I can't believe I've been missing the thread. I'm a figure skating nut! That is, as a fan, I don't know how to do it, although I have ice skated just for fun (you know, just around in a circle at the rink).

I have done many figure 8s on the ice, found that roller blading was a sinch after the ice, much the same really only on the ice there is more movement and more freedom.

I was doing it as a young adolescent but there were these people bullying me afterwards so didn't keep it up, guess it wouldn't take long to re-learn.

As with all sport, I like to do it, not to watch it much. I am quite ailienated in that attitude, however it is how I am.

Thats what I do, too! Do you watch any competitions? Such as nationals or worlds?

you don't enjoy the men? I love their strength and the length that they jump.

I like the women because they are more graceful and I think have better artistry.

I did, too, until I saw the junior & senior men in person and realized that their strength doesn't show as well on TV. It shocked me into having a different opinion. Since then, I've come to love the masculine grace that some of the men exhibit... but I know exactly what you mean because the women do have better artistry and feminine grace is more consistantly prevalent.

Isn't it funny how we all have different opinions? I find that fascinating.

It's very fascinating. I was dissapointed to hear that Evan had withdrawn from worlds. I guess it's for the best if he's hurt. At least Johnny is still there.

Well, I was very happy to see the Canadians won bronze in the pairs. Last year at Four Continents, his skate blade caught her on the cheek during a side by side camel spin and it was a pretty horrific injury. It took a while for them to deal with it, then they came back and lost the Canadian title. So bronze at worlds is excellent, because they are a wonderful team.

I'm excited to watch the men's this year, because our champion is new to Seniors and was fantastic at Nationals, I can't wait to see how he does.

My favorite disciplines are pairs and dance. I like singles skating too, but pairs and dance are so inescapably romantic. I especially like it when a pair is married to each other.

It kind of stinks that pairs often take place on a Sunday, when I don't watch it. Even if it's after church, we usually have company, or are company.

I watch that last year when his skate hit her face and now I can hardly watch that spin anymore. I always want to close my eyes! I am so happy for Johnny ! His first world medal! He is the only american that brought home a medal this year. Jeffery sure earned that gold medal! He was SOO happy!! And he did it WITHOUT the quad ! I feel kinda sorry for Daisuke though because he did so good all season. I don't think Joubert was very happy with silver.

The Americans didn't do so hot... although, I really respect their effort. They all had different issues that they overcame and made progress/ learned something that will be beneficial.

I missed the spin cut last year, but that team skated beautifully. ESPN (our sports channel that covered the Worlds) didn't show all the Canadian skaters. I wanted to see them all just to see who Lexie would have been rooting for!

And we had some stellar performances this year as well, with our pairs coming 3rd, our dance pair coming 2nd and Jeffrey coming 1st! That was amazing. He fell at Canadians and lost his national championship this year.

Talk about arrogance. In a press conference, while Jeff was there he was commenting about how Jeff didn't have a quad and he did and you can't win a title without a quad. But Jeff's performance was so stellar and his marks were so high that even if he attempted the quad and fell, he still would have won.

I love watching figure skating.

There is a TV Programme in the UK and I know it is aired in the USA (don't know if I can mention it's name though) and it is famous people who partner with professional skaters.

There have been some absolutely brilliant performances and I just love watching this.

That's Skating with the Stars. You can say a name of a TV show as long as it doesn't have a bad word, and as long as you aren't an official advertiser for it.

There was an American version (which ended up leading to a lot of controversy afterward when one of the celebrities and their partner hooked up), but I haven't seen the British version here (though I've been reading about it online.)

That was a wise move to discontinue that show after the controversy. I'm sure the ratings really hurt that show especially since the ones in the scandal wound up winning. There probably wasn't a viewer around the final though! I sure wasn't watching it! kd

Yeah. I saw Castile/Okolski at sectionals the year they won Nationals and when they are "on" they are incredible. With more maturity and consistancy they will be hard to beat. The Canadian pair team (Dube/Davison) that did so well reminded me of them.

I just saw a segment on TV yesterday about synchronized skating. Now, that was cool! I hope that becomes an olympic sport someday. Skating is so individual so often, it was neat to see people skating as a team.

It's already at a lot of colleges. I love syncro because it takes a lot of skill to do the same move in unison.
