and that apple peeler thing works GREAT on the small taters that come in those 10 pound bags. I'd never try to use it on one of those big baking type taters though. made us some yummy scalloped taters and au'gratin taters and... I don't think it has been used for an apple yet. hmmm....never thought of using it for that....I will have to try that now!!! Sarah- the tater cutting/peeling thing is the precise reason I bought it. We don't do a lot with apples round here that require more than washing and the application of teeth. but making scalloped taters and mashed taters is a chore that has been given over to a box these last 10 years so being able to sit and watch TV while I turn a handle to cut and peel my taters is awesome. ~ezri I told Paul and he is excited to try it (when we go shopping and restore our potato supply)....we do a lot of potatoes, but because of my carpel tunnel have in the recent years (esp this past year) started getting boxed dried potato flakes because I just can't peel things like I need to be able to for mashed potatoes. I HATE the taste though, so we have to dr them up with stuff....we much prefer just plain old potatoes!! SO this method will be a life saver on my hands and the budget...potatoes in the bag are much cheaper then the boxed dried things!!! OUCH...I feel for her Ez!!!! That must hurt!!!! have fun on your vacation shadow!!! today we have to finish cleaning the house, get the things moved back into the kitchen from when we painted the other day and moved them out...then make sure everything is out of the floor and cleaned up. Paul's second knee surgery (left knee) is tomorrow.

Sarah, Red Potatoes don't really need to be peeled, just rinsed. The skins are VERY thin.

Paul's second knee surgery (left knee) is tomorrow. Praying that he has a quick recovery. How is he doing with physical therapy for his right knee? On the Fort Sill website I can check the temperature and see a webcam of the flagpole. It may be silly, but it makes me feel better to check on those things. I also found that there is a Macomb street there. That's pretty funny since that's the name of our hometown. Guess he didn't get away from Macomb after all. Last night I dreamed that he couldn't see to shoot because he can't wear his contacts and he didn't take his glasses. He said he'll have to have Army issued glasses anyway, but I hope they get them for him right away. He's pretty much blind without correction.

That will be one of many adjustments for him. He always hated to wear glasses. When his eyes got so bad that he had no choice, he got contacts and I bought a cheap pair of glasses as back up. He never wore them if he could avoid it.

Need prayers. This month has been really tough for me. I know there is a forum for prayers, etc. but I need my homeschool friends. My mother suffered a devastating stroke to her brain stem on April 13th and passed away on April 19th. I cannot seem to cry. I cried when I found out how bad it was, but did not cry when she died. The grief counselor at Hospice said I was in the shock phase of her death and the grieving would come. I know God is holding me up and will let me down when I am ready. Being a homeschool mother keeps me too busy to grieve so I am taking today off. I also know she is in heaven and not suffering any more. She had a few aches and pains, but was not too old at 75. Thank you for reading my request.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. What was she like? Ok, I have had enough 'bad day' to last me another 12 hours, so it needs to be good now! I set my alarm for 8 but woke up at 6:30. I figured it was nice to get a head start, so I showered, dressed, went to my mom's to feed the dog, and drove over to the next town to the employment office...where they had NO JOBS for me. But I did see that they had re-listed the job that I applied for last week, which I guess means I wasn't the girl for them. I came home and the kids were still asleep, which is fine..except that I am not, of course. I tried to print out some worksheets for the boys but every time I hit 'print' the program shuts down and I can't figure out why. Ok, so it isn't a total disaster, but it sure has been an annoying three hours.

Thank you for asking about mom. I did speak at her memorial. I would recommend for anyone to do this if you are able. She was funny, and fun. She loved Pepsi, cherrios, crackers, and Rome Beauty Apples. She was a single mother until she married Harry 39 years ago. She raised 4 children, 3 boys and one girl(me) alone for 13 years. She loved her family more than anything. She took care of my step father until he had to go into the nursing home 2 years ago. This really took a toll on her body and mind. She supported our decision to homeschool and was very proud of me. I spent a lot of time with her and talked to her almost every day. This has been the hardest part. She was always there to listen and never passed judgement or told me what to do. Because of a early childhood in many different churches she did not choose to attend church but would watch our church on TV. She did pray and was a believer. She got to know our pastor last fall when my dad had to have surgery and I was out of town. God had a plan for her and I can see it so clearly. Thank you again.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I am glad that you have so many wonderful memories of her and you are taking all that good stuff and passing it to your children. My surgery has been postponed and I am supposed to be getting a phone call to let me know when it will be as well as a CAT scan to check for possible kidney stones.

My mom text messaged me from the plane. She said it was so empty that all of the passengers had to move all the way to the back of the plane for better balance!

Me, either! I didn't think it would be a really small plane, after all, she flew from here to Seattle and then Seattle to Idaho Falls. But if it were a big plane a few bodies wouldn't make much of a difference. Poor gal, and then another puddle-jumper from Seattle to home...

Cindy, did Ash find a snake cage? I am thinking about taking the kids to Expelled this afternoon. I don't want to wait until it comes out on DVD and I am not sure how long it will be in theaters--in fact, I was surprised to find it in one here! But if we go to the cheap matinee we'll get out just in time to go get my mom, and then *poof* the day will be over. I am increasingly frustrated by the fact that my kids are moving like molasses in january today! It is after noon and Brandon is only on item #2 of his list.

Thank you for reading my request. When my brother was killed five years ago I didn't cry much. I knew he was with the Lord which helped a lot. The grieving process didn't actually hit until about 3 or 4 months later. Then I went through a brief time of unexplained anger. Not at anyone in particular. I just felt anger and I felt a bit depressed. I found out that this was normal and once I realized what was going on I began working toward finding a way to deal with the grieving process. Just because you are not crying your eyes out does not mean you are not grieving. Grief has many different stages and when you are hit with the death of a loved one so quickly like that I believe there is a time of shock and numbness before the actual grieving starts. This is just my thoughts from my own experience. I'm sorry to hear about you mom. You and your family will be in my prayers. Blessings

Grief is wierd. Grandpa died on Christmas Day. Sad day, but then I seemed to move on. My parents are there now visiting Grandma. Mom sent me a package. Grandpa was a jewler and Grandma sent out packages several times a week. The box Mom used was one of Grandpa's. I was hit with a whole new wave of grief... Having a not so good day again today. Had another not so good swim. Tri coach is pushing me to keep moving forward, start working on speed. Swim coach wants me to step back and start enjoying swimming again. At least I have a bike/run tomorrow. And my Ruby Girl is sporting two new tires. Well, one tire has been replaced. I have the other one, just haven't put it on yet. The kids testing is going okay. I'd say we're at least half done. Ds4 is lagging, but he needs more wiggle itme between tests.

Praying for you lifeisgood- Praying for you too ellie... sorry your kidneys are being mean to you. I wanna thank all those that prayed for me and triss last night and this morning. I still have the headache, and triss's finger still aches- but today has been 180% better than yesterday. The art show went MARVELOUSLY!~ I had zero complaints about how and where my photos were displayed. Awesome! I got my meds so I can more or less sleep through the dental work they intend to do tomorrow. ART SHOW LINK HERE I am still uploading photos to it. ~ezri

We went hiking today for school. It was too beautiful to stay inside and do seatwork. There is a state park just down the road from here, and it is so beautiful! We didn't even have to pay to get in, because they haven't started charging an entrance fee yet. They start charging this Friday. We hiked about a mile and a half until the kids started getting tired. I really like hiking. One of these days, when the kids are a bit older, we're going to have to go on a longer hiking/camping trip.

Lisa, you may want to look into parks passes. The America The Beautiful pass is one...although it costs seventy dollars a year, it is used everywhere for different discounts. If you were over 65 or disabled you could get it for $10/free. I love how you went hiking 'for school'. That warmed my heart. Last night I talked to the boys' sensei about homework for martial arts. Brandon did not practice at all during his four weeks of being grounded, and last night he came home very sore, lol. But more than that, if I am giving him school credit, I want to see him do more than show up and do what he's told. So I need to make a practice chart. I am also thinking of having him do some research related to it.
