Okay, here are the nominations for quotes. Cynthia, could you please put these up in a poll for me? We don't have very long, so we need to vote fast. You can just put up the author of each quote into the poll if you want. And in Germany, in Prussia precisely, in the early part of the 19th century, it was mathematically determined by high-level debate that only one kid out of every 200 should be allowed to think that way. Another ten or eleven should be allowed to learn partially to think that way. Those people would end up being the doctors, the lawyers, the college professors, the architects, and they would be the servants of the people trained in leadership thinking.—John Taylor Gatto “The main hope of a nation lies in the proper education of its youth.” ~Desiderius Erasmus The philosophy of the schoolroom in one generation is the philosophy of government in the next.” ~Abraham Lincoln “To repeat what others have said, requires education; to challenge it, requires brains.” ~Mary Pettibone Poole "A tax supported, compulsory educational system is the complete model of the totalitarian state." -- Isabel Patterson "I suppose it is because nearly all children go to school nowadays and have things arranged for them that they seem so forlornly unable to produce their own ideas. " --Agatha Christie “Home schooling is a very old way of doing things. If you look at any of the bills in your wallet or the coins in your pocket, they all have a picture of a homeschooler on them.” ~William Lloyd “I believe it would be much better for everyone if children were given their start in education at home. No one understands a child as well as his mother, and children are so different that they need individual training and study. A teacher with a room full of pupils cannot do this. At home, too, they are in their mother’s care. She can keep them from learning immoral things from other children.” ~Laura Ingalls Wilder "Home schoolers should not attempt to impose their loony, paranoid and perverse ideas on the nation"-- Kader Asmal
