My mind always seems to be constantly thinking, and last week I thought I was all out of She Says questions, however it appears that I am on a roll again!

Anyway, the title says it all, were you a tomboy or girlie girl while growing up? That is were you more prone to hang out with the boys, play sports, climb trees, etc? Or did you more stay in and play with dolls instead? Inquiring minds wanna know!

I think we've had this question before but it is good to revisit.

I was a tomboy playing in the sand box building cities with the guys with our matchbox cars. My sister and I loved to build forts, too.

Oh, I was always a tomboy for sure!! My family still laughs about it. I would play with matchbox cars, watch the same TV shows as the guys in the neighborhood, drive gocarts and minibikes, and even climb trees. We played a lot of softball, baseball, football, kickball, and sometimes basketball. We rode bikes a lot, too. I almost always beat the boys!! Oh, and I've got a few scars on my knees still from all the rambunctiousness. [:D] Sometimes I wish we could go back to those days. *sigh* [:)]

I just wanted to add that I loved to bake and do some girlie things. These days, there is only a little of that tomboy left - I love getting my nails done, and going shopping (though not quite as much as my girlie girlfriends [:D]).

I was in the center, playing with both naturaly and i just could express myself, my imagination, me, playing or not...and i was very imaginative for sure.

But family dinamics in place in my family's and having an older brother since I understood things I knew that whatever I would go outside my parents eyes etc my brother would be around, and look after me, as he sure did as many other brothers around too. He did play himself and observe me while i play with boys, his friends etc he was so cool at that time looked so older and grown up ..he is just 3 years older! LOL I love my brother and he does loves me and took serious hid responsabilities as today he is a great lovind Dad himself.

I for sure always knew deep I was a girl and enjoy that, whatever i was doing and many earlier memories is me and my brother glued together and later on he around. [:D] [sm=hug.gif]

I most definitely grew up a tomboy. I remember I was burying GI Joes in the mud one day, when my neighbor came over to show me her gloves from finishing school. She told me all about what they had done, and I was like "Why would you wanna do that?" She told me her mom thinks I'm a tomboy and that finishing school would be good for someone like me. Needless to say, I did not go.

That said though - growing up the only girl in my family besides my mom - I still was able to be mommy's girl too. I'd ask her to do my makeup and curl my hair sometimes.

So I guess I'm a tomboy who likes to dress up sometimes - but never because someone told me to.

I was about 75% tomboy and the rest girlie girl.

For instance: I had a kitchen chemistry kit that made perfume.

I love it! I didn't know they made such a thing? I was always being asked NOT to look at the tap water with my microscope, because my mother would rather not know ...

Love2play -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/12/2008 7:40:15 PM)

I was DEFINENTLY a tomboy
I played sports, especially soccer with the guys and boys
I had more guy friends than girlfriends and guys picked me over their guy friends when it came to picking team mates! haha
However, I did play with barbies once every while with my sister, but I preferred getting rough with the guys!![;)]
but slowly, I grew out of the tomboy phase, but I still aint a girly girl like my girlfriends [:D]

Hazel2 -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/12/2008 8:59:40 PM)

Humble, I was a non girly girl tom boy. I loved best to read and play with my dolls but I seemed to end up outside a lot playing with the boys in the ... dirt [:o]. Once I even played in the mud ... it was the last day before the summer ended and I decided to do something crazy. I was covered in mud. It was awful and I will probably not tell my own children that story in case they find it inspiring. My mom was completely unmoved and didn't scold me at all. Maybe she understood my plight about school and all.

On the girl side of things, I had an extensive child's tea set and spent lots of time organizing and reorganizing my room. As I got older, I gravitated a little too heavily toward makeup and crimping irons (remember those?). But while I was living at home, I always always had a horse and rode almost every day. I was a bit of an addict about it, actually. I'd head out to get my horse in the early morning and spend hours grooming, then longing, then out for a ride I trained my horses to do all kinds of neat things like respond to verbal commands, sidestep, and go anywhere I insisted. I lost all of that when I moved out on my own to go to college. [&o] One day, when I have time and energy, I want to buy another horse and start riding again.

I think I was a blend of the two. I liked My Little Pony, but I could play in the dirt with the best of them. [8D]

I did enjoy the fact that I could either wear dresses or pants, whereas boys were stuck with only pants. I'd hate to be in a dresses only family though; nothing beats a comfy pair of jeans!

Ha ha - me AND my brothers played with My Little Ponies a bit :) Somehow it was more excusable than Barbie. Besides, Barbie didn't fit in the GI Joe Jeep.

Well, I was raised as an only child, and constantly did stuff with my dad, so I was very much a tomboy in that respect. I helped change oil, fixed fences, groomed horses, etc. I played with dolls, too. But I didn't play with other kids much...usually played by myself. I spent much more time around adults that with other kids.

sunluvingirl -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/12/2008 10:57:12 PM)

Definitely not a tomboy!!! My sis was the tomboy, always out running with the boys. Guess I was the girlie!!

BugLady -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/13/2008 12:03:44 AM)

While growing up? I'm still growing up. I expect to be growing up the rest of my life too, kwim?

I suppose I've been more of a tomboy. I had big brothers to compete with, ya know? I've never really thought of myself as a girlie girl. Sounds like a silly term to me. I know how to behave like a proper lady and all, but I only do that when absolutely necessary. [;)]

pk07 -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/13/2008 12:09:23 AM)

I was a tomboy. I'd climb trees, play with legos, and race my matchbox cars. And I hated wearing dresses.

But then I started liking pink. I'll still get in the middle of a ball game with my guy buds, but I'm really a girly girl now.

sunshine4God -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/13/2008 12:53:10 AM)

I was and still am mostly a girly girl.I have a purple butterfly theme room and as a little girl my favorite toys ever were dolls, barbies, carebears, and Strawberry Shortcake. I have a little brother though and also loved climbing trees with him, watching Ninja turtles, and playing with matchbox cars. I also love superheros like spiderman, supergirl, etc. I guess you could say I'm 90% girly girl, but like some guys stuff too.

conrack50 -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/13/2008 7:33:11 AM)

I was a tomboy, grew up under the hood of my brother's car helping him work on it.

Wow sounds like most of us gals grew up as tomboys lol

moon_mouse -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/13/2008 5:50:12 PM)

Neither. I was more of a sci-fi geek.

shemaromans -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/13/2008 10:47:04 PM)

Both. Some examples: I took ballet lessons, played teacher, and enjoyed dressing up. At the same time, I rowed our johnboat, played army, skinned my knees, and loved getting dirty.

Above_All -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/14/2008 3:23:05 AM)

I was in between I think.

_Cinderella_ -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/14/2008 5:08:16 AM)

mostly girly

car2ner -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/14/2008 6:06:33 AM)

LOoks like alot of women who like to post on computerized forums and a tom boyish tendency. I wonder how that compares with no computer savvy women?

Yea I was like that too I was a mix of both...I loved playing in trees, fishing, and racing, But I also took dance.

When a child is really young...they love play with anything they can get their hands on...I taught a 4year old sunday school class and after we were done with our lesson we would color and the girls would love to play with some the matchbox cars...They just loved toys lol

elastic -> RE: Were You A Tomboy or Girlie Girl While Growing Up? (1/14/2008 1:30:25 PM)

I was a tomboy growing up, and to this day i still get along better with men than women. i cannot relate to girly girls most of the time. we just have nothing in common.
