Well I keep seeing that most people think that only the teeny boppers like David A. - well I am far from being a teeny bopper but I have to say the David A. has a wonderful voice. I watched AI on the DVR last night and I skipped ahead during David C. on his second song - didn't like it at all.
I really like David C. too - I think he is a great singer and probably has more stage presence that David A. - but as far as last night went it was David A. all the way.
It is too bad David C. didn't have a night like he has had in the past - he may have peaked in the competition too soon (I loved him on Dolly night).
I really can't call who will win - they both deserve to be where they are - musicaly they are both excellent singers. Just because you are a good singer won't necissarily make you a star - only time will tell.

And that's one of my problems with him. Can you really picture yourself sitting through an entire 14 song cd like that? Maybe if I were at the dentist's office. The guy can sing, no doubt about it. But he can't perform at all.

There should have been a t-shirt - Stamp Out Urban Yodeling on the front and Vote Cook on the back.

Archie was over-rated by the judges..he looks like a deer caught in the headlights when he is on stage.. and is limited in what he sings..

David C is a well rounded singer who will do well regardless of the vote. I admire him for saying why he didn't sing Billy Jean or a similiar song again...if he already proved he could master that song, why not take on a new challenge?

predictable safe choices usually equal boring outcomes.

Last night was not David C's night. David A did very well last night and ballads may be his thing, but he does connect with an audience when he sings them. I don't think David C made a smart choice of doing something original rather than do something he did before. We'll see tonight, but I did vote for David A.

David A.'s songwriter's song was one that I voted high on. It was better by the songwriter, but David did okay on it. I guess I must have missed something. Will there be a #1 song pick from this year's songwriter's or were the top 10 choices all that were offered?

For some reason, I think David C. was deliberately holding back. I think he's another Bo & does not want to take the prize. But, he still will have to deal w/ the same problems Bo did for a few years until he's able to do his own thing. Winner or not just doesn't seem to make much difference. It's only a big deal for the one night.

I saw an article (I think CNN) that said that producers what David C. to win because they say he will be more manageable. I highly doubt that. We can remember back regarding his comments to Simon how he rejected him. I thought I almost heard some of the same last night. He's not going to be as phony as Kelly Clarkson was regarding having his way. I think he will make it abundantly clear what he wants & if he doesn't get that, we will know about it. Daddy or no daddy, the industry has the last word, so if Archie wins, Dad will have to shut up.

DialIdol does have David C by a large margin. Tonight we'll see if text messaging wins out. kd

I thought David A did better, but I voted for David Cook. I like rock better than pop.

Randy mentioned something last night about David and I thought it'll be a great title for his CD- the many sides of David Cook. He can sing pretty much anything and as much as the judges did not care about Broadway night-- Music of the night and Billy Jean were my favorites.

David Cook would have had to be blind to not see how the judges were blatantly promoting Archuleta throughout the season. So I'm sure he won't be surprised when they announce that Archuleta is the winner. But come on, does anybody believe Randy when he says Archuleta is what the show is all about? I've come to the conclusion that what I'm hearing out of my tv is not the same as what they're hearing. Can't be.

Archie may have won the battle, but David Cook won the war.

If that's the truth, this may be the last season of AI I watch. If that's the truth, then why don't they choose 24 Archuletta clones in the Hollywood round?

Either way, they'll both probably get something so it really doesn't matter who wins.

Then they should stop calling it a talent search. Call it what they've made it, America's Most Popular Amateur Who Would Never Get A Record Deal On His Own.

Seriously...

apples vs oranges
opera vs rock
sci-fi vs drama

The David's are so very different it is hard to even put them in the same category.

IMO, it comes down to taste.

Do you like the rocker more or the ballard/popper more?

I choose rock.

Not that I don't think David A. is good within his own "zone", he's just not my taste in music.

I wondered if David C was holding back as well. Considering the comment he made at the beginning of the show about the competition being over.

However- I don't think he will have Bo's problems. Bo's situation was magnified by his serious health probelms.

David Cook isn't quite a rocker...I don't think any true "rocker" would be on a show like American Idol...

I think he's mostly a pop rock ballad guy. Most of his "rocking" performances weren't thought of as highly as his ballads. I won't list his entire song selection, but to name a few in order he sang them...

1. Innocent (ballad)
2. Always Be My Baby (ballad)
3. The Music of the Night (ballad)
4. I'm Alive/All I Really Need is You (one not a ballad, the other a ballad)
5. Hungry Like the Wolf/Baba O'Reilly (not ballads, but weren't received as well as the ballads...although he slowed The Who down enough to almost be a ballad)
6. This week was more ballads. Only had one choice though, but he chose a ballad.
7. And last night's show...more ballads! Granted, he chose two of them...one wasn't very good...the other was a ballad.

I think David C is good at putting a semi-alternative spin onto older songs, like Parton's "Little Sparrow" and the Who's "Baba O'Riley." He should have done more of that on "Hungry Like the Wolf."

One of his wrong choices was to pick so many semi-obscure songs that a lot of the audience wasn't familiar with (songs from Switchfoot, Collective Soul, and whoever did Innocent).

I would have suggested to David C for the finale that he do one song in the "performance" mode of Music of the Night, because when he did a straight ballad voice for a change on ALW night, he was really very good. That likely would have applied to the second song choice last night. His first choice was picked for him (U2) and while it might have been difficult to individualize that song, he should have tried. Maybe started out slower and more ballad-like and then cranked up. And for the third song, he should have picked one of the earlier songs that he knocked out of the ballbark.

If he had done that, he would have shown his creativity, met Archie on his own playing field (maybe not besting him, but showing he can play in that arena too), and showing his versatility, which Archie doesn't have.

At any rate, I've bought like 4 or 5 David Cook songs, one or two from Syesha, two from Carly, two from Michael Johns, and even gave in and bought a Jason one last night! But Archie's songs have no appeal for me. He's got a beautiful voice but everything is pretty much the same.

I know that Bo's health had a lot to do w/ it in the beginning, but even Bo will tell you he was not pleased w/ his 1st album. I believe going to Nashville is going to make a huge difference for him.

Considering that David C did not pick one of his previous songs, it seemed to me he was deliberately throwing the competition. Yes, the comment in the beginning probably had something to do w/ it too. He has been too constrained throughout the competition when it is obvious that he has many sides of him that were not tapped into in this competition. I absolutely loved his Broadway piece & knowing he had the background already insured me that he is quite versatile. He can do a great show & sell lots of tickets.

I just don't know what will happen to David A. Kind of caught in a bad place mostly due to his age. I think for him his future is in musicals, but he desperately needs a coach to help him w/ his shyness. He's not going to be able to act starting out. I just can't see him in mainstream music. The teens like him because of his looks, but his music is much older than his years. He can't be Disney because he doesn't sing that way. Maybe w/ a little help he can sing pop, but right now he's too raw.

So, what's happening w/ the finale? To be honest, I can't remember anyone of the goofballs from the beginning, so I can't guess who will be back for the laughs. What starts do ya'll want to see? k

I expect to see (and look forward to it) the guy who composed and sang, "You are my brother."
