ORIGINAL: nealmorsefan Listen to Demon Hunter instead. Or Kutless. You know I loved Kutless when I first heard them, then hadn't listened to them in years, picked them up recently and realized... *gag*, their music is SO painfully one dimensional. So are their lyrics in fact. Demon Hunter though is awesome. The Triptych was fairly decent but I think Summer Of Darkness was their best album.

Arn't we in all things to be to be focusing on things that are pure, just, and lovely etc., as well as joyful and God honorning? I find in the written lyrics, the focus tends to be on the 'cup 1/2 empty' mindset rather than the blessings of the 'cup 1/2 full'. How do you think parents should view this type of music? Do you think that the tendecy to leave Christian lyrical screamo to secular is something to be concerned about? Thank you for your thoughts. Don't wanta scream Mom That isn't your "spirit" talking, that is just your own personal distaste for the genre. I am sure every parent looking out at their new generation that they've created have all thought the same thing about music their kids listen to. There is nothing wrong with "screamo", it is merely another expression in the musical world. If the lyrics are fine then the song is fine. Does your soul get bothered by Mozart by chance?

Skillet is a christian band do your parents know this? I got into skillet when Jack got old enough to start complaining how boring my music was. I bought him a skillet cd and we both have been hooked since.

I'm going to a Skillet concert next month! *dances* I can't wait! Sorry! Just had to interject that! *giggle* As for the OP, I actually met the group Linkin Park and they seemed very nice. They came into a store I worked at and me and a couple of other girls had the chance to chat with them. I agree their last CD isn't up to par with their first two, but it's still okay. *shrug*

I have not heard any of their new stuff just their other 2 albums. I dont think I will listen to the new one since they started with the language. I have a 3 year old that loves to repeat everything. I do like Linkin Park though. Jack loves it when I pick him up and I have a cd of theirs in. He looks at his friend who I pick up with him grins and says I got my mom hooked on Linkin Park.

If praise is supposed to be quiet and peaceful Christian music would suck and being boring hymns, at least when DCB sings hymns they change the tempo faster and add dj effects to make it cool. I think if youre old enough to tell right from wrong in lyrics just listen to whatever.

However they are quite different in many ways (but similar in a few ways). I do think that any Linkin Park fan looking for good Christian music ought to take a listen to Red.

What are some names of the songs you liked best? I have a music site that lets you listen without downloading. I can check out Red if I knew the names of the songs. Just putting in Red brought up all kinds of song from various artists.

Try Chevelle. Again, not a perfect match, but in the general vicinity.

Actually Thousand Foot Krutch and Pax 217 sound kind of like Linkin Park. Listen to some songs of "Set It Off", "Phenomenon", "Twoseventeen" and "Engage". Try the songs "Check 217", "No Place Like Home", "Forevermind", "PSA, "Fly Away", A.M.", "Puppet", "Supafly""Rhime Animal", "Set It Off", and "Bounce".

They are, however, the home to some of my favorite and least favorite songs of all time. It's like listening to Hatebreed and Kutless sort of alternating back and forth, like they're playing at the same time. Was just going off your nu-metal reference...never really heard Linkin Park. And what says nu-metal in Christian music more than Demon Hunter, right? Actually, from what I've heard other people say, I always thought Linkin Park was in the Korn/POD style circle. *shrug* Demon Hunter...isn't nu-metal. It's metalcore, a fusion of hardcore punk and death/thrash metal, to varying degrees and ratios. However, Demon Hunter does tend to lean away from both and more into the light rock that seems to be popular today. Linkin Park is nu-metal, as Korn is and P.O.D. has influences of, however, they are not in the same circle, especially in light of Minutes to Midnight. A genre does not a circle make. They share certain characteristics that make them nu-metal, but each has a different take on it.

THe old linkin park is actually rap-rock so TFK's first 4 cd's (thats what people do, set it off, phenomenon, set it off remaster) sound the most liek that. And metalcore is hardcore punk & heavy metal, not death or thrash. And demon hunter is more "Metal" than metalcore. As I lay dying is metalcore.

ORIGINAL: Rufas2000 Second, Walmart is hypocritical about it. Only CDs that are tagged with parental advisories are edited. As long as the CD isn't tagged they can cuss all day. Walmart isn't doing this out of concern for the family but rather to promote the image of concern for the family. Well, don't forget, the label is not a government regulated thing. The placement of a Tipper Sticker is up to the record label, not the government, and not the retailer. The only reason why they refuse to sell PA albums is simply PR. They want to come across as clean, so they follow the necessary standards for the world to think of them as "clean." They measure up to that. Whether or not they measure up to God's standards is a whole 'nother issue.

I think Red reminds me of secular artists such as Linkin Park or Chevelle. Honestly, Red is much better than either of those artists though. They are just absolutely all-around BETTER, in fact, Red gets more airplay on the local mainstream ROCK station than LP or Chevelle get.

I have Set It Off, 2004 re-release, and for the most part, it switches off between the rap and rock, though even the more rock influenced songs do maintain vestiges of rap. Metalcore, believe it or not, is not influenced by classic heavy metal, like Black Sabbath, or New Wave of British Heavy Metal, like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest. They have nothing to do with those bands. As far as vocals go, they usually use the hardcore yell/scream, though some use more of a death metal growl. When it comes to guitars, they are most often watered down death metal and thrash metal riffs, with little respect to classic heavy metal, and usually very little soloing at all. The drums are also heavily influenced by hardcore punk, with none of the characteristics of any metal style in particular(no double bass, no blast beats, etc.). This is not to say that metalcore bands can't break free of genre conventions, but they usually don't. Demon Hunter makes great use of hardcore punk yells and screams, and they also have a very Kutless-y soft rock approach to their clean vocals. As I Lay Dying is metalcore, but only barely. They have far more relation to melodic death metal, such as In Flames or Arch Enemy.

Becoming the Archetype is melodic death metal. Horde is Black (or shall I say "white") Metal.
