The first Doctor (William Hartnell) had a granddaughter who travelled with him - but I don't know what became of her.

The Doctor left her behind in post-Dalek London, in 2168 with David Campbell ("Dalek Invasion Of Earth"). The next time he sees her is in the 20th Anniversary story "The Five Doctors", and apparently around 30 years has gone by in her time frame. A lot of stuff that Terrance Dicks wrote in that story's original script got cut, including an intended reference to the fact that Susan had children named after Ian and Barbara, and an apology from the 5th Doctor for never having come to visit her like he promised.

A couple of the novels have featured her, and they claim that her children aren't actually hers and David's, but rather are adopted war orphans. One book also has her encountering the Master sometime after David's death (she'd been pretending to look old to match his aging process) and ultimately stealing his TARDIS to begin travelling like her grandfather now that she has no reason to stay on Earth.

The novels aren't generally considered canonical, to you can take their storyline for what it's worth.

For those in the UK ~ last couple of episodes are being repeated this w/end.

OK, are you Yanks going to be watching Midnight tonight? [:)]

Let us know what you thought of it!

Dancre -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (7/12/2008 9:46:34 PM)

I liked it. But I wonder what was the virus thingey? I liked how this affected the Doc. It really shook him up. Poor guy. One day, we may see the Doctor on Dr. Phil.

It was alright...the whole mob mentality thing definitely got on my nerves really really fast and I nearly fast-forwarded through the episode.

But, I saw the flash of Rose. And the doctor's face at the end when Donna hugged him was just so sad.

Sideways -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (7/18/2008 10:22:44 PM)

Sooooooo.... for the Americans. The Bad Wolf is back! I liked it. [:D]

Sideways -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (7/18/2008 10:56:57 PM)

Just a few little points. Billie Piper's voice sounded all wrong. And was it Torchwood who fixed the evil gas problem? Poor Sarah Jane and the kiddos.

Interesting look that Rose gave Donna when Donna asked if she and Doctor were....

ETA: Rose's reaction when Donna said that this world would blink out of existence to be replaced by a better world where she was still alive.... Does Donna die permanently? It seems weird that Rose would be so somber if Donna simply had to die in one reality in order to replace it with a better one. Of course, stepping in front of a truck is never easy (not that I would know).

But would you really want us to spoil it by telling you what happens?

Sideways -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (7/19/2008 7:07:53 AM)

Ok, ok, I didn't expect you to answer me seriously about Donna (though this show does blow through companions pretty fast, doesn't it).

But it was Torchwood who saved the world from the ATMOS gas? It seemed like all the other companions died in some way (Sarah Jane, Martha), but Jack and his crew were still out there trying to save the world, yes?

I read somewhere else that Billie Piper had trouble getting Rose's voice back, that's why she sounded so weird.

Was it Torchwood? Did Sarah Jane and Matha die? Did Jack and co save the world?

Questions questions....[:D]

I'll pm ya if you really want me to spoil things[;)]

The only thing I can recall about Billie Piper getting back into the part was that she went out and bought the series (with her as companion!).

Sideways -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (7/19/2008 7:55:59 AM)

I think you're being a bit silly, agapetos. I was only talking about the events that happened in the episode I watched. And sure, you could say that everything reverted back the moment Donna made her choice.

Alright then, if you Brits don't want to talk about the episode, I'll wait a few more weeks till I can discuss the whole arch with you.

But this is supposed to be a lighthearted thread ~ it's not Theology or Current Events.

I'm honestly not sure what you want me to say about your questions. You want to know who saved the world and who died and who survived. How can we respond without giving spoilers?

I think we'll be really happy to talk about the episode but we don't want to spoil things for you or anyone else by talking about the next episode.

So did I!! Rosie's back!! :) I really liked this show b/c so many times Donna saw herself as stupid, bumbling, an idiot. Yet the Doc sees her as brilliant as do I. It's interesting how she saw herself as not important, when it was her all along that kept Earth alive. Not the doc, her. I think sometimes God sees us like that. We see ourselves as stupid, He sees us as brilliant and needed. A lot of good philosophy in that show. It will be interesting to see how Donna, the doc and Rose stop the Deleks. ;)

I have no intention of giving anyone spoilers in this thread ~ and I probably wouldn't do it in pm either.

I like quite a few American programmes and did (at one time) sub to the relevant threads, but it got pretty annoying to find out stuff before it happened via the thread.

She was still annoyingly lispy so it would appear she did okay.

I liked the episode - actually first time I rather liked Donna in one - and it certainly set the stage for the first part of the season finale this week.

LOL!! That's true. Nothing worse than reading a spoiler. but I do wish the doc would find a love interest. He needs someone. He lives such a tragic Shakespearian life. [&o]

LOL...you must be a relative newbie to the Whoverse.

Back with the mid-90's tv movie fans were aghast that the Doctor actually kissed a woman on screen.

And it's at least semi-cannon that the Gallifreyians no longer reproduced...errrr...by physical methods.

And if you're ever noticed...despite the writers working in more romantic-type relationships for the Doctor...he just doesn't seem to have his mind focused on such things.

Dr. Who is now available on iTunes in the US!!!!

I wish you would have warned me I'd be blown away!! LOL!! and please don't tell me I have to wait until next year to find out who is the new doc? And Sarah Jane and the Torch wood folks??? OI!! You Brits know how to make us yanks bite our nails!!!!! :( I hope Donna's going to be ok. I need to go back and watch reruns in order to see how Captain Jack became the leader of torchwood.

LOL!! Actually, I've watched the doc since 1980. My first doc was Tom Baker. But I didn't know the Time Lords couldn't reproduce. I still want him with a girl, though. :( He seems so very lonely. Again, he's running from something. :)
