Donna--you do know how to remove a hook, right? Push the hook all the way through. Take wire cutters and cut off the head of the hook. Pull the remaining shaft back through. Not that I've ever had to do that or anything...

Ick...yeah...like I said, it would have been an ER visit.

Two of those three manly men are really big babies and would never let me push the hook through and cut it. I had to sit on one of them just last week to pull a thorn out of their finger.

last year Jake was playing with fish hooks...unknown by me.....hid them under the bed, then later didn't want to go to bed so he was playing under the bed. He hooked his leg (right on his shin!!!). In the ER it took three adults to hold him down to get that thing out...and it wasn't in any meat because of where it was...no stitches....just a skin surface scratch basically.

once Jake hooked Hannah in the head (I think it was more in her hair though). Paul decided to institute a new rule that day "look behind you before you cast"...lol

Even in the ER they will push it through and clip it off. It's the safest way.

I am so happy. 1 week from tomorrow our schedule will get much easier. On Wed is our last AWANA night, next Sat is DD1's last soccer game, next Sunday is AWANA awards night, bowling is done. We can sleep in some next weekend. DD2 and Ds are going to my nieces bday party but DD1 has her last game at 12:30 so I need to be in town with her.

DS starts tball on Tues-Thursday nights but that's always on Tues-Thurs for 1 month. I will go right from work and it's only about 1.5 hrs. It will still be light when we get home.

The easier schedule will be nice, Zoebob.

Ok, ladies, I need perspective. Brandon is attending a spin-in on the 10th. Basically it's a spin-a-thon, lol. He says they hold spinning wheel swaps there and he wants to swap his. Now, this is the wheel my mom and I bought him for Christmas, so he has not had it that long. It is used, and we paid a hundred dollars for it. For some reason, I am upset at the idea of him trading it permanently for another wheel. He says he wants one geared toward finer spinning. I don't quite understand the difference. Am I being unreasonable? Is it just pride or something? I guess part of it is how do I know he is going to get a fair trade, for a wheel that will not need repairs or anything? Argh. Some days I don't wanna be the grown up!

Have you told him of those specific concerns, Jennifer? Is so, what was his response?

Ellie - praying for you!!

quote:

Okay, my day is looking a lot better! How awful for your niece that this happened. I hope justice is done. I will be praying for her today. And I am so happy her bosses are working with her to keep her safe and employed both.
Thanks Shadow! I am glad she has people looking out for her too. This guy used to work at the same place & was fired for stealing from them, so they know what kind of guy he is. In fact, they have someone follow him around any time he is in the store. I didn't hear back from my parents, so I don't know what else (if anything) happened today. All I can do is pray.

quote:

I made baked oatmeal for breakfast and it was very yummy.
ooo Jen - do share!! How do you make baked oatmeal? I had oatmeal this morning too (use the old fashioned kind - not the quick ones), but baked sounds yummy!!!

Zoe - we have several activities ending soon & I'm looking forward to the reduced schedule too!! Praying the storms pass & all of you get a good night's sleep!

Jen - not sure what I'd do about the wheel swap thing. I think I would probably have the same concerns. Do you think it will bother your mom if he trades it? It was a gift & he does have the "right" to trade it if he wants, but I'm sure he wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings & of course, he should make sure he gets a fair trade! Hmmm - I wasn't much help was I? And I'm with you, there are days I don't wanna be the grown up & I've been one a while longer than you have!

Well, I didn't get the school room done today - but I did mow the yard. They are predicting rain in the next few days, so I figured I'd better get it done!! I also got my newsletter started (it should be easy to finish it up once I get the one submission I'm waiting on).

Gotta go practice my script for tomorrow. I'm filling in for someone in the kids program. We are planning on heading to the Chisholm trail museum after church. It should be a fun day! Hope everyone has a good night!

LOL Jen - I actually can carry on a conversation in my sleep!! My mom once came in before school & had a whole conversation with me including asking me what I wanted for breakfast. Imagine my surprise when I walked in the kitchen & she said "the pancakes you wanted are ready"! I didn't remember asking for pancakes!

I would have to ask my mom first as well.

Baked oatmeal--go to allrecipes.com and choose one, lol. The one I use is the amish one with cranberries, only I left them out. Oh, and use real oats, not instant. It is good with cream or milk on top.

Nate's hair is cut and Brandon is working on his--nowadays I only have to clean up his neck area and he does the rest! Another bittersweet moment where I find he's turning into a man

I went to Walmart today.....I was looking for one of these. Couldn't find it, although I did see it at another Walmart a couple weeks ago for about $20.

I ended up buying one of these. The last one in the store. I hope it works okay. I need to clean up the table now so I can take it out of the box and check it out. They make a bigger nicer one now, I got this one on sale for almost half of what they advertise it for.

Uh, huh. It doesn't count if he talks to you while you're sleeping. Personally, I'd tell him no trading until he has more experience under his belt. If he says you don't trust him, ask him why he has a problem with that.

Sleep disorders run on both sides of my family. I think all of my kids sleep walk. I once called my husband in the middle of the night, before we were married and carried on a conversation with him for a while before he realized I was talking in my sleep. My dd has done the same thing, but she woke up when her friend answered the phone.

What do you use the machine for, Beckey; scrapbooking or some other type of crafts?

Scrapbooking, card making....any paper crafts really.

Every month I print out a calander for the kids to number and keep track of their school work with. I also include important birthdays and I've been having them color printed birthday cards to send out. I figure now we can actually "craft" some. I'll do all the major cutting with the machine and let the kids piece them together and be creative. I think it will be fun for all of us. There are lots of other things you can do with it too - I'm hoping I can make some creative photo mats for gifts and stuff.

oh yay!!! that's a great deal!!!!! (I have wanted one for a while now, but it's not exactly top priority with extra money....I would much rather have my sewing machine fixed at this time..or a new one since we can't seem to find a place close by that even fixes my kind)

well, we got to see the last few minutes of the OKC Memorial Marathon on tv.....the winner was a first time marathoner and was a good ten minutes in front of the second place person!!!

I promised the kids french toast for breakfast, so I need to go fix it.

I may end up going to Bloomsday. This is so not my thing--I am not going to walk it (7.5 mi), hate large crowds (fifty thou plus spectators) and don't really like groups of teens, but here for some reason I offered to chaperone this morning when I found out only 2 adults and 20 kids are going

Isn't that in Spokane, Jennifer? If you are chaperoning, don't you have to stay with the kids, as in walk the walk with them?

Yes, it is in Spokane, and no, I won't have to walk--there will be an adult walking and two or three of us rounding up on the beginning or end. The kids are all high school age.

Jen, here's my take on the wheel (but remember that I am not one to be attached to stuff ). If you and your mom gave it to him without any strings attached, then it's his. If it doesn't do what he needs it to do, then what's the point of making him keep it? If he can trade it for one that will do what he needs it to do, then I would have no problem with that. He is old enough to ask for opinions from people who know more than you (collectively) do and to (hopefully) make a wise trade. The only stipulations I would have are that a) he is not to complain if the wheel he gets doesn't work out for him and b) he is not to beg for funds to get another one if he is unhappy with his trade. Once he makes the trade, you will only listen to positive comments about it. If he's swapping at the festival, I would imagine he'll be able to try out the wheel before he gets it.

My bet would be that somewhere inside of you it hurts that he's not 100% thrilled with the one you picked out, and that's why you're having a hard time with the idea of trading it. I can understand that. It's not the same thing, but I make soap and my dh still buys his favorite brand at the store. It bugs me just a little bit that the stuff I make isn't quite good enough for him, KWIM? But in the end I know that he doesn't mean it personally and I let it go. You and your mom gave Brandon something that he wanted and that helped him persue an interest of his, and that's what matters, not exactly which wheel ends up in his room.

We went and took a walk by the lake after church, and now the lazy slugs in my family are all passed out on couches. I am cleaning the barn. Anybody wanna come help?

jln--Cindy put it very well. You bought him a wheel that got him started. Now, he wants a specialty wheel. I'd take that as a compliment. Perhaps there's someone that can help him at the swap? ie, how much his is worth, what to look for in a new one, and perhaps who to aviod?

Ds1 and I went for a bike ride this morning. 70m, and outbound was all headwind! We stopped for lunch, and of course the wind died down so no real tailwind.

What Cindy said does make sense, but I'd still have a lot of problem with him trading before he is more aware of what he's doing. You really have to pray about it and be willing to let him make mistakes, which is hard. Cindy's kids are older and she has more experience in these things than I do.

My SIL got a preliminary oral autopsy report on my brother. Here's the summery my mom sent me:

quote:

Dialysis does not remove calcium from the blood. Chad had to limit calcium, (milk which he loved and cheese) and I believe took pills to help neutralize it. However a common side effect of dialysis is that clacium that is not removed settles through out the body. This is normally not a huge problem. However, with Chad his was quite unusual ( it took doctors a long time and text book study to discover it). His settled in his heart (rather than through out his body) and the small capilaries of the heart were calcifying. Eventually this caused his heart to stop. No test or proceedure the doctors could have done would have detected or solved this. Apparently Chad's case was so unusual it may become a case study. So appartently his case will help the doctors which in turn will eventually help other patients.

While it's strange it will be good if doctors can learn something from him.

When the autopsy came back for my dad's wife, it was helpful to me. Of course, there were extenuating circumstances with two people having essentially died in the same bed within less than a year of each other, which had use very concerned. When Barbara's autopsy came back, it helped to know that there wasn't something in the house that was causing it.

With Chad, I think it would be helpful knowing that his death may help others in the future and that there wasn't anything that the doctors could have done better with the information that they had.
