I don't like the commercials for disposable underwear (for adults or children), disposable diapers or femine hygiene products where they pour a blue liquid onto the product to prove how absorbent it is. I'm sorry, but if something blue is coming out of your body, you need a doctor- not a diaper!

This is funny! I've often thought the same thing - although when I consider the alternative, it might seem to be a little too graphic ...

car2ner -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/23/2008 6:26:46 AM)

The blue liquid is supposed to be calming and easier to see in the product. Yeah, the real colors would be too graphic and gross and turn most viewers off.

I personally am fascinated by commercials for women/ men/ kids/ general public/ teens/ us old folks. You can tell who the target audience for a show is by the commercials. And there is almost always a reason for the symbols they put into commercials.

Personally, I'd like the slap the agency that produced Old Navy commercials. They have always bugged me.
Personally, I'd like to congratulate the agency that produces Geico commercials. They have always amused me. But I won't switch because I am very pleased with my present insurance company.

I know what you mean, I find them really annoying

stellaluna -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/23/2008 10:04:56 AM)

I like the winter Old Navy spots, but not the summer.

In general, I like Target spots. I like the Geico with the gecko, but I hate the Geico with the cavemen.

car2ner -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/23/2008 4:40:04 PM)

There is a new one with a kid driving a go-cart. It held my interest, was fun to watch, I remember the product. Heck, if I wasn't thrilled with my current insurance provider, I'd give them a call.

For the record, women tend to like the gecko. Men like the caveman. Not sure who the target audience with the kid driver is. The motorcycle one is fabulous when the gremlins save down the tree limb to make the blacktop hot and melty...

What do you think of such commercials? Do you relate to them, or does it give you an ickiness in your stomach instead? I am thinking of a Yoplait commercial in particular where the women are in a spa eating the yogurt talking to each other on how good it is. Honestly, it the commercial makes me cringe! Do you relate to these commercials or do they repluse you as well?

Funny that you used this commercial; I DETEST IT [:@] and I really am not even sure why....

stellaluna -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/24/2008 7:53:46 PM)

Those women are dumb.

I think the yogurt commercial in particular is TOO stereotypical. They're naming things all women supposedly like/hate and it's just dumb. And who in their right mind talks about how great yogurt is the entire time they're eating it?

humbleinspirit -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/26/2008 12:54:53 PM)

Yeah, those commercials just irk me, and as you can tell, was the inspiration for this thread.

Yes, I like them too, they are very cleverly done!

But you miss the point. You mean to tell me you have never had a coffee break where you have chatted with a good friend? It has to be stereotypical because there is only 30 seconds to get the point across. Basically, add eatting yoplait to your list of favorite things.

The one I don't like is where angels are eatting cream cheeze. First of all, it is my personal irritation that angels are not dead humans with wings. And when they say things like "ounce for ounce the same calories as margarine or butter" they hope you don't remember that folks are bound to put alot more ounces of cream cheeze on a bagel than ounces of butter.

vixir -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/26/2008 10:52:26 PM)

The only commercials that I think aren't really related to women, are for Victoria's Secret. Yes, all of those items are for women. But the commercials look like they're more aimed towards men.

humbleinspirit -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/27/2008 1:53:23 AM)

Now I always wondered about those ones.

car2ner -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/27/2008 8:00:21 AM)

My son (18 and thinks he is clever) calls Victoria Secrets a toy store for men. sheesh. He has been more clever.

Yeah, the commercials are for men to buy these items for their women. Jewelry commercials are often for men who can't figure out what gift to get for their gal.

vixir -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/27/2008 11:05:38 AM)

Personally, I think those commercials are misleading. I think they should have real women on there, not models. I haven't bought a single thing from them. But if I did, my decision wouldn't be based off the women from the commercials. When I buy things, I do so because it's something that I like, can use and/or just want. It's never based on the commercials and what's in them.

I didn't miss the point. In all my coffee breaks, I have never spent the entire break chatting about the coffee. And I take issue with the list of things the yogurt is "better than." It's too stereotypical and poorly-written. I can think of other commercials featuring women having some sort of "break" together that are better done.

The angels with the cream cheese are stupid, I agree, and don't even get me started on Victoria's no-longer Secret.

humbleinspirit -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/27/2008 5:34:40 PM)

The ironic thing is would men even walk into such a store without a woman present, and would they even want to at all as well?

(edited for typo)

I'm glad I gave you guys a laugh. I riled up my boss the other day by calling our store the Pink Porn Shop. She apparently shops there a lot. [sm=aside.gif] It's not the products that are the problem--bras and panties and pajamas are must-haves. But they just expanded and remodeled our store and they might as well put a pole right in the middle because that's sex is all they're selling anymore. The commercials on TV aren't much better. (Did you guys read the comments by the woman who is the CEO or some such?)

Humble--I think there probably are men that go in there from time to time to buy gifts, but not very often. They stand outside and gawk. I agree that VS commercials are aimed at men, not women.

vixir -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/28/2008 12:38:32 AM)

I always change the channel whenever Victoria's Secret commercials come on. Especially when my boyfriend is in the room, too. [8D]

fluffmonkey -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/28/2008 1:21:16 AM)

I cant remeber which cereal it was for maybe special k or some other type healthy cereal, where the husband said " did you know that it has less of this and can lower this and its great for loosing weight, she was like you think I need to loose weight? and he said no and trys to say thats not what i meant and then she looks over and says what else does the box say steve? and he replys " the box said shut up steve"

car2ner -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/28/2008 6:08:46 AM)

How did I miss that one? Not watching enough women's television I guess.

stellaluna -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/28/2008 9:45:29 AM)

Have you seen the women's diet pill commercials with the little line-drawn couples? They are hysterical. The woman says something about her husband...wait...I just found them on YouTube.

If you asked me to name the product, I couldn't. But I can't help but laugh and watch every time I see one of these. [:D]

I think the product is slimquick or something..not sure, but YES, I love this one! My husband laughed out loud the first time we saw it! THAT is a commercial for women!!!

stellaluna -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/28/2008 10:38:25 AM)

I love that line: "You want to weigh zero?" [:D]

PaleHawkWoman -> RE: Commercials Aimed at/for Women (4/30/2008 10:32:27 PM)

I find most commercials to be an insult to my intelligence, and I am mindful of the fact that I'm no Albert Einstein. However, the Super Bowl Commercials are usually a hoot. I also find it telling that the best-made commercials tend to be for beer. I miss the old Marine Corps commercials, tho; they were very well done.

The kids still like to mock commercials for fun, something I got them started on when they were younger, a la Saturday Night Live, MAD TV, or The Tonight Show. Satire is not always the highest form of flattery... sometimes its just the highest form of pointing out stupidity.
