Funny true story:
Years ago when youngest DD was almost 3, we were at a restaurant and she got pretty messy. I reached into my purse to get a baby wipe to clean her face.
She yelled out very loudly, "Don't use the butt wipe on my face!"[&:]
I wanted to just crawl under the table and hide.[:D]

ROFLOL!!!

That was my next question. [:D]

agapetos -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 8:50:40 PM)

LOL!

I had them when I was in the US and didn't think much of them then. I doubt my feelings will have altered any. My tastes have altered over the years and since I started eating better my taste has changed. There is something just plain [:'(] about some run-of-the-mill foods. Added to which, I can't help but consider the air miles.

Right now I have a thing about dark chocolate with orange peel. It's only 52%, which is low for me, but it's good[:D] Beats Cadbury's and hershey chocolate anyhow!

HisCovenant -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 8:57:13 PM)

I agree about the orange peels and dark chocolate and most sweet treats... but Oreo's are one food I restrict from my home because I abuse them. [:o]

Is it the Lindt one?

I do like Cadbury's sometimes, but only in small doses. I will have the odd Creme Egg (though I must confess I *adored* the Border Creme Eggs that Cadbury's did years ago, which were far superior IMO to the ordinary Creme Egg)

nicole6598 -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 8:58:08 PM)

Aga, wash your mouth out! Nothing is better than cadbury's [:D]

I am in south australia Aussie Mum

manda59 -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 8:59:23 PM)

I think I tried an Oreo once when I was in TX because my hostess was raving about them, and I found them way too sweet. [:'(]

I'm also aware that in the US Oreo is used by some as a slang derogatory term, right?

Nope, actually it's a Somerfield one.

There's plenty better and I'm boycotting them since they decided to close the factory near me because it was cheaper getting the chocolate made in Poland (or somewhere similar).

Where is similar to Poland then? lol

(will have to look out for the Somerfield one!!)

manda59 -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 9:03:38 PM)

I tell you something I had in the US that I've not heard of here, and REALLY enjoyed, and that was Sour Dough Bread. It was so tasty!

HisCovenant -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 9:05:32 PM)

You don't have sourdough bread? It's heavenly!

manda59 -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 9:07:07 PM)

If we do, I've never seen it. [&:]

HisCovenant -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 9:08:45 PM)

We also call people a "sourdough."

quote:

SOURDOUGH - Historically, it referred to prospectors that would carry into the field the fermenting sourdough to make biscuits, flapjacks and bread. The fermenting yeast starter could easily be smelt by others that came nearby, and thus the name "sourdough" became associated with the prospectors themselves. Today, in modern times, it is a term that refers to an experienced placer miner.

We also don't use "smelt" instead of "smelled" unless you're the writer of that defination. [;)]

agapetos -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 9:09:27 PM)

You'll have to pop up and visit me... there's this little bakery in town ~ if they don't make sour dough bread regularly, I bet they'd make to order!

HisCovenant -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 9:13:06 PM)

The thing about sourdough is you have to have a base that you feed regularly. You don't just "make it." It takes time to ferment the starter and then you have to keep it growing.

I know... and they'd do that (if you gave them enough warning)... it's that kinda place! I've a suspicion they do it already though...

manda59 -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 9:22:51 PM)

We used to have a little bakery like that in the town where I grew up (Caterham). The two we have here just aren't the same. [&:]

I am loving my town more and more... we''ve got some really good independant shops ~ they make you feel like long lost friends when you go in, even if you don't buy much or often. We've got a little deli ('little' being the operative word) and it's changed hands a couple of times. The last owner thought a bit much of himself, so I didn't go much, the ones that are in there now are so sweet ~ so ummm... I go as much as I can afford[;)]

MamaMilty -> RE: Question from a Brit to any Y... umm American (3/3/2008 9:29:05 PM)

Well, well, well! I simply could not imagine why there were over 100 posts about gas!!!

So now I've got to ask, Manda and Aga, do you regularly say, "to be honest" and "off you go"?

Nicole and Julie, have you ever met a Wiggle?
