Homecoming got started with a bang last night! There was a great, exciting crowd. I felt like things were 'paced' very well. It was good to see Dr. Jerry. He's a wonderful man, and my hero when it comes to emcee work. I just love him. I guess it might be because he's married to my alltime favorite SG singer!! (She'll be at the concert and singing tonight! YAY!!) OK...Back to the HC. It was good to see local Bluegrass group, The Servers back on the Fullerville stage. Group leader Kelly McCord has returned from a stint performing with the Paul William Trio, a successful BG group. But, Kelly and company just really seem to fit together. Hope they decide to keep singing. Our area needs a really tight BG group, and THEY are it!! This was only the 3rd time the new Ricky Atkinson & Compassion lineup has performed together. I must say I was glad to see my old buddy Loren Harris. He is a special friend (as is Rick). I was very close to The Wilburns, and when these two dudes joined the group, we became instant friends. Loren seemed to sing with a renewed fire and spirit. He told me that he and Cindy had been working at their church in VBS all week, and that he hated to miss it, but was glad to come to GA to see so many friends. I think the time off the road has helped him vocally. He's never sang better in my estimation! Was good to see Greg Cook, too. I've never really been a big fan of his, but he seems to be a super guy, and I hope to get to know him better from time to time as RAC continues with their limited schedule. Side note: Former RAC members Sam & Bic (LaBreeska) were in attendance, and the guys could have asked for no better cheerleaders to be in the audience than these two beautiful people. You can tell they love the new lineup!! Next up, The Inspirations were...well... The Inspirations!! Enough said. They still have the 'stuff' that has made them SG icons. I especially enjoyed visiting with Myron & Melton. There's never a dull moment when Myron gets started!!! He's a HOOT! I enjoyed The Old Bear Hunter's one song: "Only One Way". It's haunting melody and Jack's signature voice is a perfect combination. Of course Mike was "workin' the subs" and delivered some floor-rattling low notes to the audience's delight. To close out the 1st round, West Georgia royalty, The Diplomats took the stage for one of the best stands I've seen them have in a while. Mrs. Rita looked stunning in her new aqua-blue and lavendar ensemble. Right out of the gate, she had the crowd enchanted with "This Is Just What Heaven Means To Me". Pianist Michael Lott and CoCo delivered a snazzy & jazzy instrumental. the crowd loved it! Then, Jim pulled out his winning card and played it perfectly. He let Joe Brown shine on the old quartet number, "Gotta Walk That Lonesome Road". The best part was watching Mike Holcombe enjoy seeing a fellow bass singer win the crowd. You could just tell both of the guys were HUGE fans of each other last night. I had to leave, and missed the 2nd half, but I'll be there tonight until it's over. I been needing a LJB & KP fix!! Aaah! With my Foster, Mrs. Rita, Little Jan, and Karen.... I'll be in SG Heaven!!! Special kudos to Brittany, Tiffany, Sharon, Wanda, Jack & JoAnn (The Diplomats Support Crew) as well as Pastor Steve and the entire staff at Fullerville BC. Ya'll forevermore know how to throw a Homecoming Party! And I'm sure it'll only get better tonight!! Hope to see ya'll there!!!
