The oldest living woman's grand daughter in law is quoted: "She is a healthy, active woman. She walks each day and makes sure she drinks at least one glass of olive oil,"

http://www.kabobfest.com/2008/02/oldest-woman-alive-palestinian.html

Thoughts???

YUCK!

George Burns smoked cigars all his life and lived to be really old, but I wouldn't recommend that, either.

I didn't read the article but that's gross. And yes, some people who have lived to be 100 also have had a shot of whiskey a day too... so who knows why some people get to live to be 100.

I wouldn't want to be 120.

a glass of olive oil would mean like over 2000 calories.

I absolutely love olive oil. I cook & bake with it, and I also use it as a skin moisturizer.

But never have I nor do I ever intend to drink it.
That makes me queasy just thinking about it.

on another note, from the article:
quote:

A resident of the village of Jisr az-Zarka, Amash reportedly has "10 sons, one daughter, about 120 grandchildren, 250 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren."
That is one prolific bunch of baby-making people! 120 grandchildren from 11 (or less) children. Can you imagine if the 120 grandchildren then went on to have an average of 10 babies each, etc., etc.

It always cracks me up when someone says they lived to be 100 because they did something or another. While there's a lot to be said for clean, healthy living, the bottom line is, if a person lives to be 100 because God allows them to live to be 100!

Personally, I'd rather die early than drink a glass of olive oil!

For me, the thought of living to be 100 just isn't all that appealing, but if that's what God has planned for me, I guess I'll just have to comply!

Edited because I can't spell today!

I know England's oldest driver (who also happens to be the oldest employer in the country) ~ she turned 100 last year.

Her thoughts on living to that age ~ take and interest in many things and love people.

Sounds a far more digestible theory than knocking back a glass of olive oil every day! (And she can prove her age!).

I read this to my husband, who then announced that he wants to live to be 100 just so he can make up some inane thing to tell people to do if THEY want to live to be 100. (He mentioned peanut butter up his nose.)

But if you are low-carbing, it's no different than a glass of water.

I don't think that much olive oil a day is good, but that is a long life. There are so many variables that we can't put it on one thing like olive oil.

I mean, drinking that much olive oil may add 10 years to my life, but I feel those 10 years would be spent in the bathroom. . .

Maybe instead of helping with long life the glass of olive oil helps with fertility. Everyone knows children will keep you young... or do they make you old before your time?

I never thought I'd ever quote anything from the research design class I am in right now, but "correlation does not equal causation"! Just because there is a correlation between her drinking olive oil and her living so long does not mean the olive oil is what caused the long life. There are tons of other variables that could have contributed to the outcome. (Dr Price will be so proud )

No way would I drink olive oil (or any other oil)like that. That's excessive and can't be healthy for the vast majority of people. Not to mention the pure ick factor of swallowing slimy oil

I'd rather eat a stick of butter like a banana than drink a cup of olive oil... and neither one sounds very appealing!
