That is frustrating Michelle. That's not a fair chance to try to be able to come to school.

I agree with Kath MBee, I'd consider getting the impacted tooth out too if you're already there if it is likely to cause problems later especially.

E is at school decorating for prom. I'm not sure she has time for that since she is still working 3 nights a week. If they work 6-10 Wed and Thurs they don't have to go to class Fri, they can go finish decorating. Although I'm going to ask her what classes she has Friday and if they are doing anything in them because she should maybe go to at least some of her classes. I could go sign her out of school Friday afternoon if need be so she could come home and work. I know what class she has then and I don't think that they'll be doing anything--it's the school paper and the latest one just came out today.

There are two schools of thought...

While you are under, get as much done as you can.

or

Work on what needs to be done so you are under as little as possible.

I personally subscribe to the second one...But, if I had known when I called the surgeon the time it made a difference that I HAD an impacted wisdom tooth, I would have asked for it in spite of my desire to be under for the least amount of time necessary. But, I left the dentist on Friday, thinking I needed 4 done, none were wisdom teeth and by Tuesday I needed 7 pulled, including 2 wisdom teeth. One of the original 4 is a wisdom tooth, I misunderstood. (or, as I think of it, the dentist was wrong) 2 additional could be root canaled / crowned. Which leaves the other wisdom tooth. If it is one more, I should get it done, but I didn't know when I called and talked the staff into only doing 4, not 7.

The duration for the work I have planned is 1/2 hour. If I add the wisdom tooth which will remain and is impacted, that will increase and they don't have an opening until summer. I don't want it done in the summer, I want the kids in school, so I'd wait until fall.

With everything together, and it not bothering me, I'll get the 4 done now - unless the doctor flips out when he sees the x-rays again...

Oh, I have been flipping it over-and-over in my head. I'm letting nature take its course at this point. If the surgeon insists, I won't stop him, but thinking about it all is driving me nuts.

I have people telling me to skip the root canals and get implants / bridges. People trying to convince me that I can root canal what needs to be pulled. I've even had someone tell me to go and get everything filled / pulled / built in one visit so it is DONE under one sedation. And, I have to look at the pocketbook too, which makes the last option impossible and I hate saying that to folks, but what do you do???

Mbee, my husband had a root canal done on Monday afternoon of this week. He will get a crown next month. We don't have dental because when the question came up at work, we felt the monthly cost vs. what we actually pay was pretty much equal. Now this, and costly it is. Still, at the time everyone was doing well, so why would we anticipate this? I'll continue to pray for you on this. I know it can be tough to make this type of decision.

Well, soccer and the play are over. There was a problem with one set of sound effects being louder than the actors, but overall the play was well done.

Color guard tryouts this week for S. She was told on Monday that she had the second highest score on teacher recommendations. (Yippee!) Her friends have been teasing her about it a little. ("Just because your brother is in the band ... ") But she's enjoying tryouts, and I have seen her working with some other girls while they are waiting for parents to come.

B has band tryouts next week. The band director told me that he is already auditioning those who are in class, and for those students the afternoon sessions will be mostly about leadership. We may be doing a show with some oldies tunes next year, so it should be interesting.

I am so ready for a few days with no activities, but I'll have to wait a little longer.

We got the extra insurance KNOWING I needed work done. The price I was quoted for an implant was $2500, not covered. My insurance has a clause that says it only replaces teeth it removed so it would only cover their part of the cost of a bridge / partial if they did the initial work. Meanwhile, I may be able to get dental that would cover the implant. I'd hate to have those teeth pulled and learn that the 'new' policy had the same clause. So, it may make more sense to wait on the questionable teeth.

In my favor, the one tooth they are extracting fell out years ago. But when it broke, it left a piece of the root that needs to have a surgical extraction. So, that resets the 'extracted under UC insurance' clock and now a bridge would be covered. Too bad I don't want a bridge there. But, if I have to lose the tooth beside it, it will make a difference.
