I just figured that most first babies engage pretty early I did, too!! I was fully expecting for June Bug to be engaged by now! Ah well, at least I'm not the only one!! I haven't been able to reach my cervix for I don't know how long. Even if I squat, I cannot feel it, so maybe that's what it is!

I have an appt with our potential mw on friday, here at the house. Isn't that just weird? I have support from my mom and a good friend of mine. I am asking about three people to be in prayer for this labor and birth from now and when I call them that I'm in labor. I just feel better knowing I have prayer support. I'll let ya know how the meeting goes. This isn't for sure, yet, but it looks like this is the direction we will go. Pray for us.

Even though I'm having a homebirth, the midwife will likely come to my house only once before the birth. That'll be at my 37 week appt!

My friends that have delivered at home have only met their midwife in person once before the birth. Their midwives have all come from PA though...at least 2.5 hours away.

My actual midwife for three of my births came from Tennessee, so I didn't see her much before the birth, but her assistant saw me either at her home or mine each month.

I see my mw in the midwifery office until 36 weeks, and then all appointments are at the house (plus, at the 36 week appt, they bring the birthing kit so it is here 'just in case') Being in Ontario, the midwives aren't allowed to have an actual birthing centre ... it's either your home or the hospital (because the gov't pays for it)

I am so excited about this. I wonder if my bp will be even lower because I'm so at ease at home. One question: Most of the books I am reading have pictures of women in labor. Just about all of them are stark naked! I realize some women are comfortable like that, but me, I could never relax knowing everything was exposed. I gotta have at least a short shirt on. I dunno, it's just me. Here's my question, anyone else go blue jay style? or planning to?

Here's my question, anyone else go blue jay style? or planning to? *grins* I love that expression, Kathryn!! Depending on how hot it is in the house, I'll probably be mostly naked! I'm thinking of going out to the local thrift store and buying some long t-shirts (t-shirt nightgowns?) in case I want to be partially covered so that access to my bottom portion will still be available . I think, though, that I'll probably be in my birthday suit for most of the time - especially since I'm hoping to have a pool! Lily - isn't it interesting how the induction talk starts when you actually hit your due date? I'm sure many people are quite anxious to evict their little tenant, but since there is absolutely NO medical reason why you would do it that early (and plenty of medical reasons NOT to induce labour), it never ceases to amaze me that it's brought forward as an option so early!!! (Okay Kim, step off soap box ) I'm glad that your doctor is willing to wait it out with you. Our 'community standard' is induction at 41w + 5d in order to get baby out by 42 weeks, since (apparently - I haven't quite researched this one yet!) the chances of stillbirth increase significantly after 42 weeks. I'm still not sure (due to the fact that I haven't done my research yet!) whether or not we'd go for induction at 41 + 5 or decide on another strategy (ie. NSTs, BPPs, etc.) until labour starts naturally.

This mw has a pool and I think, for the first time in my life I'll have to buy a bikini top or a tankini. Something like that. Or just maybe get one of hubby's t-shirts wet.

I vote get the t-shirt wet and have a stack handy for if you're in/out of the water. If you're in and then get out, the tankini might be too chilly and stripping it on/off between contrax might not be too fun, whereas taking off a wet t-shirt, drying quick, and putting on another might be easier. Mmm ... I have to yet order my pool ... I'm sooooo looking forward to it, though!

Kathryn, do you not have a sports bra? You could just wear that into the pool.

What a great idea Ryanne! I have an old white one that is stretchy enough to pull up for afterwards when I want to nurse. Thank you for that!! I am excited too, however, trying not to get that way, yet too much. We still gotta meet with her and see if we all click. So pray to that end!! Because our other option is a hospital and hospitals and I DO NOT click at all. The last time I was in one I wasn't even a patient and I almost passed out. I just don't do well. I think it goes back to when I was 2 and got stitches all over my head from multiple dog bites. They gave me no anesthesia. I still have nightmares about it.

Ok, we met with the homebirth midwife and I think this is it. She is on the same page as we are on so many things. Diet, exercise, how birth should be handled. It's wonderful. And, here's the clincher, she's a christian. Her biz card says In His Hands Midwifery. She prays during the labor and says that sometimes the Holy Spirit will lead her to do this or that, or will make her aware of a potential problem. I love it. When I asked her about Andrew praying for me during the labor, she says, Please do, I would love it if you would. So barring any words from the holy spirit not to go with her, I think we will call her on monday and set up an appt. We will cancel our appt at the current practice, which means no u/s. But we don't like how that tech does them anyway. We've already had three. All for unneeded reasons. It looks like we are going to have a homebirth! I'm so excited!!
