It keeps it hot. I think they vary as to the length of time that the food stays warm ~ I know that some are 4 hours, some are longer.

I don't always sleep very well and my house gets cold in winter. They're great to be able to use so I can take them upstairs and curl up in bed, knowing I don't have to freeze at 3am if I'm hungry trying to get something hot (and not junk) to eat.

Thank you. It's important for hot food to be hot. I'm going to look into getting one.

What have you cooked recently that turned out well?

My barley bread has always worked out before. I'm using my remoska tomorrow.

I use my remoska to make a rice dish ~ rice, spelt pearls, beans (tinned right now to use them up), celery, pepper, chillies, meat (generally chicken, depends what I have in though!), stock, other veg in it or with it (I love my veg ). Very easy and foolproof and tastes pretty good (even if I say so myself!).

That sounds pretty good!

What is a remoska? (Sorry, I haven't read all of this thread. If you've already described it, please send me back a few pages.)

Can't recall if I said what it was before. There's a site here that will explain (with images) about a Remoska. I bought the 'grand' a couple of months back after debating for years as to whether it was a good idea or not (the deciding factor was that it was about £30 cheaper because of a damaged box!) and love it ~ it's wonderful for cooking a whole roast chicken in. My mother gave me her 'baby' because she didn't like it or use it or whatever. When I do my rice dish, I start of the celery, pepper, chilli and onion in the baby and then transfer it to the grand when I add the rice and other ingredients. Means I have enough for a several meals.

Cool. Thanks for the link. It reminds me of a pressure cooker minus the need for a range to heat it up.

Making enough for several meals is the way to go. When I eat better, it's because I make sure and do that. When I lapse and don't cook a big meal on Sunday, then I don't eat as well at work all week.

I guess it is a bit like a pressure cooker in looks, but it's far removed from one. I never really got on with pressure cookers for some reason.

I made my bread . It turned out better than usual . I wasn't sure it was all going to fit in the pan, but it did, just. Because the heating element is in the top of the Remoska, the top went browner than usual but I covered it with foil as was suggested.

It's really good with Marmite and cheese .

Does anyone else have a problem with not varying their diet sometimes? I don't mean eating junk foods, but eating the same meal over several days.

Sharon-Marie, was thinking of you today as I was starting my barley bread. Did you ever get to making it? I shall probably think of you tomorrow when I finish it too! I'm making it in a different way though, so hoping it turns out.
Aga, it only took me almost 2 months to answer this.

My apologies for that.

No, I never did make it . . . when we first discussed it, I found my time priorities being taken up with other things.

And I've since have eliminated gluten-foods from my diet . . . and sadly enough, barley has gluten in it. ::heavy sigh::

Oh well.

BTW, I'm really enjoying your new thread over in Health and Fitness!

Thank you It sounds like you've really benefited from what you've done with regards to your diet and I'm delighted for you. If I find a gluten-free bread, you can be sure I'll post it!

I was just about to reply to the other thread, so I'll do it here.

Tonight, I'm going to make a new brownie recipe... using black beans!! Oh, and there's no flour or sugar, either, but everyone raves that these are good. So I'll fix these and let y'all know.

If you ever make them for me, Michelle, don't tell me they're from black beans.

Will do!

Actually, I just put them in the oven, but had to do a taste-test first. Oh my gosh, you'd have no clue they're made from brownies!! It tastes like chocolate cake (the batter's a little thin for me to call it a brownie). But I'll tweak it!

Actually, I don't remember doing it that weekend. In fact, I'm pretty sure I didn't... I tried to cook as little as possible. But that was funny -- I thought you remembered something I didn't.

You can use white beans in 'sweet' foods too. And courgettes!

That's cool! I hadn't thought of that. Just one question... what are courgettes?

But y'know, I wonder what makes them "work"? I mean, beans are nothing like white flour. I'm perplexed, but hey, if it works, I'm all for it!

I think the only thing you made were pancakes and eggs...*pauses*

It was pancakes...right? And not mashed tofu?
