jodavi -> Patrick Swayze (3/5/2008 5:24:55 PM)

I read this today and just made me sad[:o] 'still hoping that it's only a rumor

'praying for him and his family.

uncabeeil -> RE: Patrick Swayze (3/6/2008 10:43:49 AM)

Since Fox's source was the National Enquirer, and Swayze's friends and family say it comes as a surprise to them, I'd wait for a more reliable source.

crankius -> RE: Patrick Swayze (3/6/2008 11:31:44 AM)

It's not a rumor. It was all over the news this morning, with a statement released from his doctor.

miasma -> RE: Patrick Swayze (3/6/2008 11:33:27 AM)

Swayze's publicist issued the following statement to TMZ: "Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment."

The statement continues, "Patrick's physician Dr. George Fisher states, 'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.' Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

Okay, I think that's just a little more reliable than the Enquirer.

doinkdom -> RE: Patrick Swayze (3/6/2008 1:37:26 PM)

Pancreatic Cancer is so painful and fast. [&o]

Not sure what "very limited amount of disease" means cause by the time they usually find cancer in the pancreas...it's already too late.

I would hope there are new medical procedures out there that support the dr. statement.

I met Swayze and his wife back in the 80's while he was filming North & South and he really is a very nice guy. His wife was also a lot of fun to hang with.

Wow! I'm incredibly jealous. . .I loved him in that series!

doinkdom -> RE: Patrick Swayze (3/6/2008 3:06:44 PM)

I was one of the managers in the hotel where he and most of the cast and crew were staying...

it really was a lot of fun.

ETA: it was during that filming when he father died...very tragic - he was a basket case for a while.

jodavi -> RE: Patrick Swayze (3/6/2008 3:09:52 PM)

I know he's been married for awhile but did not realize that they've been married since 1975- that's a big 'yeay' for marriage in Hollywood-- actually even outside Hollywood.

ladioffaith -> RE: Patrick Swayze (3/6/2008 4:48:23 PM)

I hope he beats this thing too ... but pancreatic cancer is very aggressive.

Meanwhile, my big concern is the fact that they're playing this up so big, interviewing his co-stars and writing stories that look almost like obituaries. I hope that won't diminish his will to fight.

doinkdom -> RE: Patrick Swayze (3/6/2008 4:54:13 PM)

He "left" the glitz of hollywood long ago, doing the occassional indepedent movie role...so hopefully, he won't read half of what's in print. His family will probably shield themselves from it.

The more I think about it, the sadder the news is.

Actually, there is more than one "type" of pancreatic cancer. If it is a tumor that hasn't metasticized (sp?) that they can operate on, he may have a very good chance of survival. If, however, it has spread to where they cannot get to it, it may be ugly. I've had two friends with pancreatic cancer and one is fine and in recovery and the other passed within 6 mos of being diagnosed.

I agree. The last I heard (a loonnng time ago) is that Swayze is a member of the church of scientology.

doinkdom -> RE: Patrick Swayze (4/16/2008 12:51:50 PM)

He is listed as a past adherent and not currently in Scientology.

That was last updated in 2005.

So...not sure right now.

DenimDiva -> RE: Patrick Swayze (4/16/2008 12:53:52 PM)

ah.... thanks for the update.

heh0815 -> RE: Patrick Swayze (4/24/2008 1:58:00 PM)

Blessings to PS!

JordanW -> RE: Patrick Swayze (4/24/2008 3:32:31 PM)

My prayer is that he beats this thing and that all will be ok. I'm sure there are many people praying for him all over the world.

redeemedsaint -> RE: Patrick Swayze (4/25/2008 9:48:58 AM)

From what I heard on Entertainment Tonight, he is getting his affairs in order. It is sad to hear this, but hopefully he can beat the odds, but from what I have been hearing, he does not have much time.

DenimDiva -> RE: Patrick Swayze (4/25/2008 11:37:47 AM)

I'm very sorry to hear this. I hope he has turned to Jesus.
