorrow off so I'm not too exhausted for the race on Saturday.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (12/18/2007 3:31:46 PM)

What race are you running on Saturday? I don't think there's another race here until April. (Although that's plenty of time for a beginner to train. [:D])

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (12/18/2007 4:02:15 PM)

It's called the "Cable Bridge Run". There are 3 distances: 1 mile, 5K and 10K. It's a lot of fun. I'd say about half the folks walk it (the mile or 5K). Last year a group showed up as "reindeer" - tied themselves together and carolled the entire way. It's a really big community event around here and a lot of fun. At the finish, they have a party type atmosphere.

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (12/18/2007 4:07:28 PM)

I use Training Peaks. I have a coach, and he posts a workout schedule for me. Once I do the workout, I post the data, either by hand (swimming) or upload from my Garmin (run/bike). This works very well for me. I think it's $15/mo by yourself or $10/mo if you use a coach who uses it. My first coach used it, then when looking for another coach I just looked to see who was in the area who used it.

I have a couple races this winter. I'll most likely do a New Year's Day 5K. I should be able to place there. The end of January, there's a 15miler. Should be fun!

I can't believe how much better I am feeling! I'm not coughing near as much as I was. And my lungs feel so much clearer. I'm really looking forward to running tomorrow!

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (12/18/2007 5:48:30 PM)

I have kinda started the log at runnersworld.com. I had one at cool running but I haven't played around with the new format yet. That was the easiest to use. I don't have mine public though since I figure no one wants to see my slow times.

Didn't get a good run yesterday, not sure if I am going to the gym tonight, but if not tomorrow. So I did the elliptical as well

rnershigh -> RE: The Running Thread (12/18/2007 6:56:58 PM)

Good to see everyone running! At least someone is.[:D] Last time I went was Saturday, and the past 3 days it has been bitterly cold and windy I couldn't get myself to run. Yesterday, I saw several people braving the cold weather and running outside, but even that couldn't motivate me (usually it does). So the past 2 days I have been doing more weight training to compensate for the no running. Tomorrow I'll run. Hopefully I won't chicken out again.heh.

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (12/19/2007 2:03:12 PM)

Stella you can make the runnersworld log public. I am just trying to figure out how to add in more cross training in the fields besides swimming and cycling.

rnershigh -> RE: The Running Thread (12/19/2007 4:32:54 PM)

I'm about to brave the cold to run. I wish it didn't get so dark so early though. Oh well, got the reflective gear on so I should be okay.

I figured it out.

Oddly, we've had a spell of warm weather. So it looks like I'll be running today in shorts and a t-shirt. It's nearly 70 degrees! [sm=eek.gif]

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (12/19/2007 5:30:03 PM)

No fair [:D]

Dona Nobis Pacem -> RE: The Running Thread (12/19/2007 10:10:34 PM)

If you have a Garmin you can use the motionbased.com website to upload and display your runs.

It allows you to view your route on a map or satellite image and even finds the wx based on your location & the time of the run.

I am still trying to figure out how to let others view it but so far no luck.
It also looks like you can only store 20 runs there unless you pay a monthly fee.

So far this week I have logged:
Mon. 8 miles in 1:03:17
Wed. 6 miles in 44:58

Tomorrow I will hit the track
and
Sat. will be 22 miles and my last "long" run before Disney.

Peace,
DNP

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (12/19/2007 10:24:41 PM)

30 min run at the treadmill at the gym.

No garmin yet. Debating on it, but I don't think I need one at this point. Might upgrade my HRM since it's acting up again and I did want to get the slightly smaller "women's version". Of course I don't run outside a lot so a hrm and a Nike + will work for me since I am not competing and don't need the exact accuracy of a garmin.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (12/20/2007 5:49:10 PM)

I know...the Garmins look so cool...but it's probably my love of gadgets talking moreso than my need to track my runs via satellite. [8|] [8D]

Today is my off day and my right knee is sore on the inside. (I believe they call this "runner's knee.") It was a little bit sore after my run Monday, too, but it went away very quickly. My mileage is being increased slowly and I expect aches and pains along the way...so you guys give me some guidelines on when I know I need to change something and it isn't normal.

The only thing I would recommend, if you aren't already doing it, is taking a glucosamine supplement. I started doing that everyday and my knees feel better.

I attempted to break out of my mini rut today and do something in addition to running. Used some different muscles, so hopefully I'll be "good" sore tomorrow!

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (12/20/2007 6:34:59 PM)

I've had my garmin for aobut a year and a half. I love it!!! The GPS isn't perfect. I run the same routes so afterwhile you know what the distance is, and can adjust. For example, this morning I did my 2m route. THe garmin only gave me 1.75m. I upload to TrainingPeaks, so I adjusted the data there. The HR data is good,, too.

This morning I sat on the bike trainer for an hour. The garmin said I went 40ft. Like I said, gps isn't perfect! Then, quick change and a trot around the neighborhood. 2m in 16:14.

Today I've been reviewing Ian Thorpe's clips. Yep. Hitting the swimming hard this winter. Coach wants me to work on form. Hopefully by reviewing films of good swimmers, I'll get a feel of what I should be doing.

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (12/20/2007 9:54:08 PM)

I ordered a Polar F11 HRM (women's version), the garmin was close in price, but like I posted above, I do a lot of indoor exercise so I decided on the F11.

Oh they are rerunning the office "fun run" episode tonight, it was hilarious!

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (12/21/2007 5:20:49 PM)

Ugh...I just had a terrible run. In fact, it felt like the first time--I was out of breath in about a minute!!! I couldn't even finish two miles and I was getting a headache by the end of the first one. I'm wondering if I was dehydrated. I feel 100% better since I got home and downed a bottle of water. [:'(]

p31woman -> RE: The Running Thread (12/21/2007 5:30:10 PM)

Could be. Or maybe it had been too long since you'd eaten. Maybe a little juice pre-run would help next time.

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (12/21/2007 5:34:39 PM)

Or a banana a little bit before the run? I get that once in a while, monday's run was bad, I walked most of it, but Wednesday's was better. I don't think I got enough sleep on Sunday night.
