The baby shower is being catered at a fairly ritzy place in town, so I am actually looking forward to trying some tasty foods. Of course, I'll still watch my carbs and avoid cake/sweets .... so I'm hoping for some tasty proteins and veggies to choose from!

Hee hee hee ... I went searching in my drawers today and cheerfully discovered I don't even OWN any nylons anymore! (Can you tell I don't dress up now that I stay home?) Hmmm.... guess I need to get some before Saturday to wear with my nifty green dress.

I wonder how many calories I will burn in holding in my tummy for 3 hours!?!?!?

The more consciously you hold good posture, the more calories you will burn. You can also burn more by standing throughout the whole shower and making circuits around the room. I also saw on TV yesterday that hugging burns calories.

Thursday is here, and I learned my lesson Wednesday morning and will be staying OFF it for a few more days in the hopes that there will be something positive to report. What can I say? The risk with USWID (unoffocial sneaky weigh-in days) is seeing mysterious half-pound water weight gains at the most discouraging moments! Anyway, our much-heralded rain never arrived ... at least not during daytime biking hours ... so I managed to get in 16 miles of biking in total throughout the day. Thank goodness Thursday is my take-a-break-from-exercising day, though ... because I am tired.

Lunch Wednesday was egg white salad, cucumber, radishes, cottage cheese with salsa, and an Amy's organic vegetarian Shepherd's Pie! (It was cool and grey and LOOKED like rain ... and that just felt like rain food, ya know?) Dinner Wednesday was steamed spinach, cucumber, radishes, LOTS of green beans with melted cheese, a blueberry fiber cake, and southwestern grilled chicken. I did have few yummy extras on Wednesday (I figured I biked 16 miles and earned them) ... a very small fruit tart (about the size of a silver dollar) and two potato wedges from the grocery store deli ... and they were YUMMERZ.

I don't really have anything special planned for Thursday daytime ... I was thinking of snail-hunting in the garden, miscellaneous bush pruning, sweeping, checking on bird feeders and (of course) taking Minnie dog for a walk. (I don't get to go biking, so need to find other things to do!) I may also spend some time figuring out which shoes to wear with my GREEN DRESS on Saturday for the baby shower. And it's definitely feeling like a major laundry day ... rugs, towels, sheets, etc.

April 3 ... know what THAT means? One month until our cruise!!!!!!!!!

NUTRITION RESULTS FOR APRIL 2
CALORIES BURNED : 3300
CALORIES EATEN : 2100
CALORIE DEFICIT: 1200
GRAMS OF FIBER: 86
FAT PERCENTAGE: 13.9%
PROTEIN PERCENT: 43.3%
CARB PERCENTAGE: 42.8%
VEGGIE SERVINGS: 12 servings

EXERCISE RESULTS FOR APRIL 2
biked 16 miles around neighborhood

You are so consistent, Harvie! You are such an inspiration.

I haven't logged anything since being on vacation, but have been really good. I've had three squares of low sugar dark chocolate (70%, I believe.) All my other snacks have been either fruit or half a red bell pepper w/ 1 Tbsp hummus. I had a Cobb salad last night and a small ampount of left over homemade beef stroganoff for lunch. Tuesday, I had that same beef stroganoff w/ whole green beans for dinner and leftover homemade chili casserole. Monday, I had that casserole for dinner and had a taco for lunch at a restaurant. The casserole and stroganoff were both homemade, so it was all lean & whole wheat ingredients with fresh veggies (before I cooked them .) So, they weren't the diet busters that they may appear to be.

I also haven't exercised this week at all. I've been getting things back in order since vacation and feeling sinusy (between the rain and pollen) unless you count a few leg lifts I did yesterday . Today, I will probably volunteer at church, unless they don't need me. I won't have time for activity if that happens unless I can talk dh into spotting me for weight lifting in the evening. I'd like to get back to weight lifiting... I just can't seem to find the motovation!! Does anyone know where it is? Tomorrow, I have my ice skating lesson so will skate for 90+ minutes.

I made a pledge to stop drinking coffee and...thru God's grace and despite my passion to coffee, it worked out!!!

Although there is nothing wrong with coffee, I still wanted to give it up and replace it with Herb tea...something I, sadly stopped consuming regularly for a long period of time.

I feel more healthy, less bloated and thank you Lord with you all things are possible! I never thought that I could get over my addiction to coffee.

However, I do drink cocoa and I don't thing it makes me stressed or bloated like coffee.

But with God ALL things are possible!

PS: {{{Harvie}}}, I will keep your hubby in my daily prayers.

Now that's dedication! I have to have some sweetner in coffees, infusions, and teas. Stevia is the one I use- no calories and it's herbal. It's not approved by the FDA, but that's not a deciding factor to what I eat/drink.

I love tea ... we get all sorts of caffeine-free varieties .... I like having different ones to choose from. I really like cranberry, currently. And for cold tea, Green tea with citrus!

OOooo... dark chocolate is full of anti-oxidants!!!! (I always liked dark chocolate best!) To me, if you're going to have something sweet .... good dark chocolate is definitely one way to go! (Though I have a decided weakness for lemon tarts!)

(Thanks for the prayers!)

I'me generally a tea drinker (green, white, or black- skip oolong and jasmine) and don't like herbal infusions much... but occasionally, I find one that I just love. Peppermint (plain peppermint) is a favorite and Celestial Seasonings has a Blueberry Herbal that I love. I enjoy it mostly as "sun tea" iced in the summer, but it's godd hot, too. I don't normally like anything with rosehips, but that Blueberry is an exception.

I lifted weights last night for the first time in forever... and plan to skate as soon as I can take a shower and get to the rink. I'm looking forward to a salad for lunch. All that makes me feel so fresh.

ooo... blueberry tea!!!!

Happy Friday!!!

It's going to be 79 here today and partially cloudy ... definitely a day for bike riding! As soon as I managed to get fully dressed (ok, more dressed than I currently am) and the gardeners leave (so Minnie dog can go outside), my plan is to stick a load of laundry in and then get my bike riding exercise in! Thursday (yesterday) was my no-exercise day .... my wonderful DH suggested that I pick one day a week to give my body a break, and for the last 2 weeks in a row, that day has been Thursdays. This way, maybe we can go biking TOGETHER sometime over the weekend .... though this weekend he is working.

I started off just snipping off a few small branches here and there yesterday, then next thing I knew I had the BIG clippers out and was really pruning our front pear tree. Heh heh heh. I left an impressive mountain of leaves and branches for the gardeners to deal with this morning. I am sure they just sigh as they drive up every few Friday mornings or so to see what havoc I've wreaked in my yard for them to clean up! I must admit that is entirely WHY I prune on Thursday afternoons ... someone else will clean it up on Friday mornings!

Can I just take a moment to say that trying on shorts can be an exetremely distressing, discouraging, disheartening activity? OK, it can be fun, too ... but ..... eeeek! I was out shopping with a girlfriend yesterday afternoon since my wonderful DH said I could spend $100 on clothes for our cruise (May 3-10 to Alaska). Of course, I've already bought cruise clothes, so these were bonus clothes! Anyway, at one store I tried on three different sizes of the same pink bike shorts and decided -- finally -- that that style/brand/color was NEVER going to work for me, so I ultimately gave up there and settled on a pink and white striped tank top. (Yes, horizontal stripes, too ... I am such a rebel. It's not like those silly stripes will suddenly make people realize I'm fat. I'm fat whether I am in solids OR stripes, ya know?)

Anyway, we tried a different store, with MUCH better results. (And let me take a moment to point out that I wear shorts 10 months of the year here, so wearing shorts in an of itself is not new for me.) I found an adorable pair of denim shorts and a fun pair of longer, cotton, wrinkly-material orange shorts! (Yes, I wear bright orange .... I actually have an astonishing collection of bright orange clothes, to the great amusement of my wonderful DH who only once commented that I looked like a traffic cone.) I found two tank tops, too .... one plain white with some lace around the v-neck (it helps pale me look a bit more tan, well maybe "unpale" is a better term) .... plus a white one with orange trimming which will match both the new orange shorts as well as some orange striped shorts I already have.

My husband is madly in love with his new Weber gas grill. Seriously. He's like a kid with a brand new toy .... and he wants to try grilling EVERYTHING! We've had the grill for less than a week and he's already grilled steaks, pork chops, turkey sausage, and peppers ... all were delicious. As I was cutting hard-boiled eggs in half last night to remove the yolks, he picked one up and wondered if we could grill my hardboiled eggs! "No, dear, it's dark outside" was my only response. Sheesh. Why do I suddenly have visions of trying to clean oatmeal off the grill??? Anyway, he should be a happy camper since tonight he gets to grill ears of corn AND more pork chops.

And why does a 5.5 ounce lean pork chop have 300 calories in it? I think that those commercials -- years ago -- about Pork: The Other White Meat made me think that their calorie count was similar to chicken. But noooooo.... it's actually higher than sirloin steak! OK, so the price is a bit better ..... we got two 5.5 ounce lean organic pork chops for $3.17 ... but 300 calories still feels high, ya know? Oh well.... it fits into my dinner calorie budget and I just HAD to find something for him to grill!

My new bagels are here! My new bagels are here! My new bagels are here!!!! I was never so excited to see that cheerful brown UPS truck pull up out front!!! I rushed out to the curb and grabbed my big box o' bagels and rushed inside! As part of my dinner on Wednesday night, I lovingly halved, carefully toasted, and then carefully measured and spread two tablespoons of reduced fat Philadelphia chive n' onion cream cheese ... then topped both bagel halves with a few sprinkles of sundried tomato. Oh, YUMMMMM!!!! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! I haven't had a bagel in soooooo long ... it was chewy and multigrainy and oh, so satisfying!!!!!

The bagel in question is a "Perfect 10" multigrain bagel from Western Bagel ... and I ordered mine online (6 packages) at LINK. Unlike other bagels I've had, this one has three wonderful things going for it: (1) LOW CARB! (just 10 net carbs per bagel); (2) HIGH FIBER (9g of fiber per bagel); and (3) HIGH PROTEIN (a whopping 18g of protein per bagel!) All that with only 2g of fat and 15% of my daily iron ... not too shabby, huh!? I shared one bag with a girlfriend, popped the open bag in the fridge, and tucked the other 4 bags in the freezer .... yum yum yum yum yum! Oh, and they are just 140 calories each ... so with the 60 calories of cream cheese ... I can have a bagel n' shmear for just 200 calories ... WOOOO HOOO!!!!

I love bagel either. I have one bag in my freezer which I usually spread either tuna or pizza on it.

Enjoy!

Hello Girls!

I would love to join you all here to keep me going on our quest for a healthy family eating plan. Thanks Cov/Zip for the invite a while back, sorry it has taken me so long to come around!

My DH has requested that we follow the AbsDiet. Now, y'all have got to understand, the mere mention of "diet" makes me shutter and instantly crave a brownie. So, I dragged by feet a bit...but he brought the book home, and it actually isn't a diet at all, more of a health way to eat for life, so I am finally on board.

We will be eating 6 small meals/day which we semi started a few months ago, but I never seemed to get it right We went to the famers market this morning and then I rounded out at the grocery this afternoon. We are stocked with yummy fruits & veggies, lean meats & lowfat dairy. I sure wish I could bake my own delicious whole grain breads, but I am still challenged in that area, so I bought the best I could find at the bakery.

Harvie, my Dave LOVES his grill, too! I kinda love it myself...we plan on grilling most meals, infact. Have you ever grilled pineapple? It's wonderful! And you can drizzle it with dark chocolate and really feel decadant!

Looking forward to taking this journey to a more healthful lifestyle with you all!

Hey, Jen! I'm glad you decided to join us. I'd been noticing that you posts in the meal threads were only mentioning three meals and had been meaning to PM you about how you were sticking to your 6/day plan.

I grill a lot, too. It's so easy to do ahead, too. You can cook lots of meals at the same time and then eat them "leftover" in new ways. You know, if you grill peppers, onions, and chicken, you can have tacos, Greek flatbread sandwiches, salad, various soups, etc. Fruit is really good grilled.

I don't normally add stuff to grilled fruit (like chocolate or brown sugar,) but that does sound delicious. I try to limit my chocolate consumption to a square of low sugar dark chocolate and the occasional bang-up dessert when I'm out somewhere. If I tell myself that it's OK to have it drizzled over pineapple, I'll be eating chocolate all day every day. If I don't restrict myself, I can get into bad habits quickly.

BTW, one of the main uses of the word "diet" is to just mean "a habit of eating." It can be a healthy, lifelong habit. It doesn't just mean "an unhealthy fad that makes you feel jipped so you can't stay on it for very long." You have to look at the context to judge which way it is being used. I'm not familiar with the AbsDiet, but from what little you posted, it sounds like a very healthy way of looking at food.

I'm still bakery challenged, too. We don't eat many whole grains, but I've tried to make whole grain bread a lot and it just never turns out. I refuse to use a flour that isn't whole grain, and it's very frustrating... especially when homemade bread is supposed to be so delicious and yours just isn't.

I am thinking I am going to stop counting calories and just keep eating whole foods and exercising. I'm not getting anywhere with losing weight and am a bit discouraged (again.) I'm at the point of saying that I don't need the stress of trying to watch calories if it's not going to lead to weight loss. I can maintain with just whole foods. I only gain when I eat processed foods.

I don't count calories or even weigh myself that often. I don't care to start either. Have you ever heard of or done a First Place bible study?

First Place is biblically based weight loss program. I did 2 books with my old church, I found the teachings applicable to all of life, not just healthful eating. (It is a faily lightweight study, less than 30 mins/day 5 days and 2 days for reflections)

ps- I've never had 2 live convo's in 2 different threads with 1 person before, cool!

It's like double chatting, huh?

I'll look into that book next time I'm at a bookstore. IMO you can't have enought Bible study or nutritional info. Two of my fav things.
