I would wait for peanut butter, not just because of the allergy risk but because it can be a choking hazard. Gabby pretty much eats bits of whatever we have, she loves chicken and bean enchiladas(without cheese, the poor girl). I do try and watch how much salt she is getting, and then of course eggs, dairy, peanut butter, and soy. But other then that, we just let her have what she wants. She even had some curried chicken the other night

It's only the egg white, you could give her egg yolks. Personally we are just avoiding them all together.

if you are doing eggs then another good one is french toast (bread dipped in egg and cooked). if you make your own batter (store bought has too much sugar IMO!!) then you can do waffles or pancakes cut up into bites. You can easily add some pureed baby food for flavor (or pureed berries). crackers cereal peas carrots potatoes cut into small pieces melon (I use a melon baller to make small bites)

We have no food allergies in my family, and all my kids have eaten peanut butter (creamy only and only a tiny bit to avoid the choking thing), eggs, and everything else we eat by 9-10 months. We just cut it up tiny and if I can, I save rice or noodles out before I add sauce, but that's really for the mess factor. There are standard recommendations, then there are recommendations for those who do have allergy issues in their family. If you have no allergy issues in your family and you are comfortable doing it, she can probably eat whatever you eat, except for maybe hard to chew meats. I second Sarah's pizza cutter suggestion. I use mine to cut up everything.

The guide they gave me at the hospital solids class says these are some suggestions for 9-12 months: Egg yolk Toast Yogurt Soft Cheese (cottage cheese or ricotta) chicken, lamb, beef, pork, fish, egg yolk, tofu, legumes Chedder/Mozzarella may be grated or cut up small Crackers Pancakes/waffles Cheerios Soft pasta or rice Cooked carrot slices, broccoli, green beans, peas, sweet potatos, cauliflower, zucchini Kiwi, melon, mango, banana, peaches, pears, grapes (cut in quarters)

Chelsea, As long as the peanut butter is on toast/in a sandwich, it shouldn't be a choking hazard. Straight pb is pretty sticky and that makes it a hazard. If it is thinly spread, it is good -- it is also high fat and has protein, so that is good, too. You could probably do cheese/yogurt also. Rice, pasta, bread, bananas are good. Generally, as long as it is softer it should be okay.

Same here. I also figured that since I ate cashew nuts by the ton when I was pregnant, my babies were unlikely to have a nut allergy. Cheese omelettes, cut up into small bits, were also a favourite with my two (and easy to whip up quickly).

Has anyone else ever gone to a baby shower (or any other type of party) and left disappointed with the attitude of the person who received the gifts? Yes. But it wasn't an adult. It was a poorly raised 12 year old who threw a fit because we "only" spent $15 on her, getting her a gift we thought she would love. The next year, she got an empty card. Did you go to one with a poorly raised adult, Jae?

It does, but just let it go. It's her (I assume it's a her) problem, not yours. I'd decline any future gift-giving occasion invitations though, if you can, or if you're brave like me, give an empty card next time.

See, my thing with this is that having a food allergy makes you more susceptible to ALL the top allergens, not just the one which is known. Things like a family history of asthma, eczema, and skin reactions also increase your chances of allergies. It's a hard call to make. For us, knowing that allergies are on the rise we probably won't introduce things any earlier with the next baby. And really, "standard recommendations" are getting longer and longer because of the humongous rise in anaphylactic peanut and egg reactions.

In our case, Hannah is the one with food allergies (no one else in the family for the past three generations has them for anything). We know what her allergy came from (exposure to CS from a dr when she was a few weeks old and before her system was not mature enough to handle it). So our situation is a bit different....because it's not really something that would put my other kids at risk since we are not exposing them to things like she was exposed at that early age. (edited cause I can't spell today!!)

But, one thing I will say though is that you may think her attitude was one of ungratefulness when it was really she was nervous having all eyes on her. I know between bridal showers and the two baby showers I have had that I was always uncomfortable having everyone watching me so I am sure at times I probably looked ungrateful. I would have much rathered opened the gifts after everyone left because of this reason. Chelsea, regarding foods that are good I recommend the scrambled eggs too. I also do it omelet style and usually add in some shredded cheese, Hunter loves them. Grilled cheese is another one that I started feeding Hunter at that age. I always made sure the pieces were cut up small to avoid choking though.

She gobbled up 3/4 of the sandwich before I got back in the room from taking a child to the bathroom!!!!

It makes you want to never do it again. What sort of attitude was it? Was it that she didn't like the gift, was rude or dismissive to you, didn't seem grateful or ...... ?
