What skating/gymnastics special? I missed it, and would like to see the re-airing, if they do so.

It was on NBC Saturday afternoon, so it might show up on MSNBC.

We went skating at the rink today. I have always liked skating but I could never do it long without stopping and taking my skates off because my feet would start hurting SOOOO bad. Last year I got a pair of good skates and got them sharpend and everything but I hadn't used them yet. I used them today for the first time and skated for almost an an hour and 30 min (with only a few small rests and 1 fall) and my feet hardly hurt at all! It seems rather childish to be excited about it but I was amazed! I was just starting to feel confident enough to try a cross over stroke (I don't know if thats the right name for it) when it was time to get off the ice. If anybody has any good advice for me I am all ears.

By the way, what do you think of this Johnny vs. Evan?

It's amazing what a good pair of skates can do! I hope you had a wonderful time!!

My advice: bend, bend, bend while holding your torso upright, straight, and firm. That's the secret behind all good skating.

I think w/ Johnny vs. Evan there is more to it than what we see on TV. I think their is a personal issue w/ them that we don't know about. The way they can just shun each other even w/ the cameras around - you can only wonder. kd

I would not have known about the special on NBC either if it weren't for one thing. On Tuesday night, I tape Biggest Loser while I watch AI. I watched the tape on Saturday morning. A commercial for it came on sometime during the show.

I watch little TV, and normally "boring" stuff like the History Channel, TLC, Classic Novels made into movies... so I never had a clue. Out Direct TV System of finding shows you would be interested in is hard. It's not difficult to work, but you have to go to a separate screen each day and do a search. And I'm not interested enough to do that each morning.

Anyhow, whatever has happened with Evan/Johnny has been brewing for years and has progressively gotten more hostile. I don't know where the root is, but it is probably personal. Our skating club hosted a major competition 2 years ago and all those skaters cheered each other on- even the ones from different clubs. It was obvious that those from the same club had a comradarie, but there was good will to those from different parts of the country. The catty fights you see in movies aren't the norm-- I'm not saying it doesn't happen some, but most of those kids aren't hostile like what's going on between Evan/Johnny.

I watch figure skating any chance I get-amateurs, pros,I watch it all. I have been a fan for many years.

I like the new points system and there are skaters on the amateur level that do have artistic programs. It can be done, it just takes more work.

Our women at Worlds should be interesting this year-especially with Kimmie Meissnier switching to Callagahn as her coach. He coached Todd Elderidge, Nicole Bobeck and Tara Lipinski.

Do you think Kimmie has a good chance at getting a medal?

Most of the skating doesn't really have anything to do with snow .

Where I live we hardly ever get any snow. Sometimes when I get up at 5am I wish there would be a foot or two of snow on the ground so I could go back to bed instead of go to work!

I didn't like it much until I started learning myself. That gave me an appreciation for the sport.

I don't think there is one thing in paticular that I like best about the sport and I can't even do it very good, but there is something very beautifull about someone almost becoming one with the ice.

I think so, too. But it took me realizing how hard it was to really appreciate the grace, strength, and athleticism skaters have. They made it look so easy that I couldn't give them proper credit.

Does anyone know when World's is scheduled? Will it be on NBC? I don't have cable, so I'd like to be prepared if I have to record it at someone else's house. kd

Here's a link for the schedule. I don't know what time zone that is for, so it may be best to check you local ESPN listings.

It says on the schedule "all times are Eastern".

Not from what I've seen this year. USFSA obviously thinks differently. She might have a chance next year depending on how well the coaching change works out. I'm just not sure 6 weeks is enough time to turn things around for Worlds.

Pbracing-I think baseball, football and golf are boring, but people like to watch those. To each his own.

6 weeks would only make a difference if Kimmie and her new coach are tuned into each other, it's good for Kimmie's morale, and if both are working hard. Odds are high that it won't make a noticeable difference in her performance. I don't think she has a chance, but I didn't think Mirai Nagasu had a chance her first year as a senior lady. That just shows how much I know.

Yes, but Mirai did not switch coaches 6 weeks before Nationals. That does make a difference.

I do think Kimmie works hard, but something is missing-I'm not sure what.

I heard somewhere her new coach said there is nothing wrong with her jumps that it is just a mental thing. I don't know who it was that said this so it's kinda hard to know how much to believe !

Oh my, tell me about it. I was teaching my kids a few tricks a couple of weeks ago, and I completely forgot that I'm not in the same shape I was when I was training! You don't think that even though you can still do things, you don't have the same strength and athleticism you used to!

The shoot the duck left me limping for days!
