Where are you planning on cruising

The destination is of no consequence to me whatsoever. I told my friend Debby that I wanted to just go out on the ocean for at least three weeks sometime after I retired, and that probably meant transatlantic. And I asked her if she'd like to come with me. We've been talking about it, and she'd like to visit the Greek islands. So that's probably what we'll do, sometime in 2010. Those are our plans so far.

Greece sounds nice, but like I said, my main destination is the ocean. I cruised before, but it's been 20 years, and as much as I loved Bermuda, I loved the journey more.

For about 14 years I did not use an alarm clock--then for some reason I was over-sleeping--so now I use an alarm.I am not sure why I now need help waking up unless it is because I have a job now that is ok but I'm not crazy about it. And I really liked my last job.

I am a design consultant/sales associate/clerical person at a furniture store.

When I was a kid I wanted to grow up to be Annie Oakley Then I wanted to be a gypsy on broadway .Then I thought i would be a motivational speaker/trainer. Now I think when I grow up I would like to be retired!

When you were growing up, what were some of the things you imagined you might do as an adult?

*When I was in third grade I wanted to be a paleantologist.
*When I was in 5th grade I wanted to be an author. My uncle told me, "If you want to write books, you need to start writing." So I wrote a couple childrens stories (some as school assignments, some not). I gave that up in middle school.
*When I got to HS I figured I'd be an engineer, like my dad. Mostly because I have an aptitude for it, not because I liked it (or knew much about it).
*Late in HS I jokingly told people I was gonna be a brain surgeon. that's when I decided to major in biology and go to med school. The med school never happened, but I did get a BS in biology and chemistry.

On the road? Just short trips, like to park the truck somewhere different. Maybe after the kids grow up....but he likely wouldn't let me drive. He's a much better driver, and the thought of me behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler (even for me) is scary.

I believe Ms. Sharon-Marie would be appalled at all y'all and you're addiction to alarm clocks. Shame on you!!!

LOL!!!
I just simply cannot imagine having to wake up to an alarm clock every day (as you well know).

For those of y'all who don't know . . . years and years and years and YEARS ago (I think I was in my 20's, but that's a bit hazy now) . . . my very first "act of faith" was to ask Our Lord to wake me up in the morning . . . at some bizarre time (I've since forgotten the exact time, but it involved the minutes being intentionally not on a quarter hour mark; something like :38. It also involved an hour that was earlier than what I was accustomed to for waking up).

It was also before digital clocks; back then, the numbers on a clock radio flipped over to show a new number.

The next morning, just as I opened my eyes from waking up, the number flipped over to whatever it was I had specified.

I haven't used an alarm clock since. I will either sleep until I wake up; or, if I need to get up at a specific time, I will ask Our Lord to wake me up at that time . . . and in all these ensuing years since that time so many mornings ago, no matter when I need to wake up, I always wake up on time. There have even been times when I have misjudged the amount of time I would need, and Our Lord has woken me up earlier than what I asked . . . and I needed every bit of that time.

I absolutely love the bliss of not waking up to an alarm clock.

Good Morning Sharon-Marie, now waking up when you want to without an alarm clock, you are blessed!

Hiya Sharon-Marie, to be honest with ya, I am not really sure what you mean by this question. Can you be more specific?
Mike, what I mean is, how did you get your current job?

Lets see, I got my current job after my old boss decided to merge his business with a good friend of his. I was at the old company 4 1/2 years before the merger. Its been a just over a year and a half since then.

I initially got the first job by a reference from a friend who was at the company that I was at just before that, which I got laid off from. And the rest is history I guess.

Lessee . . . My next question:

Now would you believe that at 8 years old I thought of becoming a ballet dancer? There used to be PDA's on TV between the cartoons that would promote professions that you didn't have to be a man or a girl to do. Ballet was one of them.

I thought that I would either be a singer or work at a radio station or record store. In my early teens I quickly discovered computers and thought that I would be a computer programmer for a living instead.

I'm not sure why I'm posting, other than to ramble and, as a consequence, amuse you. Or annoy you. It makes no difference which. I've always been obnoxious, so why not bring that aspect of myself to your thread? Aren't you honored? Of course, my college English professors (I majored in English, doncha know ) would be aghast to see me writing such an unstructured post! By the way, isn't "aghast" such a perfectly delightful word, Sharon Marie? I like using unexpected words. Though it can be jarring if unexpected words are used too often. But, because I was once diagnosed as retarded, I like showing off my vocabulary. But speaking of my exhibitionist tendencies, I should close this post. Hope you enjoyed my ramble!

Edited to correct punctuation...because I majored in English, and I was aghast at my mistake!

Hey Sharmar, I am the exact same way. I have NEVER used an alarm clock. No matter what time I need to get up, I do, almost to the minute. There have been maybe one or two times that I have overslept in all of these years.

Hey Mike. Even when I did have to be at the office early in the morning, I didn't use an alarm clock. I think they're an absolutely horrid way for a person to start their day.

And until recently, I would usually get up anywhere between 5:00-6:30 each morning.

But lately my system's been all out of whack, and I've been going to bed between 2-4 each morning and waking up between 9-10; twice this week (including today), I woke up at 11:30.

I'd much rather wake up at 5:00am; I feel that I'm cheating myself out of 6+ hours of daylight waking up so late in the day.

I have found that for me that's exactly what clutter is - a bondage. I think much better and am way more productive when my environment isn't cluttered. It's a good thing I'm a minimalist.

Bill; I had to do a double-take on this; I initially read it as you usually waking up sometime after you've arrived at work.

How did I get to be doing what I am now? Well, I'd just gone back to study. I was retraining to be a library technician. Study was really hard, and then I noticed that it got REALLY hard. I was having really bad problems concentrating etc. I'd had depression for a long time, but I noticed that it just got so much worse. I went to a new doctor, who went to our church. She took one look at me and sent me for tests. I knew I was overweight, but thought that that was just what was wrong. They found I had 2 massive ovarian cysts that were 1'x1'x1' each, plus a smaller one. We jokingly called the bigger cysts, "The twins". They weighed over 50lbs when they removed it. It was borderline malignant. Three months later, I had to have an ultrasound/sonogram for something else and the technician looked where she wasn't supposed to be looking and found I had more. That meant more surgery. No more cysts, but the depression is something that we're STILL trying to get sorted. In the meantime, I've had other health issues. On Tuesday, I see a rheumatologist about a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. I already see a rehabilitation physiologist who is treating me for fibromyalgia.

What did I want to be when I was growing up? All sorts of things. I wanted to work in a shop, (customer service). I wanted to be a writer. (I used to sit in bed on the weekends whilst my parents were still asleep and write and illustrate my own children's books). I wanted to be a journalist. I wanted to be a psychologist. (Now I've seen them, and I don't want their jobs). I wanted to be a singer. (I've sung with choirs). I wanted to be a wife. (Still waiting for that one). I'll have to try and remember the other things I wanted to be.

50 pounds? Each?!!! No wonder you felt bad. It is wonderful that you found a doctor who didn't just see an over weight woman but a person that was not well. I will be praying about the fibromyalgia--my brother had that and a good friend also suffers with it--so I know it is dibilitating. But it is very hard to diagnose. Most doctors just don't have the experience with it to properly test and treat it.

As for depression--maybe some of that comes from the health problems that wear you down. Whatever I will keep you on "the list"

Archaeology interested me to but I get really weird around bugs and when you dig in the dirt there are bugs. So unless I could be in on a dig with no bugs I guess it is a good thing I passed on it.

LOL!

I think I was a "born-natural" for a trike; I've never had any trouble with the corners . . . but then, I also turn very slowly with a wide arch (uhm, my trike; not me).

It's funny watching people test-ride my trike though. It's a good thing it's sturdy . . . seeing as how many times people have almost crashed it.

Nowhere to put my back basket that can hold $100 worth of groceries.

Ironically, I know that from experience . . . I usually only buy about $20-$30 worth of stuff at a time, but one day, I got a bit exuberant and, uhm, overbought. It took me about 10 minutes outside arranging and rearranging everything in the basket, but I finally got it all in there and nothing got broken, squished or otherwise damaged.

It was, however, quite a, uhm, workout pedaling that thing home.

{{{Trish}}} regarding the tumors, I know first-hand how scary that must have been for you.

It was in 2001 when I had my emergency hysterectomy and yours and my situation had a lot of similarities to it.

But the GOOD NEWS is that He was there with me, and he was there with you as well. AND! He's still right there with you and will see you through anything else that comes your way.

May Our Lord bless you abundantly.

Hi Sharon-Marie!

You must have had a productive day today...haven't seen you online much (if at all).

Don'tcha just miss her when she's not around?? I know I do. Tho, I haven't been online much today either. I still have one wall left to paint. But now I have all the supplies needed to paint it.
