toodaloo!

Now, if I can only still edit my OP to make the thread just for people who 'actually watch' the show then I would.

well, i have seen bits and pieces...but i always have to changed the channel from the screeching, or from watching simon make some vitriolic remark.

anyway, i'll get out of y'alls thread now.

i'll try really hard not to miss it....and if the worst person wins, then i probably voted for them.[sm=wave.gif][sm=yummy.gif]

which network is it on? and which nights? I can't seem to find it yet. Probably not missing much anyway...I usually can only stand so much of the auditions...but when the real competition starts I would like to follow it.

karlie -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/17/2008 4:23:04 PM)

It's on FOX on Tuesday nights

It's only been the last couple of seasons that I've watched the early auditions...even then, sometimes I have to look away because it's just too painful!

buckifn -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/17/2008 4:29:10 PM)

I think Mandisa was a good case in point of not always it is the one who sings best who gets the vote.

I really believe she was the best of the competition, but lost anyway.

Maybe AI needs better screening OUTSIDE the audition area before anyone is allowed in? Some of those last week were just downright scary!

ahha...FOX...that's one I don't know the station for...lol. Have to find it before next week I guess. (hubby lost the remote a few weeks ago...and there's a reason our tv was free...dumpster find in Germany....the buttons are finicky. You have to hold your tongue a certain way, push a certain corner on the button, but every button is different. You can be changing channels and all of a sudden that button switches to changing the volume...lol. It's weird...but it was FREE. Maybe I can talk hubby into givin gup his search and just getting another remote...lol)

I agree! I wish they would cut back on the drama just a little. I know part of their ratings in the beginning are people tuning in to see the weird/bad ones, but still...moderation, please!

jodavi -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/17/2008 4:40:46 PM)

I think Tueday night was a bad night. I wonder if they really had more bad auditions in Philly than the good ones. Last night seems like they had more better auditions. There were still some cuckoos but maybe there were more better auditions in Dallas.

karlie -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/17/2008 4:44:11 PM)

The bad singing auditions, I can handle better than the outrageous costumes and acts. Most in costumes know they aren't getting through...they are just looking for their 15 minutes.

I agree that these antics completely cheapen the talent search aspect of the show. But I think the producers are really trying to accomplish two things with this show. The auditions are supposed to be outrageous displays of comedy, and the Hollywood portion is supposed to be a singing competition.

I think there are some viewers who only watch either the 1st or 2nd portion of the show. I know several people IRL who claim they only watch the auditions because they are so funny, or people who say they only watch the real competition because they can't stand the auditions.

I commented the same to dh. Yes, it's important - to him - but I really don't want to know about his sex life or lack thereof. Really, people should learn to keep some things to themselves.

And the whole playing over and over again that girl who was swearing at Simon. Why glorify that kind of behaviour?

I thought it was ridiculous as well (and completely fake!), but it accomplished what she wanted. I live near Allentown PA, and she got a front page article out of it in the Allentown paper. It even said that agents had been contacting her! Wonder if that was for her legitimate ability to sing in a 70's cover band, or for her stellar "actressing"?[8|]

wareaglekd -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/18/2008 2:55:52 PM)

Yep, she did say she wanted to go into "actressing"! k

redeemedsaint -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/18/2008 6:46:49 PM)

Maybe we'll see her in some "B" movies. That guy who sang to Paula about stalking was pretty scary. To me, this season is not that great so far. No one really stands out, but who knows. it isn't over yet.

babbred -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/18/2008 6:58:39 PM)

I've been busy all this week, so this is my first chance to jump into the thread. Some thoughts.

1. AI is really going to have to improve after last season, but the producers have promised it will. I read an article in USA Today that said the producers and judges pretty much blamed last season on a lack of talent. Paula said offhand she couldn't remember the name of a top 12 contestant (although how could you forget Sanjaya?). Simon said that Jordin was "good, but let's face it, she's nothing to shoot fireworks off about." I have to confess that I laughed at that. I love Simon! [:D]

The producers said in the article that this season there would be a lot more talent, a lot fewer celeb "mentors," and more visits to the contestants' hometowns earlier in the show.

2. Auditioning. Last season TV Guide sent a reporter undercover to audition. In the stadium, contestants were herded four at a time into one of several tent booths on the field. There were two producers in the tent, and they looked and acted totally bored. Each contestant had about 10 seconds to sing part of their song, then one of the producers premptorily (?) dismissed them, without even discussing it with the other one. The reporter said that while waiting to go sing, she saw very few people come out with a golden ticket to the next round. And yes, the next round was held on a different day and in a different location.

3. How many more audition rounds will there be? I have to confess, watching all the losers is getting kind of boring. I'm from Dallas, so I watched the show for my hometown. [:)] However, I'd like to skip over the others and come back when they get to Hollywood.

4. I'm surprised nobody has commented on Ryan's remark about kissless guy. "Well, if he comes back next season, maybe he'll be more of a man and less of a boy." Just one more example of the world not understanding Christianity. [8|] However, I must say that I didn't really feel comfortable with this guy announcing his kissless state on national TV. That's the most interesting thing about you? [&:] I think he should have saved that for the woman he wants to marry.

NickDaddyo -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/18/2008 9:47:08 PM)

Go24 has the audition process down. Good job.

I know people who have tried out, and one who even made the Top 24. The early auditions absolutely pump the bad singers up. They see thousands of people get the boot, and yet they get invited back months later, all the while their egos are getting bigger and bigger during the wait... "I'm gonna make it, I'm gonna make it!"

Then, they meet Randy, Paula, and Simon and they quickly come crashing back to earth. Of course, with their egos bruised, they lash out at the judges, particularly Simon. It makes for great television.

By the way, Alexis ("Glitter Girl") admitted that she was faking her outburst. Not surprising.

Anyway, a few thoughts thus far:

- Kristy Lee Cook has the look of a winner. She's easily Top 24 material.
- Stalker Guy was funny. References from bathtubs to Columbo. Awesome.
- Jessica Brown, the former meth addict, was a nice story.
- Alaina Whitiker is good, but another Carrie Clone
- Brandon Greene, I've got 3 letters for you: TMI.
- Kady Malloy the Impersonator was nice, but too many Carrie wannabes are gonna start cancelled each other out.
- Colton Swann definitely has a winner's name. There's potential for sure.
- Farmer Drew could be a diamond in the rough.
- I'm surprised they didn't show more of Jason Castro (dreadlocked, guitar playing guy) on the Dallas episode. I've listened to his stuff on MySpace and have enjoyed it.

What do you think about that girl who just got married and her husband thought she's really good-- Barbie and Ken [:D]. I thought they were cute though.
The kissless guy- I can't recall anything that mentioned Christianity or it's his faith that made him choose that decision. I might have missed something. For all we know, he could be a mormon or a jehovah witness. But either way, I agree, I'm sure he's proud of it but it's a personal thing.

annieflowergirl -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/19/2008 12:32:31 AM)

The guy I know that is on the AI , since he was a little boy, anyway his mom told me he won't be on until Feb. Something about the songs he chose to sing, they still were working on getting the copywrites so they can let him be on the TV. I did find out that he was the room mate to the guy that wanted to be the governer of OK. And he said that he was a real nice quite guy. So my fingers are still crossed for him!!!

Very accurate, though in Philly most of the booths only had one judge. My friend said the judge was at least polite in telling everyone they did a good job, but wasn't what the show was looking for. I'll tell ya, it's pretty amazing to see close to 17,000 people streaming out the exit, one by one, and only see maybe 100-150 get "ticketed". Whenever someone in costume got a ticket, everyone boo'd! *L*

Where did you read that? The article in our local paper quoted her mom as saying she wished Alexis had a bit more "subdued", but it didn't quote Alexis as all.

gaylel1 -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/19/2008 10:26:39 AM)

Doncha know folks that these auditions equals high ratings for the show? Unfortunatly that is the case, but at the same time, this edition this week, AI ratings went down from last year.

Does that send a message that people get tired of the auditions?

Good point. I just assumed he was Christian since the courtship crowd makes a big deal about having no physical affection before marriage.
