ORIGINAL: Kerrlaw1 Regular posters will not be surprised to learn that I voted for the Hoppers. I would like to hear the Diplomats. I listen to Southern Gospel radio every day and do not remember ever hearing them. Please suggest an album. You can hear a sampling of their music on their myspace page (www.myspace.com-thediplomatsquartet). They have a link there to their website, where you can order product. Give them a listen!

A great record deal with superlative radio promotion is all that is standing in the way of The Dips becoming a major contender in the SGM industry. They already have a great fanbase locally and regionally. They have been very well received on the national circuit, since signing with the best booking agency in the biz last Fall. Over the years, they have earned the well deserved respect of the majority of their peers. They have a HUGE sound that is reminiscent of the great family groups of the past. Everyone compares Mrs. Rita to the late Vestal Goodman. Every night, they get comments like "I thought I'd never get the chance to see what the Happy Goodmans were like in person, but tonight, I did when The Diplomats took the stage..." , "The are as genuine and as sweet as The Hemphills..." and "...although The Hinsons retired, The Diplomats picked up their spiritual mantle and took it to the next enegetic level!" So... HEY, Daywind.... Listen up, Crossroads.... THINK D-I-P-L-O-M-A-T-S!!!

I agree. I just wish radio would get behind them. Their current radio promotions people must be taking a long nap, or something. I see the company's ad every month in the Singing News, but don't see where they've got The Diplomats very much radio chart action lately. What gives?

I don't remember them (Diplomats) ever making it to NC for a concert (at least not in my neck of the woods). While I do agree they have a huge regional following and very loyal fan base, I don't think they've quite hit the 'national spotlight' yet. But from the sound of things that could happen sooner than later.

The Diplomats will be on live at Solid Gospel Radio in Nashville Tn. Thurs. April 3 on the Greg Hutchins Show from 9 to 10 o'clock. We hope you can tune in and be a part of our program. I personally want to thank all of you for the comments about us. We count it a great honor to be in the top ten, but for those who know us personally know whether we make it to the top 5 or even sing on the main stage at NQC our main objective will not change ,that is to reach as many lost souls and tell them about our Lord and Savior thru our music before his coming. Everytime you pray remember to pray for the groups out there every week trying to build Gods Kingdom

saw the Hoppers and song Jerusalem will always be special to me. I voted for Isaacs even though I think this past year Crist Family was best in that lot

May 3 they are scheduled in Cullowhee, NC.

I was wondering how many of the people who voted for the Diplomats were not from Georgia. That would be interesting to know.

I can see why you would ask that, but it looks like they have as many or more loyal fans that are from other states, as well. (Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, and now, quite a number in Arkansas and Missouri). Just remember that because they have a very strong core fan base in their local area, doesn't give reason to think that's the only place they are popular. Another thought: Could it possibly be that they are good stewards of the money God has blessed them with, and they make a conscious effort not to dart back and forth from one end of the country to the other just to say they are accepted on a 'national' scale? Like most groups, I'm sure they are willing to go most anywhere in the US, especially if their agency makes it financially feasible. But I'd say they'd turn down a West Coast tour -- no matter how good it would look on their list of accomplishments -- if it was gonna put them in the red. There are plenty of places to sing within 500-1000 miles of Atlanta, and still get The Message of Jesus out to the masses. Seems like from bulba's posts, that THAT is where their greatest concerns lie.

If more groups limited their travel or scheduled their travel a little better they would be financially better off. The Dips do travel out of the area, but as you say they don't zig - zag back and forth across the country. Look at some of the groups schedules they travel over 500 miles a day to get from one place to another. They may be in Ohio today, Georgia tomorrow and Indiana the next day. That cost. The Dips are able to keep their cost down by not jumping back & forth across country. They are a ministry group and don't travel for show. We are proud of them here in Georgia and others that have seen and heard them know how great they are.

I really realized what you were asking had no insinuation to it; it was just a legitimate question! See? That's why we have to be careful and read these things CAREFULLY!

The reasons discussed for the Diplomats' limited area of exposure are certainly true. Another reason, and possibly the biggest one, is the fact that they have regular commitments every year at about 100 different churches which they aren't willing to stop doing. When you have 52 weeks in a year and that many regular services (some of these churches have them 2 or 3 times a year) that doesn't leave a lot of time to do a lot of extraneous traveling.
