Some posters clowned on Dancing With Danger, but it was actually my favorite by her. "Gina" was the first I heard of her from her first project, but DWD had "Strength of My Life", the title track, and "The Light of Love", which was controversial at the time, was a wonderful deterrant for pre-marital sex for me. I hate that she felt the hurt from religious folk, particularly when she stated that CCM led her to the Lord. Unfortunately, BUSINESS did - and does- get in the way of ministry.

"Computer brains, put garbage in, computer brains, get garbage out, computer brains, programming you, computer brains, what can you do? Break out!" I don't know the lyrics on any of the albums you've mentioned (except a possible smattering of The Beatles), but I would challenge you to compare the lyrics of those albums to what the Bible says and see if you find them above reproach. This is the whole reason CCM even exists. Christians like fun, exciting, emotive music but do not want to be bombarded by ideas that contradict their faith. If the vocals were removed from all of pop music, I would have no problem listening to everything from Marilyn Manson to Snoop Dogg to Brittney. Well, ok, maybe not Brittney. quote:
three of those records - those of The Clash, The Beatles, and Van Morrison - are in the Top 50 rock records of all-time. Cheap Trick's record is considered one of the greatest live recordings ever. Your freshman composition professor is rolling over in her grave. Please cite your source here. I understand you like them, but that doesn't mean a hill of beans as to the generally accepted greatness of these particular albums. quote:
It says that I do not have to listen to CCM to be a Christian... Nope, you sure don't. My dad has a saying about people who smoke that correlates here: "Being a smoker won't send you to hell, it will just make you smell like you've been there."

Sam did the "music cues" (or fills) for Gillmore Girls -those little 5 to 10 second segments where there was accoustic guitar and humming in between scenes and before commercials. That's why I mentioned them in my first post on this thread. They (the cues) were actually quite good, and it was fairly easy to recognize that it was her if you've spent any time at all listening to her albums. Her voice is pretty unique. Yes. Her guitar is clearly the music playing over the credits as well, and did you catch her cameo appearance on camera? It was uncredited but I'm about 99% certain it was her.

As a 40 year-old man who refuses to argue with someone with no sense of rock and roll history, this will be my last post regarding this topic. Okay, because you require sources for The Clash, The Beatles, and Van Morrison records, try these on for size: http://www.time.com/time/2006/100albums/index.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_Stone's_500_Greatest_Albums_of_All_Time Cheap Trick's "At Budokan": http://music.ign.com/articles/780/780552p4.html http://www.rollingstone.com/photos/gallery/17411224/rock_list_the_twentyfive_best_li/2/ With the exception of The Waterboys "Fishermans Blues", I'm sure these records will be selling thousands and thousands of copies for years to come - well after Neal Morse's CD's are gathering dust in the cutout bins. See ya... P.S. I bet you'll be doing the Church Lady "Superior Dance" as you read this post. You might also want to reconsider doubting others Christianity while you're at it.

Thank you for the sources, but of course it all boils down to opinion in the end anyhow. So, your top three are good because they make a lot of sales? That's an interesting barometer. Say, Samlie Phillips has sold quite a few albums in secular music considering she's been there for almost 20 years. Guess it wasn't such a bad commercial decision to leave CCM after all, eh? BTW, guess who else's music wallowed in obscurity for over a hundred years because it was considered unimportant...JS Bach. Thanks to the Mendelssohns we all have a major appreciation for that baroque composer now. Hey, you can listen to whatever you want, that's why it's called popular music. As for me, I will listen to music that's expressed purpose is to glorify the living God.

I guess I missed that - I'll have to pay attention when I watch reruns or get the DVDs. I do remember Carol King having a small role (owner of the music store where Lane's band practiced, if I remember right) - which I thought was pretty cool. She's no actress, but she did herself proud.

She is playing a guitar and singing on a corner.

Seems like there were several well known musicians who were trying to get that town troubador position. That was a good episode, but I don't believe I saw it but one time. Definately will watch more closely next time it comes on.

I kind of see her as the prodigal daughter. She wanted to identify more with her dark side back then, and associated herself with her heroes like TBone, and Bruce Cockburn (ultra liberal christians). I understand that TBone left his wife and children for Sam, and that caused alot of anger and controversy. I also heard that they got divorced recently as well, so my feeling is that she is rebounding to her roots. She didn't find the golden goose by going down that path, instead she found the brass ring...I say we should embrace her with open arms and the love of Christ. I think she has had a hard enough time as it is. God bless!

Like the Violet Burning said, "We are not punished for our sins, but by them." IMO, Leslie is no exception to this truism. I will be applauding her appearance at this festival. I also don't understand all the animosity toward her appearing there. Isn't she the prodigal daughter in a way, returning Home? Shouldn't we rejoice with her? I know I do. :)
