Thanks, Cinderella. I guess we'll find out. It's just there are not many jobs around here & we'll be moving 2 months after I'm unemployed....so that all figures in as well.....

Hello friends. Just checking in.

I want to thank everyone for their prayers regarding my employment situation.

Turns out that my position (along with the three others college wide) is being eliminated.

But God still is showing His provision and mercy. I will be staying on at the college in a different capacity and on another campus.

On the bright side:

1) I have a job

2) The new campus is closer to home, in my city of residence

3) I have a job

4) The job description sounds attainable for me to perform well

5) I have a job

Also, on the fifteenth.... my new job will require me to fly to Atlanta for a seminar. I'm looking forward to it. Three days and nights at the Marriott Atlanta Marquis in the bargain!

Whoo hoo!!!!

Again, thanks for the prayers. I just wanted to update you ladies.

J

What would you do?

My baby has to have surgery in about a month. I don't have enough of vacation days to cover the time I will be off with her. But we can't afford to do without the money either.

I've felt like I should be a SAHM since she was born. I never thought I would feel that way until I had her. I kept working do to we needed the money. Besides I carry the insurance for the family with my job.

Talk with your hubby and pray for wisdom.

I will pray that the Lord make the way straight.

Would your church family be able to smooth the gap between the time you need to take off and the return to work??

April,

You might be surprised with how well you can make it without that second income. I'm unemployed right now & we're able to pay our bills, etc. The only struggle we currently have is saving money for our upcoming move. With the cost of gas to get to & from work, clothing for work, lunches for work, childcare....it was eating the great majority of my paychecks. We won't be able to do as much traveling or eating out--but I am currently at home which negates the need to eat out (at least as frequently).

As far as the insurance...that would be tough. Does your husband's employer offer any insurance benefits or is he self-employed?

Hmmmm...as far as what to do....that's a toughie. Does your husband have any vacation time left? Almost immediately before I became unemployed I missed 2 weeks of work. That's right...2 weeks. I had surgery so I had to be out for a week. Then my father in law had a heart attack, followed by my husband's grandfather dying. God really blessed us throughout this time though & our needs were provided for in every way. We were still able to have our son's birthday party which went WAY over budget this last weekend.

You have to come to the conclusion as to what is going to be best for you and your family. Sometime earlier in the year I had went to a website where it assessed whether a family was REALLY better off with two incomes or if they could make it on the one income. I don't think this is the CALCULATOR I used; however, it should work for your family.

I'll keep you and your family in my prayers. Let us know how things turn out. I pray your baby's surgery goes smoothly!!

God bless

Is your company covered by FMLA? If so, you may not be guaranteed payment while you are out, but it could secure you job for when you return.

Daughter of faith, I'm not sure about my church because I haven't joined yet. But have been attending for over a year. Not sure if you have to be a member yet. But I'm going to check into it. Thanks that gives some hope.

My husbands job does offer insurance but it's with a really high deductible and I'm not sure about switching since we are using mine for the surgery. In the long run if I decided to be a stay at home mom if we had a lot saved up to help pay the deductible that insurance would probably be ok.

He only has about 2 wks or less. They don't get very many and he is needed there during this season. Thanks your words were really encouraging and I'll look into all you mentioned.

Laurain, Thanks I'm actually in the process of applying now. This gives me some hope that at least I can secure my job. I wonder can you work at another job while on FMLA at another. Maybe I could work a couple hours in the evening while my husband is home with her to supplement some income.

As far as our income it's kind of cut and dry. I pay this and he pays that. We don't have a lot of extra bills but a few things we can cut which wouldn't help a lot. But I hope I can be surprised by not having the income and maybe it will work on the one income while I'm out.

I feel less stressed about it now that I prayed and spoke to someone about it. Thanks guys. I'll keep you posted.

Peace, sister.

That's great that you feel better...have more peace on the issue now. That's how God works.

DH and I purchased this workbook for our family awhile back. It has a lot of good principles & while on the website I noticed that Crown Financial Ministries has a book for Young Married Couples that lays out a pretty good plan (at least it looked like from the table of contents...I haven't read it).

Praying for you & your family!!

God bless

Can you believe we'd fallen all the way back to the third page?!? What's wrong with us? You'd think we were busy or something!

Okay, I'm ressurecting our thread to share my experience with cooking ahead and freezing...

I'M LOVING IT!!! This weekend we really got it down. Work with a buddy! It so much less frustrating and boring if you have someone else with you. If you have kids, cook after they go to bed. We did this this past weekend and it literally took half the time. Gladware plastic baking dishes are a godsend. They freeze great, can be cooked in no problem and clean up well. We reuse them until they warp!

We're up to cooking two weeks at a time. Keep an inventory of what you have available in the freezer and plan your menu ahead of time. It's so easy to just look at the menu on the fridge and pull out the appropriate dish to thaw the night before.

Oh oh! Here is where we talked about that...I couldnt remember where. I made some make ahead meals last night actually! Terkiyaki Chicken (basically a chicken breast frozen in marinade). And Chicken Spaghetti, just the sauce part, it made a lot so I froze it in two portions. I'm really excited!

Kat, what items do you have on your menu? Just curious because this may be SO much easier for us...then I can cook LOTS and not have to worry about eating leftovers until I get tired of them. They can be frozen....especially once I get a deep-freeze...as space in the fridge freezer is a problem now.

Yeah girls, I'm interested in your ideas, too. I know I could freeze a lot of things and just don't think about it. I'm hoping to have a lot of stuff frozen for when the baby comes, but I'm not exactly sure when I'm going to have the time to start doing that. Our church doesn't have a meals ministry and is VERY small, so I'm not planning on any assistance, either.

Well I'm gonna jump on here. I really haven't read much so forgive me if I don't know what is going on with all of you ladies.

I am currently working for an Optometrist and while I enjoy working here (finishing up my third week was on mat leave) I hate having to work. It is super hard to leave my lil miss Mary. I miss her sooooo much.

We got a copy of The Everything Meals for a Month Book and have done a bunch of recipes from it. Our favorites so far are Swiss Meatballs, Mexican Pizza, Cheesy Enchiladas, Cheesy Chicken Manicotti, Stuffed Manicotti and a few others that have escaped my mind. We're also adapting some of our family favorites like lasagna and meatloaf. The family really seems to like having homecooked meals EVERY night with mom or I getting all stressed out.

Nicole, I'm feeling you on how hard it is to leave the little ones. Luke's two and Kenna's 13 months and it's still sooooo hard to leave them every morning. Luckily, I'm still their favorite. I know it's irrational, but I've always feared they would become more attached to or like my mom more because she keeps them 40 hours a week. I guess being the one to get up with them at night does count for something

Nicole, just jump on in. It's mostly a "chat" thread along with a bit of gripe, etc. So you'll fit right in It's hard working full-time, plus parenting, being a wife, and being the housekeeper. Thankfully my DH pitches in a bit.

I hear you there, Kat, on being afraid your child would like his g-ma more. In my case it was a daycare provider/preschool teachers. Hasn't ever really seemed to happen...although he has had good attachments to them. He *almost* always wants to come home with me (unless he's too busy playing) and I'm not too hurt by that. LOL Now he's at home with me this summer and loving it!! But misses his preschool friends. At least he gets to see kids at church on Sunday! And before long he'll be seeing kids 6 kids a week (mid-August when school starts back up).

Hmmm....those foods sound SO yummy. Does the book include specifics about nutritional values? I'm dieting and so I really need to keep an eye on what I eat. Basically I'm trying to keep good carbs in while eliminating BAD carbs. The food SHOULD be low in sodium (not a requirement, but it may be as DH probably should be watching his intake due to heart problems with both sides of his family). Also, low saturated foods are good as it's the saturated fat that is bad for you.

Trying to think of anything else......and drawing blanks. Hmm....glad we revived the thread ladies.

WELCOME!!! Just jump right on in. We won't bite

I hear you on having a TON of job titles...that's what I am. By school year, I am a teacher...you should really hear the job titles then...."substitute mom"..."nurse"..."referee"..."etc."...hmm...sounds similar to regular working mom titles. LOL

That book doesn't. But anytime I run into a recipe that doesn't give nutritionals I head over to www.sparkrecipes.com. They have a GREAT recipe builder that's a life saver for me. It also allows me to customize what we cook. Mom and I just can't follow a recipe exactly. We always change up something!

Last night I put two more meals in the freezer!! Two pans of cheese and Italian sausage manicotti!! Anyone have any idea how long all these meals will be good in there? I dont want to start using them yet, but probably too early for "after baby comes" meals isnt it? (Baby due Oct 17).

I would say that's probably too early (at least for a meal that has pasta in it). You could possibly get away with freezing say meatloaf (I think those are good for 3 to 6 months). Hmmm...now you have me wondering food life in the freezer....
