I saw this on the news last night and it really upset me. A 16 year old girl was knocked unconcious then, after she woke up she was beaten for 30 minutes by six girls who filmed it. She has partial loss of sight and hearing. Her father could not recognize her at the hospital.

I am appalled at our society. I think I have outlived my age... not that I plan to or want to die but I think I was born a century too late sometimes.

The video is very upsetting so be warned. You have to click on the link to watch it, it will not start on its own. You can read the story without watching it... they were filming it to put it on Youtube... I just do not know what to think.

This shows how much our society has gone downhill. This was done so that the girls who beat this girl could be famous. Well, they are famous all right. This is sad, but sadly a reflection of the times that we are living in.

The way I see it, these "girls" have committed serious felonies and should be prosecuted as adults. They (at least the ones directly involved) should do jail time and have permanent criminal records.

Yes- in fact, I read that a family was being targeted that was not related (mistaken identity)! Of course the difference here, is that the woman who targeted Megan Meier was living at home and the one being harrassed- ie the active participant- whereas the families of these girls were not involved (well, at least not directly)and the girls were in jail.

Anyhow- I read today that they may get life sentences. As brutal and unbelieveable and sickening as it is... I don't know if that is warranted (jial time for sure, but I don't know about life).

Depraved indifference to human life while kidnapping and committing aggravated assault with intent to cause bodily harm. They might be able to charge them with attempted murder I'd think. That would raise the term to life in prison.

Life would be an appropriate sentence for this act. It sounds pre-meditated and especially cruel. I don't want them to get out until they experience the same sentence they gave their victim. Life changed from now on.

I find this horrific!

I agree that she shouldn't have been talking trash about them on her MySpace, however that does not justify what these other girls did and it doesn't justify the boys behavior in acting as look-outs.
