Jimmy Durante

From wiki:

For years he signed off his radio and TV shows with "Goodnight Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are", but he would never divulge who she was. Some speculated it was a "code name" for a current or former lover, some doubted she ever existed. It was not until after his death in 1980 that it was revealed she was, indeed, a real person.

So who was the mystery woman?

We have a winner.

I have no idea who she was.

Ooops, I didn't get that from Wiki, but from imbd.com.

Here is the mystery woman:

quote:

According to the book, "Hollywood Trivia," (Greenwich House, 1984), by David P. Strauss, Jimmy Durante's famous "Mrs. Calabash" sign-off referred to his first wife, Jeanne Olson. Calabash was the name of a Chicago suburb they both liked.

Comic Sonny King, who worked with Durante during his career, stated in an interview that the mysterious "Mrs. Calabash" was indeed Jimmy's late wife Jeanne Olson, but "Calabash" was a reference to Calabasas, California, where she was hospitalized in her later years. She had difficulty in pronouncing the city name, often calling it "Calabash", and it became an inside joke for the Durantes.

So there ya go!

I have seen people put peanut butter on celery. I don't like celery at all.

Just to let you all know that with all this talk of peanut butter, before I left to do errands I grabbed a PB sammich to take a long for snack.

Bread and butter pickles, I'll pass on... thank you very much. With peanut butter? That's gotta be some sort of an abomination... As far as peanut butter and celery - I like it for a quick snack. (Another combination I've seen like that is a snack for kiddos - you simply add a few raisins to the peanut butter, and viola! You have "ants on a log". )

My stepdaughter eats ketchup on corn... and she used to mix ice cream, ketchup and dill pickles together too. What's the fascination with ketchup anyways? There's no way any of those combinations could taste good.

I'm with you....I use very little ketchup on anything. Not that I have anything against it but I use very little condiments on anything.

Years ago Baskin Robbins tested a ketchup ice cream. It did not sell.

besides peanut butter, mayo and banana, the grossest thing that i love are boiled pigs feet (not pickled) and i like to mix things (such as english peas) with my mashed potatoes and shove that mixter into a dinner roll.

By the way, ketchup (OR catsup) is an abomination of the absolute worse kind.

It is not even allowed in my house; unless I'm having company and I think they may be so misguided as to want some. Then the ketchup (OR catsup) bottle promptly goes home with them when they leave my house.
