When we are focused on worship of the LORD, Evil wishes to distract us. Satan, evil spirits and our own carnal flesh works against us daily and we must renew our minds daily to stay focused even in worship. I have had problems, and thoughts, at church. A couple of weeks ago this fine woman was up from me and I was like, "Why am I staring at her buttocks???" I had to get my thoughts straight and stay focused. That is what me all must do. There are lot of good looking women in churches across this nation, and we must be honorable in our thoughts and with our eyes. Last week for example. There is this one lady who goes to my church who looks like Paris Hilton (except she's classy) and she was walking and this dude was getting water and he saw her, he lost focus and the water kept on running at the fountain. [:D] We have to be focused in church, it's happened to me and this lady every time she looks at me she's like "Aren't you the guy who was staring at my breasts that one Sunday?" [:o] We have to be focused, don't feel guilty, repent, move on and stay focused. GOD'S grace it what carries us in these times. Do some of you other guys have this problem? The women at my church dress conservative, and it's winter here in Michigan so dress isn't the problem, it's my own and other guys own lust.

I'd doubt the veracity of any man who claimed he didn't have this problem from time to time. This is the very reason I look at the floor alot when I'm in church.

Although it was mostly an emotional attraction rather than a physical one. Church should not be thought of as a safe place. It would be nice if it was a safe haven from temptation but it's not. It can be even more dangerous than the secular world cause we think of church as a safe place and let down our guard.

My pastor's wife is a very attractive woman. She plays the piano and I lead worship. We met one day with the praise team for practice. She had just come from running and was wearing a sports bra under her t-shirt. Her nickels were protruding quite obviously and I found it incredibly difficult not to stare. It was an awful temptation. The A/C was on and she was clearly adjusting to the temp change from outside, but it was a big temptation for not only myself, but a couple of the other guys as well. I had to change my focus and ask God to help me. That was my only hope.

To prevent this problem DURING WORSHIP, it can help to sit near the front. That's what we do for other reasons, but it does prevent this type of temptation.

BigBoyTenor, Wow!!! [X(] A lot of folks make adjustments, about where they sit. Sitting up front helps. I just stayed focused today.

Your church sounds rather... gifted. There's a lot of eldery folks in our church. I would question my mental stability if I found myself having this problem.

My wife and I visited a church a while back then we were looking for a new one. I toldmy wife that I did not like it using some dumb excuse. The real problem was that the worship leader was a very attractive female, and while not seductively dressed her attire, along with her movements (swaying etc) made me lustful. I could not look at her and think of God. Now I have other issues that make it hard not to but she diffenently was not helping matters. Just keep your eyes on god and a hold on your wife. That helps me now

Hello BlackCapnHarlock Just marveling at the wondrous works of God aren't you. Ha. Listen, we guys are wired visually. If a nice set of hips just happen to appear before us, we're going to notice. Hey, maybe that's why the preachers in traditional churches sat up on the stage. Oh my. How irreverent. I heard a preache just tonight say, "If you happen to see the wind lift a woman's dress you will notice. But don't follow her praying for the Lord to send another wind." In other words, men can't help but notice but don't let things mesmerize you into la la land. There's hardle a man that hasn't at one time of another lusted. Our only cure for it is for the Holy Spirit to do a work in our hearts. Gary Smalley has some interesting things along that line. He's really helpful.

I'm a worship leader at church, and while we don't get too wild and crazy, sometimes there are things going on that I take notice of. It's hard not to while you're facing the congregation. I find that you have to be really focused on what it is you're there to do, and that is worship God. Consequently, most of the time I spend with my eyes closed, because, honestly, sometimes women can be distracting. Case in point: we had a woman who got saved and started coming to church several years ago with her children (not sure which came first). During worship she left no doubt that she was fabulously saved and on fire for God. The biggest distraction was that she jumped up and down and sometimes stood on her chair -- consequently I had to redouble my intents to remain focused on worship and God. While I have to admit that she was definitely attractive, the other insidious thought that I had to deal with was the fact that she was so excited and exuberant -- something my wife is not. My wife and I sometimes have our disagreements, but I know that she loves God and that she loves me as well. Fortunately, everyone has matured in the years that followed all this. The woman in question is still on fire for God and exuberant in worship, but no longer jumps up and down as much. I've learned to keep my eyes shut and ward off the temptation to think (even for a second) that the grass could be greener elsewhere...

We are told to think of Women as mothers and sisters. While temptation and natural inclination toward the beauty of women is natural, we are also commanded to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We can't help when Satan tempts us through our minds and we can't help some of the thoughts he tries to put in our heads. We don't have to entertain them, however, and if we resist him, he will flee from us. Bub,

Sitting in the front of the congregation is the best way to stay focused. I know I have a wandering eye, so I try to keep as focused as possible. Since I don't tell people why I do this, still sometimes a gal will amble over to sit with me.. Oh well.

I am from Michigan as well, and it feels like November. So, if lust is your problem, move to Michigan for the winter, and join the Amish or Mennonites for the summer.

One time our church had a swim party. Guess what, I got to see a lot of my sisters in some revealing outfits. I got to tell you, hard time focusing on the Lord there. I know it was a fellowship time and even many married women there. It was hard. YOu dont mean to look, but some things are just hanging out there. It made me want to talk and notice some that I had not talked to before, prolly because I got to see more of them than I ever had. The idea was great, familes fellowshipping, there were kids there and food and just good fun. However I got to tell you the next time the had the same type of event, I did not go. I just had to make up my mind that I was not gonna see my sisters like that again. I wanted to, I really did, but I just had to say no and did not go. I also mentioned it to some members of the church leadership. They still have it, but I jsut acannot attend. For me it is too, too much of a temptaion and I stillhave thoughts of what I saw. Lord help me forget.

They even have problems with lust, it's a part of life. I got in contact with a guy from Pakistan and even in the strictest nations they have the same issues that we have, some say even worse because they are so legalistic. Ever since I did this thread, I've had probably no issues in church, so confession is great for me. I like this website, it's the only place I can feel I can be honest. I must reach out to other men at my church, I just can't keep this stuff in me anymore, I feel like a phony and it needs to come out, I need to talk about it and move on.

I agree with them church picnics are one thing, but swim parties are just too much temptation.

I gotta say that I am single and I have to keep myself from looking at the women in my church like I am picking out an attractive young gal. I am not against finding someone in church and I am not against finding someone who I "noticed across the sanctuary and went up to meet." But I dont' want the women thinking there in a meat market and it can get destrating. It doesn't bother me that much and I don't feel terrorized by it but its there. Swim parties: At all of the swim parties for my church it was mostly kids in the pool and the swim suits. This may have been because we offered a lot of other stuff like volleyball and whatever. You might mention this, even anonymously, to someone in the leadership of your church.

Since I've done this thread, I've had less of a problem, and even today, was a great day. I guess it was good to get this off my chest. Thanks everyone. The warmer weather is coming and I am thinking about mentioning it to the Pastor but the women at our church aren't bad at all.
