GeorgiaNerd -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (4/19/2008 9:28:23 PM)

The Rockies are improving from a very shaky start. We beat the Pads in an insane 22 innings, and it took over 6 hours to play. Anyone know what the record for the longest game is in terms of innings?

joeshappywife -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (4/20/2008 9:55:03 PM)

OK, I need to do this now because I doubt I will be able to do it much later....
GGGGOOOOOO GIANTS!!!!!!

They won the series this weekend against the Cards, and the split the series against them last weekend. All I can say is....WOW BOWKER!!!

Tim Lincecum rocks!!!

Anyway...thanks for indulging me since I probably won't get to do this too often this year.

Oh yeah and .....hehehehe... the Dodgers were swept[sm=dance.gif][sm=dance.gif]

I'm pretty sure it's the 23 innings the Mets and Giants played back in the 60's. The longest I've seen time-wise was the 14 inning marathon the Mets played in Atlanta that ended at 4 am with the scheduled fireworks show.

Close, but not quite:

A couple of 25 inning gems, and even a 26 inning one.

You should read the book "The Iowa Baseball Confederacy" which is about a mythical game in the early 1900s that lasted over 2000 innings!

wp kinsella has written some awesome baseball stories ... he wrote the book shoeless joe which field of dreams was based on and tons of baseball short stories ... i wish he was still able to write :(

clag4christ -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (4/25/2008 3:47:34 PM)

I saw a game back in the mid/late 90's with the Angels that went 20 innings or something like that...I can't remember whom they were playing though...

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (4/26/2008 8:46:10 AM)

I feel like I'm trapped in a time warp. I'm seeing September of 2007 every time I watch a Mets game. Take an early lead, then turn it over to the bullpen after 6 innings so they can blow it. Add in an offense that's hitting near the Mendoza line with men in scoring position, an "all star" first baseman that can't seem to hit a baseball and doesn't seem to care, and a manager who is apparently blind to it all. I may have to become a Yankees fan! [sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (4/26/2008 11:15:26 AM)

let me be the first to welcome you to yankee universe ... that just sounds so corny ... what's up with delgado ... i've had to bench him in my fantasy league :( and he's one step away from being dropped

Though I'm not a Rangers fan...they do happen to be our local team...they're doing the same thing. They just stopped a 7 game losing streak yesterday with only their 3rd win at home since the season started. They stink! Icky-poo!!

there is another Barry that I am actually more frustrated with at the moment

I just heard he got moved to the bullpen....it's about time they did something with him.

How 'bout those Giants yesterday. [sm=icon_smile_boggled.gif][sm=icon_smile_faint.gif]

I tuned in during the third inning and saw the score and couldn't even watch the whole game.

joeshappywife -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (4/29/2008 3:57:34 PM)

At least the Giants were able to hold on last night and get Cain his much desereved first win.

Random -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (4/30/2008 5:42:41 AM)

Max Scherzer made his debut for the DBacks last night. He pitched in relief and threw 4.1 perfect innings, with 7 strikeouts. Hopefully they get him in the rotation!

Well the Dodgers are doing well. Swept the Rockies and beat the Marlins last night. They have a series against the Mets coming up this weekend.

DBacks announced today that he is joining the rotation -- Edgar Gonzalez is going to the bullpen.

Yep...my sweet hubby is so excited! I unfortunately have Johnny Cueto...who's *not* been lights out since his first stellar 10 strike out performance. I'm gonna keep him though, just in case he comes around. [:)]

maybe the extra rest they'll planning for him will help ... not sure if it's long term or just this once but if long term will really hurt your W and K numbers ... rookies: can't win with them usually ... i am excited because smoltz's injury will move him to the bullpen where i need some saves! i have starting pitching out my ears ...

Yeah...most rookie pitchers are pretty hit or miss when it comes down to it. I've got some good closers and holders for my team...pretty evenly balanced. But it's hard to compete when the person who's in first in my league has an ERA under 3! (*note* I was in first just over a week ago [;)])

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (5/4/2008 1:00:28 AM)

good point that is tough era. #1 team in my league does too but it won't stay there, he has some hot pitchers. he'll do well though. i spent way too much time prepping for the draft and predicting stats etc this year so it'll be fun to see how well things turn out for me.

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (5/5/2008 8:28:23 AM)

All right! 2 out of 3 from the D-backs! I'll take that. And Delgado finally looks like he might be coming around. Alou comes back and Delgado starts hitting, hmmm, coincidence? I don't think so. People were looking for him to be the leader in Alou's absence and maybe the pressure got to him.

Coulda been. What do you think about that pitching performance by Dan Haren yesterday? It was pretty good, eh?

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (5/5/2008 10:08:22 AM)

As a Mets fan, I wasn't too crazy about it. But keep in mind, striking out 7 Mets is no big deal. At least not so far this year.

LOL! Well I hear you there. Dan Haren is one of my favorite pitchers. [;)] Your Mets did play admirably yesterday. Johan pitched a great game as well! [:)]
