So, agapetos, what did you think of tonight? I know it was only Part 1, but .............



I sat down anticipaiting the usual enjoyment, and was shocked to find I was disappointed by about 70% of it. I was even, dare I say it - a bit bored. I found it incredibly slow and unexciting.

Maybe it will pick up in Part 2.[8|]

I shall watch it again tomorrow as I got a bit distracted this evening[&:] but I quite liked it.

I did manage Dr Who Confidential (is it show in the US?) though and really enjoyed that.

I am really enjoying Bernard Cribbings in this.

No, we don't get Dr. Who Confididential. I think that if there is a similar program done for show-that-shall-not-be-named, they use clips from it on BBC-America, though. Too bad that they don't do the same for their airing of Dr. Who.

Dr. Who was good.

I thought the near misses were funny. And, she was a little pathetic, but I could appreciate the fact that she had been chasing all the weird occurances for however long just so she could run into the Dr. again.

I laughed so hard when they were standing in front of the Tardis and the Dr. blurts out that he just wants a "mate" and she's all "you want to mate?"

He was trying to make it clear that he just wanted to be friends and I don't think she was looking for anything more that either.

Very interesting about Rose right at the end. I know she was "lost" at the very end of her character on the show, but I wonder about her actually disappearing...if she's lost in a time loop or what.

Well, I'm a Yankee, and I'd like to think I'm your friend. [8D]

I did watch it, and I honestly enjoyed it. I think Donna is growing on me. I didn't instantly love her, but I'm gonna give this girl a real chance. She's got some spunk, some heart and a few brain cells to rub together.

The story itself was pretty good. Villains were scary, the Doctor was fun to watch as he started to put the pieces together. I especially liked the part where he explains to Donna how he sees the universe (things that can change, and things that must never change). My husband called out the exact moment where he realizes that he must destroy Pompeii, well, except that it would've been destroyed anyway if the bad guys take over.

I laughed at the moment where he said "Right, then, the planet is at stake. That's all I needed to know" Or something to that effect.

There are times, though, especially with Doctor 9, that we turned on closed captioning, because we have trouble picking out what you Brits are saying![;)]

Christopher Eccleston? He's from Manchester, so that might explain it. [:)] Though I can't remember right now if he kept the Manc accent when he played the Doctor.

Did you watch Heroes at all? (if so, did you still find him hard to understand in his role in that?)

I'll be interested to hear what you think of the "American" in Episodes 5 & 6! [;)]

I think you might enjoy next week's - it's very different. Do you remember the Ood from last series?

I do remember. I'm looking forward to it.

I would even miss a word here and there with Rose sometimes. I remember with Eccelston though, he defended himself by saying "Lots of planets have a north!" when Rose called him out on his accent during the first episode.

I'd imagine that some Americans must seem like they have very strange accents - we don't all sound like Texas cowboys! My parents have strong New York accents.

I faded in and out of Season 2 Heroes, so I don't remember much of C.E.

I'm happy to hear that Sarah Jane Adventures is currently filming Series 2. Isn't 12 episodes a bit short for a season? I'm used to a season being 20+ episodes, but I guess it doesn't work that way in Britain.

Interesting that you felt a bit let down - I was relieved that it was so much better than Part 1 and really enjoyed it!!

Watched Pompei and enjoyed it.

As for accents...I can pretty much understand David Tennant all the time - he does tend to talk really, really, really, really fast though and I have to turn up the volume a little.

The previous doctor (the one that was on Heroes) was easier to understand for me.

Now as for Rose...I always understood her, but that lisp or whatever [8|] drives me crazy.

I'm still not sold on Catherine Tate yet. She hasn't grown on me as of yet, but I'm sure it will happen.

I just don't like bossy women (they tend to NOT listen to anyone) and women who think that just because they see something one way, there is no other way...anyway, that's just personal preference. I just would've thought that she'd understand the deal about historical events and such better than she did.

Can't wait for next week...

I can usually understand David Tennant, too. Once in a while he does an aside that I don't get. My husband doesn't pick up on it as well as I do.

Speaking of "speaking fast," I wonder if the Heroes producers told Christopher to slow down, because I believe he spoke more slowly in Heroes than he did as the 9th Doctor.

BBC-America had a funny gimmick a while back about telling us Yanks to turn on closed captioning if we were having trouble understanding the accents.

BTW, Billie Piper's call girl miniseries (I'm assuming it's tawdry) is going to air on Showtime in the US.

Strangely enough, yes. If your ear is used to a certain accent, your mind can more readily fill in any minute gaps. If you're not accustomed to a certain sound, then a slightly higher volume will help.

When I first read that I thought "that poster must be male", then I looked at your profile.[8D]

I think one reason companions have to appear so clueless is that the story teller needs a reason for the hero to explain things, like Sherlock to Dr. Watson. I just found her to be very emotional, like when Rose wanted to change history by saving her dad. Faced with real live people in front of you, it would be hard for a normal human to step back and let them die.

Wouldn't you be tempted to say "Forget the history books, these are living, breathing people who are going to die if I do nothing" ?

*snicker* Busted. [8D] Well, seriously, some people just plain talk loud, like my dad.

But slowing down your speech, and (in my opinion) speaking a bit louder and more clearly, can help if someone is having trouble understanding you. But of course, such things can be grossly exaggerated for comedic effect. [;)]
