O taste and see that the Lord is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! O fear the Lord, you His saints; for to those who fear Him there is no want. - Psalm 34:8-9 Further reading is Malachi chapter 3 ... God says you don't obey or trust Me, but if you will trust Me with your offerings, then I will bless you. Father, show me where I do not trust You enough. Show me if I do not handle my finances the way You would have me to and help me to get on track with the plan You have for me. Thank You for caring for me in every area of my life. Amen.

Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart. - Psalm 37:3-4 Further reading is Joshua chapters 1 through 5 ... preparation to enter the promised land. Father, please help our country to trust in You again. We need You now more than ever. Amen.

Cultivate faithfulness...I like that. I don't think I've ever noticed that in those verse before. So...how do you cultivate faithfulness?

quote:
So...how do you cultivate faithfulness? I guess the first question in answer to that would be, "How do we demonstrate faithfulness?" I believe the answer is "Through obedience." It is obedience to God that demonstrates our faith. And so, the way to cultivate faithfulness is by being obedient. But before we can be obedient, we need to know what God requires of us. So it seems to me that part of cultivating faithfulness would be pursuing a knowledge of God and pursuing God himself.

How do you cultivate faithfulness? Wow, Donna, that is a most excellent question!! He says to dwell in the land. So, how would I apply that to my life? Hmmm ... Well, for me, personally, it would be resting in Him. Letting Him hold me. Spending quiet time listening for His voice. He tells us to be still and know that He is God. As you know, these last few weeks I have done a whole lot of that. He has shown me how He had prepared my heart to deal with this death. He has shown me how He planted people in my life who have been through this before, and they are here to pray for me and to just be there if I need someone to talk to, to try and sort out all these emotions running through me. He has pointed to the lessons He has brought me through to strengthen me, that have helped me now in a way I would never have known if He hadn't shown a light on them. He has proved over and over again that He is faithful. That I can always trust in Him. That He indeed is my Rock!! I would venture to say that the cultivation is a little different for all of us, and with His guidance, He uses us to help support one another, and it's all part of His wonderful plan for His children. How about you?

I thought of the answer for me/us before I posted the question. LOL As usual, I first related it to my children...how do Brian and I teach them to be faithful? The word cultivating was what brought me there, I think, as I often view our raising of children similar to caring for tender young plants. For us...we cultivate faithfulness by living our lives in obedience to God, and also by serving faithfully in our church body. Our kids know that church is a major priority for us...the only time we miss is when we are sick, and then usually only one adult and whatever kid(s) are sick are the only ones that stay home. They see my husband and I make commitments to the church body and keep them, and they work along side us whenever feasible. They see us care for those who need help, whether it be meals or a car fixed. They see Daddy put his tithe in the offering plate even when times are hard. I hope they see, or will as they get older, faithfulness in action through us, and in turn know that God is faithful to us, far more faithful than we could ever be to Him. It is my hope that when they are older, they will see our faithfulness to each other also. It is obvious to all around us that my husband was not always faithful, but my prayer is that our kids see God's faithfulness to care for us once we turned to Him in repentance. May God's glory shine stronger through even our failures in life. quote:
it would be resting in Him. Letting Him hold me. Spending quiet time listening for His voice. He tells us to be still and know that He is God. A great answer! There are so many things we just cannot know this side of eternity, and the sooner we get that through our skulls and trust God to be God...the sooner we will have the abundant life we were created for, even on this earth. That submission thing is not easy though, even to a faithful, loving Daddy God...

Hi tlims! Thank you. I'm doing okay now ... my munchkin, still seems to not affect him. Not quite sure what to think about that. But I'm praying and asking God to prepare me for when he needs me. Guess that's all I can do for now.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear and will trust in the Lord. How blessed is the man who has made the Lord his trust, and has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood. - Psalm 40:3-4 Further reading is Isaiah chapters 43 and 44 ... God redeems His people; they sing a new song. Father, thank You for this day and every day that You give us. Help us to see all the things that You do so that we can give You praise. We have put our trust in You and called You our God. Reveal Yourself to us and keep us safe. Amen.

For my eyes are toward You, O God, the Lord; in You I take refuge; do not leave me defenseless. - Psalm 141:8 Father, I know deep in my soul that You are always there for me. I can always trust You and find refuge in You, and I thank You for that. Although there are times I feel defenseless, helpless to do anything in a given situation, at a complete and utter loss as to which way to turn, I also know that I need to keep my eyes open to see the light You have shone on my path. There are times it may seem dull, perhaps blocked by tears, but it is always there, Your arm is always outstretched, waiting patiently for me. Please help me to keep my eyes focused on You, knowing that You are always in control and You always have my best interests in Your heart. Amen.

It's been hot and humid ... monsoon season. We had a thunderstorm that woke me up the other night, which was super cool. I love listening to storms at night.

Good to see you, Sam! School next week already? Wow! Band is an awesome thing for boys to join. My boys loved it--though they didn't get the advanced help that the Munchkin is getting. What instrument is he going to play? It's so fun to watch our kids grow up, isn't it? I'm glad you have a good man in your life to give you encouragement. I'm sure that helps alot. What's your new workout routine? And I'm eager to hear more about your study of Acts. Sunday morning sermons have been focussed on Acts since the beginning of January. I think we're on chapter five. Fast movers, eh? Thanks for responding to my post so quickly!

I've listened to / read Acts twice so far this year (with other stuff mixed in), so this is my third time around. LOL I just so happen to be on chapter 5 today myself. Can you imagine lying to the Holy Spirit and dropping dead on the spot like Ananias and Sapphira? Wouldn't it have been really awesome to be alive in those days? The apostles performing miracles like that for everyone to see? Then I think ... the world filled with so many more people in so many more places now. And there are miracles around us all the time. They just aren't so dramatic. After all, we are believers, and we need to always have that hope that God is right there ready to perform a miracle. Do you remember that show Touched by an Angel? I remember one episode where she was in a bar and trying to give someone a miracle, but nobody was taking her up on it. She finally pulled the whole "angel routine" with the shining light down on her to get everyone's attention, telling them that God sent her to give one of them a miracle, doesn't one of them want a miracle? It took her going to that extent, and yet not a one of them wanted a miracle for themselves ... they were saying so-and-so could use one. It was a very enlightening episode in more ways than one. Anyway, the munchkin plays the trumpet. He has played it for the past two years, and I think he's pretty good. He told the instructor that his range was from this key to that key, and as the instructor went through the notes the munchkin repeated them. Then the instructor informed him that his range was much higher and much lower than he realized. Pretty cool. They have some basics to go through, such as he needs to learn to hold his hand a little differently, and he's learning his breathing techniques better so he can get clearer sound. I was really impressed tonight when he learned how to project the sound so it comes out louder and clearer. I know one day I will walk out to the living room and find him playing along to Louis Armstrong on the computer. I have bunches of his music.
