Why? As ya'll are very well aware the American media treated her better than the Queen. So our view of her is probably very different from yours. Also she and I are the same age.

I'm not a big tennis fan, but watch the finals of the major matches when they are on. The Wimbledon semi-finals and finals are broadcast here live. It starts at 9am here on the east coast and with the rain delays it was over at 4:30pm here. That would be close to 9pm in the UK. Also it looked like the temprature was dropping because folks in the stands were wrapping themselves up.

It was one of the most exciting matches I've seen! Even my kids were interested in it and were cheering by the end. I don't know much about Nadal, but I was glad he won.

It was gone 9pm. And the temps have dropped this week ~ but we've also had gale force winds around so it feels colder.

Personally, I think she learnt how to play the press to her advantage. Hiding one minute and saying they were intruding then arranging for them to know where she would be so they could take pics.

It was interesting when Charles married Camilla because many branded him a villain for having had an affair with her through his marriage. I am not condoning adultery, but Diana was hailed as being pretty near perfect. But she had affairs too.

I went to a new church today and met a lady who was from Rugby. Her accent was so thick! I was surprised when she told me that she had been here for 47 years.
I met another lady from Scotland. She said she'd been here for about 15 years. Her accent wasn't as noticeable.
They both wanted to know what part of the south I came from. I haven't lived in the south in 34 years and I still haven't lost that South Carolina twang! lol!

Diana - I loved her (still do for all the good she did) but after I read The Diana Chronicles, and as I began to understand her world, my views changed.

Never read them and don't intend to. You triggered a memory of the latest trial into her death though. For many years the press said that the relationship between Diana and Prince Philip was very difficult. At the trial, letters between the two were produced and they seemed to give a far different aspect of their relationship.

Is that from the UK press? From what I remember they had a field day with her!

I know I wont get the quote exactly right but at her funeral her brother said something to the fact "we don't need to cannonize your memory".

I just think she was really in love with Charles but he did not love her. I think he cared for her but was not in love with her.

People think she was wonderful. The press have sad bad stuff about her, but IMO it's pretty limited ~ because of the way that people feel about her.

Apparently Diana had a huge crush on Charles from her school years. While most girls had pictures of pop stars etc, she had pictures of him on the wall. I wonder how much of her marrying him was that crush and how much was real love. I do agree with you that Charles did care for her ~ and I do also believe that in the years before she died they were able to put their animosity behind them.

It's not a book I would recommend. I picked it up because I thought it was a biography and I love reading biography's but it was pretty long and I just felt it was fairly sensational, just in the way it focused on her troubles rather than a rounded view of life for her. The author was trying to be in her head, which I think at this point, we need to remember her for the good that she did, and not try to analyze her actions or thoughts. Personal opinion of the book though.

I think everyone went way overboard on it at the time and after. I can well remember the fuss that was created when Diana was pregnant and one of the tabloids published a photo of her in a bikini while they were on a private holiday. I only hope that things aren't repeated when (if) William marries. They shouldn't hide behind palace walls, but it's not necessary for the world to know their every move either.

Snugs?[;)] Not sure, I know that my beans seem to have lasted longer this year than they did last year. Slugs and snails have got onto the plants ~ but sometimes this is because I created a 'bridge' for them so they could avoid touching the copper. I've found far more on the outside of the rings that on the inside though!

Oh, I have copper tape around my broad been and runner bean pots and they're thriving!

I think of the copper more of a deterrant than anything.
