I know one American company that does a pretty good job of getting things right

Question is, do you know the company I'm thinking of?

Did I get the right one even though I went through Wikipedia?

Actually, I posted it just before Zippy did, but I messed up the link so I deleted the post.

This is true...

In the interests of fairness then, I declare a tie...

Now, I've given you 1 American company... keep going...

And on the subject of going... I have a certain lil kitty cat who is requesting my presence

TTFN!

Saturn the car company

but I'm sure that the cars are not 100% American...there must be something foreign in them or they wouldn't be American, right?

Did you watch Waking the Dead yesterday Manda? I was more hooked than usual and can't wait for tonight's episode.

Yes I did! Extremely gripping!! Thing is, I *have* to wait because Dave is working tonight, and will arrive home at 9.30pm. If I watch it, he will walk in in the middle of it, which would mean he'd have to go out again LOL. The added complication is Liverpool vs Chelsea, of which he could see the last 15-20 mins of when he comes in. So I will record Waking the Dead (which my daughter once thought was called Whacking the Dead, lol, so that's what we call it in our house!) and then watch it later tonight with Dave, probably when Jonathan gets in from Uni at midnight!!

I'm sure American parts are being shipped to their facilities all around the world, and the land on which the facilities have been built are probably similar to embassy land and officially American soil no matter where they are. Oh, and I'm sure that the workers in these facilities are American cities. They probably even get paid in American dollars. They wouldn't claim to be an American company if they weren't 100% right? That would be false advertising!!!

I've met very few Americans claim British heritage so I'm not sure if they'd describe us as cousins... though I can think of a few other terms they'd use

I'm impressed that you've waded through the 33 pages of this thread

That CAN claim British heritage, or that WOULD claim British heritage?

My mom is researching her family tree right now. She has given a whole lot of money to the GRO!

That would make me your half cousin LOL....my dad can't claim British heritage.

I have a collection 'half' relations ~ I rarely bother using the term (unless I'm trying to mess with people's heads )...

Sherwood is in England...

Scottish would count as British heritage, Ireland (Republic) wouldn't...

Britain is more than England...

Great Britain comprises England, Scotland and Wales. England and Scotland are both kingdoms (ruled by a king or queen) and Wales is a principality (ruled by a prince, hence Charles is the Prince of Wales)...

The United Kingdom includes Northern Ireland (which is where I was born, though my heritage is Scottish and Irish). The Republic of Ireland gained independance from the UK in the early 20's...

And yes, I did check some facts out!

thank you...I knew my understanding was not very clear. Listening to Bono doesn't really help.

What about the Queen - does she just rule England?

Not quite just England...
quote:

Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926)[1] is the Queen regnant of sixteen independent states and their overseas territories and dependencies. Though she holds each crown and title separately and equally, she is resident in and most directly involved with the United Kingdom, her oldest realm, over parts of whose territories her ancestors have reigned for more than a thousand years. She ascended the thrones of seven countries in February 1952 on the death of her father King George VI. (See Context below.)

In addition to the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II is also Queen of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, in each of which she is represented by a Governor-General. The 16 countries of which she is Queen are known as Commonwealth realms, and their combined population, including dependencies, is over 129 million.

I'm not sure that I've heard of all those places

Me! Me! I have! I used to collect stamps when I was a kid and used to notice the Queen's head on loads of countries' stamps.

LOL....my husband has one of the most Scottish names you will ever hear in your life! But it ends there.....

My great aunt (who was of British and Canadian ancestry) married a Scottish man and thought everything Scottish was the best thing in the world. When my mom told her Dh's name when we first started dating, she got really excited and said "that's a fine Scottish name, good for her." My mom then had to explain that he wasn't quite Scottish. My response?

"He's not Scottish but the people who owned his family were!" No one seemed to find the humour in that one
