Charlton Heston dead at 84

While possibly best known for his roles in "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben Hur", Heston starred in dozens of movies, and for many years was able to boast of being in at least one per year (some of them were real groaners... "Soylent Green" anyone?) [8|]. Still-and-all, one of the greatest actors of all time. He'll be missed.

He had a great voice, was conservative in a very liberal town and had associations with the NRA.

All in all, a nice guy....

[:D]

He also did a great job of reciting the Scripture that can be had on tape or CD.

I always had great respect for him, the movies he chose to do, his stand on the 2nd amendment, and he ded have a fantastic voice.

Thanks
RC

Do you think he remembered to be buried with his 12 guage shotgun in his cold dead hands?

Actually, when he made that quote, he was holding a Kentucky Long Rifle.

I watched almost all of his movies when I was growing up. He seemed to always be working. I've missed his presence onscreen for some time already. It's said to see him pass.

His cameo in Wayne's World(in a parody scene of The Graduate) was a classic. It even made Wayne cry[sm=widecry.gif]!

I thought Soylent Orange had better flavor. Green always gave me indigestion.

The green tastes better with ketchup.

I was shocked to hear this, especially when I watched the Ten Commandments a couple of weeks ago. I do remember a story that I would like to share. He was at the Peace Center promoting his book at the time and he was standing by himself and a woman approached him and started talking to him and she was surprised that he was by himself with other people standing around. She commented to him about how she enjoyed his movies and he replied to her that he did them for people such as herself. That is a class act. He was one of the few great movie stars around and those are getting few and far between.

I just ran across this article. Enjoy.

Heston was wholly taken with Moses role
By Steve Padilla, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
April 12, 2008

The actor, who died last week, told The Times in 1956 that walking in the prophet's footsteps left him nearly overwhelmed. So what did the man who played Moses have to say about the biblical Moses? The answer came this week in The Daily Mirror, The Times' blog about the paper's coverage of the past. After Charlton Heston died April 5 at the age of 84, blogger Larry Harnisch unearthed an article from Oct. 28, 1956, headlined "Moses Film Role Awes Performer." The occasion was the premiere of Cecil B. DeMille's "The Ten Commandments," in which Heston portrayed the prophet.

In other words, how dare he use his life to stand up for his rights and the rights of others granted to them by their creator.
