Janeil quickly pushed the doors closed and quickly walked to the cockpit. "Tis, get us out of here," Janeil said on the intercom. Night Raven rumbled to life as maneuvering thrusters came on-line. The spooling of the engines could be heard as the engines ignited, hurtling the ship out of the docking bay. Janeil entered the cockpit as Tis pulled the ship away from the station. "You said you'd give us the coordinates of where you need to go. Where is it?" He asked Yari, strapping himself into the pilot's seat and fastening his harness. "We'll need to jump like right now to 'get lost'." Tisme added. "If whoever's chasing you, it wouldn't take them long to figure out you took a ship and left somewhere." "

Well thought Thom, so much for that job. he shrugged, it had beena stupid idea anyway, working for grendell again would have ended up a wash out. he started to walk around, this was the greatest space port in the verse something would turn up. ******** Thea watched Aiden reacted to the garden that had been created over the course of three generations. "It is truly the most beautiful place I have ever been in" he said. "thought you would think so," she said after he sat down on a bench. "it was my grandfather's idea, this way you never run out of oxigen." she paused as she looked around some of the plants, "i think there is one in here somewhere fromyour home planet, I think it was a gift or something." a holographic image came on in the garden, human and female in apprence. her clothing was the space uniform of the old rigeim, her hair short and black. over her left eye was a strange tattoo, another simble of the old regeim. "catain there is a strange man who has asked promistion to board." "did he say what his name was?" thea asked the holographic image. "conan, he says he is a passanger." the image answered. "he can enter, please bring him up here." thea ordered.the hologram went off. the Screen near the voice box which conan had anounced his presents came on showing the holografic image that had been in the garden, "promission to board has been granted." the door opened.

Aiden winced slightly at the mention of Conan's name and the vegetation around him rustled furtively. His attention drifted and in spite of himself he found himself reaching out in search of familiarity. Something from his planet…hmm, would it be a tree, shrub or vine? The vegetation on his home world was hardy and held limited intelligence. It was well known that the clan leader who cared well for the surrounding land could rely on it to warn him of intruders and offer protection and shelter. Sure enough he felt the subtle awareness; apparently it had been aware of him as soon as he had entered the room. Bush, the thought slid sinuously through his mind, me bush. Bush, bush…bush…bush…D a l a i n t h. The last thought was drawn out and hesitant and despite himself Aiden felt surprise curl through him. He twisted on his seat to look behind them his focus narrowing as he searched for the bush. Dark green leaves with golden veins visible on the tender shrubbery and thin almost bone white branches caught his gaze. The bush trembled as it felt his scrutiny and then rolled towards him, its movement was graceful and Aiden blinked in surprise as he recognized it. It was a baby Serantha bush. Already the tips of its bone white branches were sharp enough to stab through flesh and the hardening timber would soon rival stone in its durability. It's roots were barely visible and held in the center of the leaves and branches the tendrils of thread like hair darkened with soil and tangled together to form what could be mistaken as a heart. It made barely a rustle as it advanced the leaves still tender at its young age and not yet hardened into the scythe like sharpness that would develope with growth. The whole bush seemed to flow around itself branches bending and twining as they provided the support the plant needed to roll and slither across the ground The leaves covered the skeleton like structure and yet held off the ground much like a young woman would hold her skirt in one hand while crossing a stream. Its shape constantly shifted and held no definite form, one moment resembling a ball of gold laced greenery and the next appearing almost insect like then flattening and elongating like a serpent. Aiden's nostrils flared in surprise as the bush stabbed two miniscule yet eerily sharp branches into the ground and drew itself up in front of him, the leaves flattened forming a solid green and gold covering as the structure of it twisted into a cylinder. Serantha bushes were deadly and had caused the death of many a Bysen child, he had never heard of one connecting with a Bysen and could only assume the loneliness the bush was exuding was the reason. Serantha bushes were grove plants you never ran across just one there was always an entire thicket of them twined together and they could subside on meat as well as the nutrients they gleaned from the soil and he had heard tales of the warriors launching campaigns to stop the plants from preying on the animals the villagers hunted for food. At a young age the Serantha bushes subsisted off of only soil but when they started hardening that's when they started preying on live animals. He shook his head the clarity and personality radiating from the plant stunning him, he had thought the tales of the malevolent glee and pleasure the plants exuded when they hunted was fictitious and yet. He could feel the intelligence of the bush and he knew that it had deliberately hidden from him until now to make sure he wasn't a threat, he felt admiration seep through him despite his sudden unease. Dalai n t h…the thought was more concise this time and he blinked realizing that the soft surety and feeling of life that accompanied the words meant that Dalainth was the plant's name. "Dalainth?" he said cautiously out loud and the plant seemed to tremble slightly at the same time as he was flooded with loneliness and desires foreign to him. From the jumbled sensations he realized the plant wanted to bond with him, it wanted to connect to him as it would with others of its kind and he shook his head in disbelief. His heart shivered in response as the thought back to the whispered tales his clan had spoken on storm darkened nights about the days when plants had carried their own names and everything was connected so that no speech was needed. He had never heard a plant's thoughts or felt such strong sense of self as he did with this one, nor had he ever heard a plant's true name. It was said that if one knew the true name of a plant they wielded control over its every instinct and action. His eyes roved over the strange bush before him as he asked Thea "this was a gift?" More like an assassins attempt to kill someone but he kept that thought to himself. Doubtless she had never seen it animated like this before because it was intelligent enough to shield its true nature from anything it considered a threat or unknown.

"this was a gift?"Arden asked. thea was so startled by the bush that had now come to life before her eyes that she almost didn't hear him. She had never belived the old spacer's tales of places where the vegitation took on life of it's own. now here in her grandfather's garden was a plant which moved on it's own were ever it wanted to go. thea shook her head, "yeah, someone gave it to my grandfather, I think it had to do with protecting a whore house called heart of Gold from a bunch of people who wanted to kill them all for something or other, on a moon." thea paused, "At least that's what i think it was."

The soft pink lights illuminated a wide, stainless steel desk, barely hinting at the powerful silhouette of none other than Kurt Grendall. He steepled his fingers, listening with a bored expression that topped his last outburst. “But Chel, darling, that isn’t what I sent you to do, now is it?” His voice rumbled with the hint of disaster to come. “I sent you to recruit Thom…and old friend of mine. And this is what you come to tell me? You couldn’t do it? Couldn’t, or wouldn’t, love?” With painstaking emphasis, he unfolded his tall frame from the confines of the desk and sighed. “You know…I can’t accept this kind of…thing, from you. You’re my best girl…so far.” He cracked his knuckles. “It would be a real pain to straighten you out…all over again. So what you’re going to do, is get back down there and find Thom. I want him working under me, before I see your face again. Is that clear and nice enough for you?” Soft-blue smoke snaked out from his clenched fists, wrapping around the communication bauble. With a hiss, it dissolved into nothingness, prompting another weary sigh. “All is lost when minions can no longer function without one dictating their every move.” He mumbled to himself and scowled at the reflection on the desk. One fist slammed down onto the table, bending it into a warbled mess. The blue smoke swirled furiously around him, repairing the ruined table in his wake as he swept from the room. “Bother you, Marius.” He muttered. The blue smoke tinged gray.

“T-t-then j-just go.” Yari chattered. “G-g-go!” She clutched at the seat restraints, her hands were trembling so badly, she didn’t dare let go. The pain was finally beginning to subside and she felt her head throb as the ship began its course. Anywhere but here is good! The thought haunted her as the essence of safety curled through her tired body. She needed to sleep now…now before she was hungry again, before she would have to do her duty. Her hands ached and she finally let go of the restraints to hold them to her mouth. Sucking on the first knuckle, her eyelids drooped and closed. Dreamland claimed her as necessity took over.

"Hmm," Aiden said thoughtfully as he let his mind merge with Dalainth, not really paying attention as the bushes awareness seeped into his own. Almost at once he became aware of the queer hunger the bush was experiencing, almost a craving for the soil and yet no matter how many minerals it sucked out of the ground there was something missing. It needed live prey and soon, it didn't understand what it needed yet and the harsh hunger pangs hadn't really taken hold of it, but when they did. Aiden shivered as its strange consciousness skimmed off his thoughts and with a clarity that stunned him voiced its own. "Food...soil…food…not soil?" Suddenly as if a puzzle had been put together and the last missing piece sorted out it fanned its leaves outward. The silver veins glimmered faintly as they picked up the electricity in the air and then the pulsing of the two heartbeats in front of it and the strange currents of the alien bloodstreams. Something akin to ecstasy gripped the plant and Aiden felt his eyes widen as it focused on Thea, its leaves trembling the thought forming in his mind gleeful "Not soil…food…better than soil." It twisted, still unfamiliar with hunting, unsure of what to do, but Aiden knew that it wouldn't take long for it to figure it out. Immediately the bush latched onto his thought and what could almost be labeled as frustration fanned through his mind. "You hunter…how hunt?" it demanded, branches rustling restlessly. Aiden laughed in spite of himself at the petulant tone in the thought before he responded out loud "A hunter only hunts enemies, not friends Dalainth, Thea is a friend not an enemy. I will teach you how to hunt later. The first lesson of a hunter is patience." The plant seemed to consider his words until finally the thought came "Thea not plant, like you, Thea different…Thea food?!" An image of a long forgotten grove of Serantha bushes invaded his mind the security and peace that flooded his mind from the plant not him, "Same, friend…different enemy?" Aiden furrowed his brow, floored by the plants logic and rather uneasy with the thought that if he were at home he would be considered enemy too. The bush picked up on his thought and rustled but voiced no thought, waiting for his response. How to explain the concept of friend or ally, he thought to himself, despite differences, he and Thea had not fought, yet. He really knew next to nothing about Thea, unlike home where clans grew up in close proximity of each other. In fact most of the Bysen culture revolved around that very sentiment, the unknown or different was the enemy while the known was accepted. He had noted the differences as soon as he arrived at the space port, so many different and strange beings all working, talking, and interacting together. It was mind boggling and he had been in deep thought ever since he had arrived. Obviously if he wanted to survive he was going to have to adapt. "Adapt…change…bush different, not connect to other bush…connect to you." Aiden nodded in silent acknowledgement. Yes, obviously Dalainth understood the idea of adapting for survival; he had made Aiden an ally instead of an enemy. The same as Aiden had done with Thea. "You…connect with Thea?" the thought came tentatively as if it was struggling to understand. Aiden nodded again, he hadn't connected mind to mind as he had with Dalainth but he had connected, interacted and he needed Thea as an ally. The bush seemed content with that answer and settled down to the ground its roots stabbing deep as the center lowered. For now it would wait, like Aiden said, because Thea was…friend.
