Leah, to acknowledge that someone does something over and over isn't making fun. I LOVE the Perrys but I'd be crazy to say that Tracy didn't pat Libbi on the head - does he do it as often now as he used to? Nope but he still did it a lot! He 'plays' with Matt 'trying to get him to sing' again, that's a staged antic that he does most often on the songs that the crowd loves!

I've been around SGM for over 35 years and on at LEAST 85% of the concerts I've seen Peg on she kicked off her shoes, usually in the exact same spot on the same songs. She doesn't do it as much any more (that's where your 15% came in) but she did it a lot and used to do it EVERY concert.

No one is bashing the group-just acknowledging that sometimes the groups get into routines and in those routines the same things happen repeatedly.

Just a side note, this is the same type of thing I was referring to earlier - Peg and the group never had a problem with folks talking about her kicking off her shoes but some fans thing anything that isn't total praise of a group is bashing them. That's why the imitations were often bigger hits with the artists than the fans!

I remember when Hamill would always take his coat off and throw it, when things got going good in the concert. I always knew it was coming, and kind of expected it, just like Peg kicking off her shoe, or with the Cathedrals, when Glen got excited, he kinda started running on stage. I love watching that stuff, staged or not.

As I said before, to equate Tracy trying to get Matt to sing, or Jeff changing his voice to sound like someone else, to Peg’s response to the Holy Ghost are two very different things. To me, an equivalent comment might be to say that Lib “cries in the same spot in the same song every night” and have someone do that onstage and laugh.

The first post in this thread stated four “facts”, and the first one was false. Like Leah, I have seen the McKameys in concert many times over the past fifteen years, and there is absolutely no pattern or distinct time for Peg to kick off her shoes. Also, to imply that the last poster only fell into the 15% of concerts as compared to your 85% is unfair.

Who really cares? I think everyone would admit that Peg kicks her shoes off sometimes. No, maybe not always, and maybe not at the same times, but she has kicked them off. I think that was the point of the OP. [;)]


BTW, I think it's pretty neat - what's wrong with mentioning it?

I don't know if this really qualifies as an "antic", but every time we would see Greater Vision, Gerald would always say "he had a request" to sing Oh Holy Night. I would always say to myself "yeah right, who made the request, him?". It didn't matter if it was in the middle of the summer and 90 degrees out. He would sing it.

And it also didn't matter where he was. I saw them in various concerts different places and they did it and I've even seen him do it NQC about every year.

Now I already know that some of you are going to say "he really did have requests", or "that's such a great song", or "stop bashing my favorite group".

I accept all that. It just always seemed self-serving to me (and other people that were with me). It got to be a joke with us, like "when will Gerald declare that someone requested him to sing Oh Holy Night?" [:)]

Maybe you should request him not to sing it if you dislike it so much. [:D]


I don't think it's "self-serving" to mention that someone requested a Christmas song in July. [:D]

in defence of myself i do believe i said "perceived stage antics", no where did i say was factual, but this has occurred on the majority of times i have seen the mckamey's, in the same spot in the concert, same song. if she is truly in the spirit, praise god! i am not judge and jury as to what or how she does things. but apparently many others have noticed the same thing. i am of the belief that if god tells you to do something, you do it, but do it to his honor and glory!

My idea of an antic is a funny joke or story they tell. Or maybe something they do in a song.

For example:

A group I love when they are introducing one of the guys he says he's from Mayberry, NC, then the other guy whistles the Andy Griffith tune.

OR

When they guy says his wife is an angel then comments "Yeah she's always up in the air harping about something."

There is a difference between antics and what people do when they feel the spirit (kicking shoes off, waving glory rags). This thread is all in good fun and humor.

Ok not to 'beat a dead horse' but I said at least 85% of the concertts I ATTENDED (and there have been a LOT OF THEM) where she was, this is what she did. I didn't say Leah had only attended a small amount of their concerts or that I had attended more than she had. I don't know. I just know I've seen them a lot and for several years every concert the shoes came off at about the same place. Only she and God know if it was the Holy Spirit or habit, and either way - I don't have a problem with it.

But on more than one occasion I have sat beside diehard McKamey fans who could tell you almost to the second the shoes were going to come off! That is going to be perceived by many as an antic even if it is not.

And as to Tracy trying to 'get Matt to sing' if he almost always does it when he 'gets excited' and she(Peg) often does it(kicks off her shoes) when she 'gets excited' the only difference is you see it as an attack on someone you respect when it is referring to Peg.

As powerful as Gerald sings O Holy Night, he could sing it at every concert, every night and it would still be a Blessing to me. And I have no doubt someone requests it at each concert. Did Gerald say "I just made that up"? If not then someone requested it for sure.

Saw Gerald and GV last summer..it was 100 degrees. He sang OHN coming off the intermission...introduced it by asking the audience if it had been "too hot for them lately"...then saying "it sure had been for him", and that he thought he would "try to cool off the place a little"...no mention of a "request"...the intro got a good laugh (when the song started)...and the song got the only really spontaneous standing O of the evening. The man's a master.

I love that song. And I think no one does it better than Gerald. I've gone to a LOT of GV concerts, and I've only heard him sing it once. I wouldn't mind hearing it every time, but I don't request it because there are so many others I want to request!!![:D]

I think they both do a terrific job on that song! Their styles are different.

Trammell and Wolfe have nothing on this guy...click HERE for the most memorable version of "Oh Holy Night" you'll ever hear!

The way he takes the ending down an octave just when you expect him to go even higher is a masterful stroke! Or maybe he was having a stroke...
