I like the girl who sang when Ryan and Paula switched. She has a very good voice but seems very shy. And Simon....he's been really nice most of the time this season. He is smiling more than ever.

They weren't able to show Luke sing. All I saw for a few seconds at the end was him hugging his wife Laura! And of course he had his "golden ticket"

I just read this in Beliefnet today. Evidently, it's reprinted from a book entitled, Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul. It's about some girl named Kendall Estep who auditioned for AI back in 2005. She had grown up with Tourette's, and then suffered an accident that left her paralyzed. After a few months of rehab, she was able to audition. Her mother (who wrote the article) says that she made it to Hollywood but not the Top 24. However, now Kendall has recorded a CD with John Cougar Mellencamp's band and appeared on CMT's Music City Madness.

First of all, has anyone heard of this girl?

Second, does anyone find the idea of an entire book written for Idol fanactics and about Idol wannabees just a little creepy?

Here's the full story about Kendall.

Kendall's Story

Was she the one with half her face hidden becuase it was scarred, and sang the Janis Joplin song "piece of my heart" ?

I'm not sure if I'm liking the story segments with the people who are auditioning. It seems like 'trying to get the sympathy votes already. However, I did get weepy with that girl whose Dad past away 2 days before her audition and she sang 'how do I live without you'? It's got to be a very hard song to sing without getting away with the emotions.

Are you kidding???

He warbled. It sounded a bit like a demented magpie.

If nothing else she's got incredible control of her voice. These is no way I could sing a song like that which was dedicated to someone I'd lost just two days before.

I thought Josiah had a very interesting voice. I'm curious to see how he performs and what he can do with it. Plus, I'm a sucker to see someone go far who really needs a hand up!

I don't know. I thought Josiah's voice was 'forced'- it's like mimicking to me.

I think I'm more curious to see where it goes and what he can do. The way he sounded slightly British when he sang was curious to me too.

Yes, he was forcing some of it, but with the right song and the right training I think he could do pretty well. Plus his ambition could possibly carry him to the next level. At this point I think he does deserve a chance and see where it goes.

I missed the girl who sang a song for her dad who had recently passed away. Does anyone remember her name?

I rewatched it this morning because it was on at the same time as 'So You Think You Can Dance' last night and I missed quite a bit.

I still don't like Josiah's voice.

If you remember in the past, it's a whole new ballgame in Hollywood. Many of them are talked down too like the ones that didn't have a chance in their home town. Sometimes they pass through ones we are even surprised about (to Hollywood). I wonder if it's all about the numbers. They send people to Hollywood that shouldn't be there in the first place. kd

That sounds like that supposed "Dolly Parton soundalike" from last night ... she has no chance whatsoever!

I think she does have a chance if she's careful in her song choices and doesn't try to sing "bigger" than her voice.

Really? I thought she missed several notes (mostly in her first song). Plus her personality seemed really lacking ...

I thought she missed several notes too...definitely some flats in that first song. I bet she's out in the first couple of rounds.

She was terrible singing her first song. I was surprised that Paula and Randy heard anything decent in her voice. But, that first song was way bigger than her voice. When she came back and sang the Dolly Parton song she was good. Especially considering that she learned that song in a very short amount of time. If she learns from this experience to choose songs that showcase her voice she may do quite well.

I guess I get to play the role of curmudgeon this season. At least I'll be in good company with Simon.

Anyway, yesterday at work my boss and I were discussing Tuesday night. All of a sudden she burst out and said, "I didn't like that girl who auditioned just after her father died. That just seemed wrong." Feel free to jump on me, but I have to say I agreed with my boss. It just seemed a little tacky to hear the girl say that her father had just died. I mean, it's not like he had cancer so that you knew he was failing. According to the girl, his death was completely unexpected. I can't imagine anything more traumatic than suddenly learning one of my parents had died in a horrible accident. The last thing on my mind would be a singing competition. As I told my boss, what did she do? Rush from the audition to his funeral?

Unfortunately, I didn't quite like the homeless boy, either. I mean, it was very moving when he cried, but I just kept asking myself, "Why did he run away?" At the very beginning of that segment, they just gave some vague reason like he and his parents didn't get along, or something like that. I really wish I could hear his family's side of the story. If his parents are nasty, then fine. I feel sorry for the kid. If the parents are nice, though, and the kid just ran away because he didn't like them, then I don't have any respect for him.

And you know what else?...You just *know* the producers had him pull his little car up to the front doors just so they could get a shot of him driving off into the sunset...gag. I can't stand canned sentiment. It is not his fault, but the producers show such a low respect for the viewers intelligence.

And another thing...do you think the bad singers actually think they are good?? Even if they are self-deluded to begin with, don't you think they get the clue when they are lined up in the crazy train wreck line??

From what I heard on the radio about the girl who's Dad passed away, when she found out about her Dad passing away she was already to pack and leave and head back home but I guess her brothers and I believe her Mom wanted her to go through the audition and the family believed that would been her Dad's wish as well.

I think a few have serious delusional disorders. They are real and in the diagnostic manuals of the APA! The definition of Delusional Disorder, grandiose type, is "strong conviction of great talent or skill where none actually exists". That sums up a few of them for sure!!
