What I have found is that most Mexican food in the US is actually Mex/Tex food. Does not resemble Mexican food in Mexico for the most part.

Tex/Mex Qt ..... we must never put mex before the Great State of Texas And you are correct...most of what is considered "mexican food" here is stuff that I (I is Texican) have never eaten.

My apologies. I did not mean to get them in the wrong order.

BTW I have eaten both and prefer the real Mexican to what we have here but I also love the food around South Texas.

We (my family and I) are constantly invited to "go out and eat mexican"....why would we do that when we "eat mexican" everyday!

Sincere mistake on the order (I get prideful being 3rd generation Texan and all )....oh no i'm a heathern again!

Have y'all ever heard of Moe's? It's a chain that claims to be tex/mex.

They're good, but I think people 'round her consider them mexican, when they're really not.

They also have funny names for their menu items like the Full Monty and the Homewrecker.

I have never lived in Texas but have many friends that have or do. Actually when my family migrated south out of Virginia about half of them ended up in Tennessee and the other half either ended up in Arkansas or Texas. I actuall share ancestor with some rather famous Texans.

Oh! Yes. Moe's SouthWestern Grill or something like that. They are famous for their Burritos. You go through a line and tell them what you want on it. Not to bad really. But not real Mexican either.

And you hear Welcome to Moe's as you come through the front door.

I do very much enjoy Tex-Mex, but real, authentic Mexican is in a class all it's own.

Me too. A few years ago we went to Mexico and was having lunch in a pretty big restaurant there and I noticed a little old lady sitting by an open fire pit. She was making tortillas. Not being the bashful type I walked over and ask for one fresh off the hot rock. She gave me one. I must have ate it rather quickly because when I went back to my seat I felt a tap on my shoulder. The little old lady brought me a dozen.

And shredded pork or goat where the animal was just butchered, cooked in a pot of it's own juices and simmered all day over an open fire... Tender and juicy...

And lots of fresh cilantro and tomatoes...

And...

Sigh... I finished my lunch but now I'm hungry again...

I am afraid so. Not very much ground beef in Mexico. They use a lot of port chicken and goat.

I would not go out of my way to get it here. But with the spices and peppers they use in Mexico it can be pretty tasty. Of course like all other food it depends on if the cook knows what they are doing.

You have to take into consideration, Qtman does not eat breakfast often and had no lunch. Therefore he has not had anything to eat since supper last night.
