Phosy, Be careful what you wish for!

I have been a nurse (something I always wanted to be when I was growing up) for nearly 28 years. I cannot begin to tell you the holidays, birthdays and special occasions that I have missed because of work. Being a "public servant" of any type means that someone has to work holidays and such and you miss out on a lot. I'd kill (well, almost) to have a 9 - 5 desk job. Since I have a 2-year degree and probably won't go back to school since I'm OLD and FORGETFUL and my memory isn't what it once was, I'm kind of stuck in my current situation.

Hi y'all, or all y'all, or however I should be saying it... . I haven't posted in here in awhile, but have to say no wonder I like this thread and Lioness's... there are other Government type workers here !! I spose even some of you folks might just look a little askance at the fact that I work for a Social Service Department though... but that's ok, 'cause on many threads I feel like a two headed monster when anyone finds out I work for them... sigh... We really aren't so bad, heck, I haven't taken anyone's kids away for no darn reason at all in well, at least 5 minutes . Actually I don't even work in child protection and never have, thank you Lord !! I don't even carry a caseload at the moment, I'm in the administration area pushing papers and numbers around. That sounds a lot better than it really is, as I told Lioness one time- I am just a very small goober-cog in the big wheel of gooberment workers!!

I got here ... sometimes I wonder how I did get here?! But I took a test at my Mom's insistence, thought for sure I would not pass it high enough to do any good, since about 600 people took it- and low and behold I came out 3rd in the standings . And the rest is history, I guess.

I've worked for the county for 16 years now, but can't retire for at least another 7. However, I usually say I have the "rule of dead" now instead of the "rule of 90", since my divorce a few years ago. Man, I really do hope to go at 62. I guess it won't be so bad if I have to stay til 65, but I really hope not past that!

And that is my life as a government worker/public servant...

My mom's an RN too and I worked for a few years in healthcare and worked the holidays and such so I know. I even spent one Christmas competely alone (aside from seeing people at work) hours away from my family. It does stink, but then so does having to take time off work everytime I need to go to the doctor or make an appointment somewhere because so many offices are only open when you are working. There are upsides and downsides to every job.

When is Brian's expected discharge date? How much PT will he be doing? How close are you to your due date??? Do you have help for the baby and Brian when that comes??

We hope he will come home Friday. PT will be forever. LOL...not really, but right now there is no end in sight, so I hesitate to state a date. When he first comes home, we will have in-home PT. I am 4 weeks from my due date. We have lots of help for when the baby comes, I think. Nothing for sure, since we don't know the timing, but lots of people willing to help when the time comes.

And I am so not super anything. Except maybe super exhausted.

You believe correctly, Lioness.

Kerr, that's Cowgirl Smurfette, and she's lassoing someone something.

and speaking of Smurfs . . .

. . . HERE are my first 12 auctions.

. . . Whew . . . Finally!!!

I have about 16 more Smurf auctions to upload; and that is on my list for tomorrow (well, later today).

In the past few days, I have learned various and sundry things; and while the education was certainly very time-consuming, it will also be quite very useful for future auctions.

ePier vs. eBay . . . at the moment, I'm using eBay.
My seller's handle, btw, is white_rose_treasures

There's a neat aspect of eBay that I've decided to use . . . "Giving Works" is a function that allows sellers to donate a portion of their auction proceeds to a variety of charities.

Before I knew what the specific charities were, I had already decided to dedicate each toy auction in CS's memory . . . afterall, they were his toys.

When looking through the listing of charities, I found several that deal with suicide. I chose Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program.

I pray that Our Lord will bless these auctions that I will be having over the next few months, and I also pray that the proceeds that Yellow Ribbon will receive from these auctions will go far in preventing people from taking their lives and helping those who have lived through a loved one's suicide.

I would appreciate y'all's prayers regarding this as well . . . and please feel free to share my auctions with whomever you think might be interested.

And now, dear hard workers, I am going to take myself to bed (and will get caught up in this thread either tomorrow or the day after).
I'm very much enjoying reading y'all's posts.

oh, btw . . . My new siggy is a link to my most current post in the toy thread . . . and it pretty much says the same thing as this post here in Zooneyland says. Just an FYI, doncha know.

(Although for those who just love to click on links; go ahead . . . it will do ya good.)

Good night y'all,

I had to cruise through quite a few pages to find out what your big secret was. Being a Tour Director sounds like a lot of fun! But not nearly as much fun as floating in your trike over San Fransisco Bay.

On another note, Donna is my new hero. ((((Donna))))

I w*** for a large utility company as an "Instrumentation and Controls Technician". In other words, I'm a electronics jack-of-all-trades repairman. I install, test, troubleshoot, analyze and repair just about anything electronic/pneumatic/hydralic etc. including safety systems and complex process control equipment often using computers, programmable logic controllers and a variety data aquisition systems. Also I must be knowledgable in equipment ranging in age from current to as old as the 1950's. In addition, I also do water analysis testing and troubleshooting.

After graduating high school, I gave up a full ride to college to get married. Shortly thereafter I joined the navy as an Electronics Technician. Then I went on to complete Nuclear Power School and became a Reactor Operator. I served on the ICBM (Interc-Continental Ballistic Missile) submarine USS Francis Scott Key SSBN-657.

After serving for six years, I left the navy and accepted a positon at a commercial nuclear power plant. 15 years later it was time for a change in scenery and I accepted a transfer to a coal-fired power plant owned by the same company. I've been there for six years now.

We just celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary.

Hiya Sharon-Marie, to be honest with ya, I am not really sure what you mean by this question. Can you be more specific?

Here's a question . . . I'd like to hear about y'all's current jobs / callings / professions, etc.
What do you do all day?

Details; I want details!

Ok, the answer to this question can be found here: Your 'Job' Description

BTW Sharon-Marie, I received the magazine from winning the contest that you had about your new possible job career. Many thanks!

Good Morning, y'all!

Donna, Today is Friday! I pray that Brian's transition from the hospital to home will go very smoothly. I am praying for Our Lord's Covering over you, him and everyone else involved in getting him home and comfortable.

I'm also praying for you and Peanut; I've been keeping up in your encouragement thread and have read all your posts over there.

You are an amazing woman.
I very much agree, Christine!

Anyway, 36 years later, I'm still with the federal government, and next year I'll retire.
Got any plans for after you retire, Pam?

I believe Ms. Sharon-Marie would be appalled at all y'all and you're addiction to alarm clocks. Shame on you!!!

LOL!!!
I just simply cannot imagine having to wake up to an alarm clock every day (as you well know).

For those of y'all who don't know . . . years and years and years and YEARS ago (I think I was in my 20's, but that's a bit hazy now) . . . my very first "act of faith" was to ask Our Lord to wake me up in the morning . . . at some bizarre time (I've since forgotten the exact time, but it involved the minutes being intentionally not on a quarter hour mark; something like :38. It also involved an hour that was earlier than what I was accustomed to for waking up).

It was also before digital clocks; back then, the numbers on a clock radio flipped over to show a new number.

The next morning, just as I opened my eyes from waking up, the number flipped over to whatever it was I had specified.

I haven't used an alarm clock since. I will either sleep until I wake up; or, if I need to get up at a specific time, I will ask Our Lord to wake me up at that time . . . and in all these ensuing years since that time so many mornings ago, no matter when I need to wake up, I always wake up on time. There have even been times when I have misjudged the amount of time I would need, and Our Lord has woken me up earlier than what I asked . . . and I needed every bit of that time.

I absolutely love the bliss of not waking up to an alarm clock.

She's gonna be a tour director.

Not a tour guide.

She will direct you, but if you need guidance, you're on your own.
You got dat right, Counsellor.

Back in a minute; still catching up in here . . .
