Marcus. -> How Am I Notified When A Reply To A Subscribed Thread Occurs? (4/12/2005 1:04:14 AM)

Since we don't have the old message center or message prompt, how do we know? I selected email notification off.

Also what happened to spell check?

you are notified in "My Forums"

From there, you can also access things like your Private Messages, your sub list, your address book

It's not as intuitive as the message center was. I can't tell which thread has a new response and am going through them all starting at the top of the list. [:(]

christsstar -> RE: How Am I Notified When A Reply To A Subscribed Thread Occurs? (4/12/2005 2:19:04 PM)

there's an arrow and a yellow piece of paper next to the threads with a new post

thenewcynthia -> RE: How Am I Notified When A Reply To A Subscribed Thread Occurs? (4/12/2005 3:34:50 PM)

I see the arrow and yellow piece of paper in the list of topics in the forum but in the list of threads you're subscribed to there doesn't seem to be any indication of which ones have new posts in them. Am I just missing something too?

If you go to http://forums.crosswalk.com/searchpro.aspx?p=1&searchfor=subscribe there'll be a list of your subscribed threads pretty similar to the old message center - the ones with new posts have the arrow and are also bolded.

Ahhh... I got it... so the search is actually better than my forums! [sm=angel.gif]

This is goofy. What is that whole different link? Why doesn't it show anything like that in "My Subscriptions"? Isn't that where we're supposed to be able to manage everything. This just makes no sense at all. If the old forum wasn't broken why in the world did we have to "fix" it?

The old forums WAS broken. It was getting harder and harder to update. The archives were purged sooner and sooner. It was a big monster that no one could control anymore.

As for the whole different link, that's the link you go to from My Forums, at the bottom of your list of subscriptions, the link called "Subscribed Threads".

Marcus. -> RE: How Am I Notified When A Reply To A Subscribed Thread Occurs? (4/12/2005 6:19:34 PM)

I get it now. The yellow pages for the replies is on the left side of My Forums before the OP. So what are the arrows and pages on the right side of My Forums for then by the poster's name?

christsstar -> RE: How Am I Notified When A Reply To A Subscribed Thread Occurs? (4/12/2005 6:22:46 PM)

that takes you to either the most recent post of that thread, or the first post you haven't read. I'm not totally sure.

christsstar -> RE: How Am I Notified When A Reply To A Subscribed Thread Occurs? (4/12/2005 6:25:35 PM)

I take that back. It just opens it up in a new window.

Sorry, Cynthia. But as Trish said, it actually needed updating. Ya know how when you buy anything computer-related nowadays, it becomes outdated in a matter of months sometimes? This is due to many factors, not the least of which is constantly-changing technology and standards. Thus, in addition to what Trish said, our old system was way out-dated, and was overdue for a change.

I personally liked the layout when I first signed up in 1999, but there's absolutely no way 1999's software could handle today's technology. Hopefully, once we get all the bugs worked out, this package will last for years to come.

We're here for you to help you through the transition in any way we can, though. Sorry we couldn't make it any less painful. :-/

But if anyone has answered the original question, how do you know when something has been posted new in a thread you're subscribed to, I have totally missed it. I'm guessing you just don't.

In your My Forums, it'll have the arrow pointing to a piece of paper in front of the thread title.

Or if you click on "Subscribed Threads" at the bottom of the list of subscribed threads, that'll give you a list of all your subbed threads and the ones with new posts are bolded and have the arrow in front of the thread title.

Or have it send you an email - you do that by clicking on My Subscriptions and using the checkboxes there.

Keabird -> RE: How Am I Notified When A Reply To A Subscribed Thread Occurs? (4/12/2005 8:51:22 PM)

I ticked the option in my profile to automatically be subscribed to threads I post in. But it isn't automatically subscribing me - I keep having to click "subscribe" while in the thread.

Also, in "my profile", it has an area for subscribing to threads and another one for subscribing to forums. But I can't see any way to subscribe to forums at all. I've tried a few things, but when I check my subscriptions, it still says I'm not subscribed to any forums ...

Keabird -> RE: How Am I Notified When A Reply To A Subscribed Thread Occurs? (4/12/2005 8:56:38 PM)

Oops, I see the one about the automatic subscribing is a "known bug". But what about the ability to subscribe to forums?

Marcus. -> RE: How Am I Notified When A Reply To A Subscribed Thread Occurs? (4/12/2005 9:19:08 PM)

Thanks ta_mosquito!

It works just like you said. Awesome!

but does that take you to the last reply or where you last finished at?

Uhhhhh...

I dont' know what you mean. Roll your mouse over the icon; if you leave it there, a little note will pop up saying what will happen if you click that icon. Hope that helps.

Marcus. -> RE: How Am I Notified When A Reply To A Subscribed Thread Occurs? (4/12/2005 9:29:11 PM)

I just held mu sursor over the arrow and the yellow page. A bubble? came up stating it was to take me to the last unread post. Looks like they do the same thing.

Fritzpw_Admin -> RE: How Am I Notified When A Reply To A Subscribed Thread Occurs? (4/13/2005 10:27:23 AM)

The arrow to the left of the Title takes you to where you left off reading in the thread.

The arrow to the far right opens the thread in a new window to the most recently posted message.
