I'm sure I'm forgetting some but I just started like bass singers in the past few years. Before that, I preferred tenors (and still do in some groups).
I'm really glad someone else mentioned Tim Duncan. I was listening to an old Poet Voices CD on the way home from Church, and almost forgot how smooth, and deep he really is. Just don't care for Signature Sound much though!!!

Of course since I've been listening a while there are a lot of bass singers I really enjoy, George Younce, Tim Riley, Will Lane, Aaron McCune. I also enjoy Tracy Stuffle with the Perrys, wow that guy keeps getting better and better!

Well, the question isn't who is smoothest, or hits the lowest notes. The question is:"who is all time FAVORITE. In my mind, Big Chief will always be THE bass singer. Present fav is Eric Bennett.

I don't have my LP handy of the Weatherfords, but they had a guy who sang with them on an album that the picture was taken on the steps of a really cool looking building - always like his voice.
Those are just a few. I always wanted to sing bass but wound up singing like a girl instead.

That would be Bob Thacker. He sang with the Harvesters for many years, the Weatherfords for a few weeks, and the Rebels for a few days.
He was a good singer and did a wonderful job with recitations.

Although all those that have been mentioned are great, I totally agree with you, Daniel. George did an acapella rendition of "The Old Rugged Cross" at our church's Easter Service several years ago that was incredible.

Thanks for the name. I was having a brain cramp. I remember on the back of the LP it made reference to him having a bass voice that made most basses sound like a first tenor. Always thought that was funny.

It would be difficult to name just three. Two that I haven't seen mentioned is Jim (Pappy)Waites (Rebels), and Big John Hall. Active today, my favorites would be Eric Bennett, David Hester, and Ed O'neal

BTW, I agree that Jeff is a great bass singer. He is one of my favorites as well. Not in my top three but really close.

My favorite bass and probably the best of all time was London Parris, there are a few videos of London singing on YouTube, one with the Rebels, called "I Want To Get Closer", Jim Hamill is also singing lead in that video, and there is also one of London singing "Zion's Hill" with the Blackwood Brothers from the Porter Wagner show, I highly recommend that you check them out. Behind London I would say of past bass singers Noel Fox who sang with the Oak Ridge Boys, JD off course, and Aarmon Morales, and my favorite basses of today are Glenn Dustin, David Hester, Tim Duncan (who learned how to sing bass from London Parris), Eric Bennett, and also a lets not forget Gerald Williams from the Melody Boys Quartet, one of the finest and smoothest bass singers around, and who also I will be having at my church with the Dove Brothers in 2 weeks!

bfuson0384, you spoke of Tim Duncan learning from London. There was a young bass who was with the Anchormen years back named Jody Medford. He sang with the Kingsboys and also with Chosen Few at Silver Dollar City when they first started. He had the opportunity to learn from London as well, but turned it down to go sing with someone and kicked himself for it on a regular basis because shortly after that offer London passed away. London is my favorite followed closely by Tim Riley and George Younce.
BTW, anybody know what ever happened to Jody Medford. He sang bass with the Anchormen when they put out "It's a Wonderful Day" back when Biney English was with them. Just curious. I never heard a word about him after he left Chosen Few in the early 90s.
