I am thinking Michael is at least Ben's man on the boat -- hadn't thought about his being the captain, but could be!
I can't believe Ben's story since he is all about manipulation and pushing people's buttons -- and especially since Harper the therapist said he was exactly where he wanted to be.
But then that makes us wonder what exactly Widmore's relation to the island is. My original thought was that he knew about it, maybe even was behind it, and that was why he had Desmond's sailing route so close to it, so he would get sucked in and kept away from Penny. But if he is only looking for it, he still may have had Desmond go near it and get sucked in because he knew Penny would do all she could to find it. and then he could follow her tracks to it.
Oh -- and when Juliet was touching the dead Goodwin and then touched her mouth, I thought Ewww! As a dr. she should know better.

One thing that struck me in this episode was what a great actor the guy who plays Ben is. He's done a great job at being a villain, but to see him with that excited school-boy crush when Juliet came to his house and he was getting the ham out of the oven, that was just sheer acting genius, I thought.

Wasn't Widmore involved with the original Dharma Initiative somehow? I'm thinking that he's after Ben for gassing the Dharma people.

Ben actually seemed normal in that scene. I never guessed that it might be Michael on the boat but that makes sense.

Michael Emerson is probably my favorite actor on this show just because the way he plays Ben is so multidimensional. Sometimes I'm tempted to dislike him because he seems so clearly villainous, but then he does something like last episode's dinner which makes him seem so human and vulnerable. I love trying to figure out whether he's a good guy or bad guy. I've read interviews with Emerson, and apparently he doesn't even know himself which his character is.

Exactly! "Vulnerable" is just the word that came to my mind. And that's what makes the show so much more interesting, when the characters are developed in such depth, and you really don't want to like him or feel sorry for him, but then with a scene like that ...

It was supposed to be 16. Because of the strike, the last 8 episodes have been "condensed" (the producers' word) into five. And yet they'll still soak people for $40 for the dvd's, and the poor saps will pay it.

so we just got this latest ep last night here, what I don't get is that Harper chick, was she real or a figment of their imagination? I forget what did happen to all of Ben's people. where are they? Why haven't they gone back to their homes?
I just can't believe that out of all these wonderful characters that only 6 survive...

She was real in the back story but when I first saw her talking to Juliet I thought she was a apparition of the black smoke.

Hubby taped tonight's episode and the tape stopped when Sun was at the cemetery. She had just told Jin that the baby was a girl. Was there anything after that?

seriously? I missed that too. I agree - I think it is staged. I was wondering if Sun's dad found him, he'd kill him...so, they are pretending that he died in the crash.
