Of course! Well, sort of, anyway. As much as possible.

ORIGINAL: stampinlady If it's ok to celebrate Christmas because the "church" ok'd it then should we also follow all the other traditions as well? I personally don't agree with the celebration of Christmas because of who "christianized" it. Are you talking about the angels or the shepherds? Luke 2 8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. 15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

He tried, but what can I say? I'm addicted! Actually, since she was a home birth, I was able to update people right from my home computer as things progressed and posted my birth story not too long afterwards. It was fun.

If it's wrong to have a tree in the house, one should not have a ficus tree, nor any other house plant. If it's wrong to allow your friends to admire a tree(not that I ever ask that), don't show them the pretty flowers in your garden, your new car, or the dress you made last week. the verse says what? to take a tree(which one) and decorate it in silver and gold quote:
This is a far cry from celebrating the birth of Christ! At Thanksgiving, we give thanks to God for our many blessings just as we do the other days of the year. At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Christ just as the angels and shepherds did. Where in the bible should we celebrate Xmas? How come the early Church people did not do it. thnksgiving is the holiday for when the Natives gave corn & other foods to Europeans and then were slaughtered, we give thanks for that! i asked another Christian about the hoidays, she said we are taking holidays......HUH? where in the bible does it say to take holidays from heathens. It says do not do as the heathens I say we lost the taking, if we have put some of their ways in our holidays.

I'm 56 years old and have traveled to South America, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean (including Israel & Egypt), the UK, Germany, and Denmark, to name a few places. In that time, I've never seen a living soul, Christian or otherwise, worship a tree, especially a Christmas tree. If you have, please tell us about it. Now, heathens? I've seen a few idols carved out from trees for worship. Know what? Not a single one would pass as a Christmas tree. None.

ORIGINAL: tracydolls where in the bible does it say to take holidays from heathens. Do you enjoy singing old hymns? Did you know that many, many of them were put to music using secular melodies, some even came from pubs & beer halls. Life is going to be a series of shocks for you if you are going to abandon all celebration of God that may have been touched by humans that had not met the Savior. How many heathen do you know that truly celebrate the incarnation of God the Son? I'd venture to guess none. We are not celebrating a heathen holiday, we're sanctifying a day that darkness once governed by celebrating the greatest gift ever given by God to human beings of all races and nations and both genders. Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection give us the right to reclaim any stronghold the enemy controls. Why on earth should we willingly give a day, a week, or a month over to the enemy while we hide in fear????

The verse is talking about carving an idol out of a tree and decorating it in gold and silver for worship. It does not use the word "idol' Here is a verse that does. 1Co 10:19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? 1Co 10:20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. 1Co 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. 1Co 10:22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? My interpertation of this verse is this you cannot do both. Have pagan/heathen mixed with Christianity. I think when we lie to our kids and say Santa Claus is coming to town, we are asking them not to think about Jesus, though eventually we get to that. This is what it looks like to me - a jolly fat man named Santa Claus(devil) will brings gifts and rides a sleigh w/ 8 reindeer , rudolph the rednose is the leader, he has elves(demons) that make your gifts in a factory in the North Pole(hell), we are also celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ who was born on December 25(which so happens to be the same day a false god named mithisas was born). so let's get our tree(idol) up now Nov. 25.(asap) Wonder what Jim next door is doing for decorations this year, last year he won our block club contest. But I beat him for best Halloween! We then proceed to put up a tree, that the Bible says Jer 10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. Jer 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. Jer 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. I tend to take a verse saying do not do ie. do not kill, do not steal, etc. Just like they are written. Do not do or learn not. We learn it, teach, revel in it. We spend lots of money on it! Remeber the commercial from Target , cute kid in pj's staring at tree , to me that is a form of worship.. whenever we will not even consider giving it up, worship what would it hurt you if you did not put up a tree this year 2008... Instead you talked to your Children about who Jesus really was. Instead of a man that was born on false date that gets in the sled with Santa and gives us presents. Who He really was! you light candles, Read the story of Him. When you get to the part of gift giving, you give your children gifts. Explain Hanukkukk, read the books of the Bible that Hannukkukk include. Look at maps of Jerusalem, go to www.aish.com Look at the Wailing Wall of the Temple. you explain we don't know the exact date, the truth! Would that be a sin?

But I beat him for best Halloween! Wow, no wonder you don't want to celebrate Christmas. Here is how I see it....St. Nicholas was probably a kind and compasionate christian man who would be highly embarrassed by today's image of Santa Claus. I would not call Santa Claus the devil but he is closer to an idol than any Christmas tree. And yet, the idea of giving to other selflessly is honorable, and that is part of the Santa image, too. Elves are demons? Nah, just blue collar workers. North Pole is Hell? That is a new one to me. I do have a pet peeve, too many folks confuse the white tail deer with reindeer... get it right people (grin). I have competed with decorating contests but often they just turn things tacky. But lights are so pretty at night.

Dearest Tracydolls, we never, ever, not even a single year taught either of our children that Santa had anything to do with Christmas or anything to with any gifts. Santa was just a cartoon character like Bugs Bunny. You see, my wife and I were Christians before we ever met in the 60's and Christmas has always been and always has been about celebrating the incarnation of God the Son, nothing less. I still disagree with your interpretation in the OT for reasons I've already given. Howsumever, if it'll make ya the slightest bit happy, we didn't put up a tree this past year, but it wasn't out of fear that we'd somehow be worshipping a tree or celebrating a pagan holiday. We didn't want the bother last year and a decorated tree doesn't make or break our celebration of the incarnation of God the Son.

ORIGINAL: tracydolls Explain Hanukkukk, read the books of the Bible that Hannukkukk include. Hanukah is only mentioned briefly in the NT and was not of any central purpose to Christianity. It was a wonderful story about the Jewish Temple, which no longer had any purpose after the incarnation, atoning death, burial, and resurrection of God the Son, Jesus Christ. For the life of me, I can't understand why Hanukah is of any importance to a Christian of Gentile heritage, since it focuses on an edifice and system that Jesus completed and supplanted. It has nothing to do with and is insignificant to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Christmas, when observed as a celebration of the Incarnation, is all about Jesus and the Gospel. I refuse to allow superstition and fear and bad interpretation of OT passages to rob me of celebrating any aspect of my Savior.

ORIGINAL: broken2live4him Happy Easter 2009! Sunday was my neice's birthday. We celebrated with decorations (some on the olive tree out front that is shaped in the form of a human head), cake, ice cream, presents, food. I even gave her a t-shirt and a plate with her beloved Tinkerbell on them. What can I do so that this now eight year old little girl will get on the right path and not be confused?

Saying that no Christian should celebrate Christmas because it's not mentioned in the Bible is a poor argument. There are lots of things not mentioned in the Bible that we do every day. I don't see the part in the Bible where it says now it's ok to wear clothing of different materials, but we do it. Also, does anyone here actually worship the way those in the early church did? They met with the primary purpose of taking the Lord's Supper, as an actual meal including wine. Does everyone do that? If not, the early church not doing Christmas is probably a poor argument too. I'm not saying you have to celebrate. Just don't yell at those who do. Let each person be convinced in his own mind.

My Bible says you cannot have both. By "we", I mean Christians. I don't know too many Christians who kill, steal or abort. I don't celebrate a pagan holiday. I celebrate the birth of my savior. The Bible also says to take everything for Christ. I do not celebrate anything pagan. I wish my sister a happy birthday just like pagans wish their sisters happy birthday. Does that make me a pagan? Not at all. Whatever I do, I am convinced it is right. According to Romans 14, that's what counts. Do not start with extreme examples about murder being alright if I am convinced. I am convinced of this in light of all of scripture. You are not. That is fine. I won't celebrate in front of you.

Sorry, but that was just a passingcomment and played no part in the narrative nor was there a commendation even implied. It has no significance to Christianity, Christ, or the Church. Nada. But you are welcome to celebrate that old Temple story. quote:
I think every Word of the Bible is significant. Okay, so we know that the feast occured in winter and Jesus happened to be at the Temple that year. Reading from verse 22 to the end of the chapter, I see of significance Jesus' assertion that He is deity AND that the folk at the Temple wanted stone Him.
