Oh, now that I reread my other post, I didn't mean that Wilton doesn't make silicone, but that I was pretty sure she wasn't talking about silicone.

Yes, I agree, muffin pans are pretty inexpensive...so maybe start out with a new pan and papers, and see where that gets you! Do you have a silicone spatula or silicone tipped tongs or something like that? I have a few tools like that that I use sometimes for cakes etc.
Do you have Bulk Barn in your area Cloak? They sell TONNES of Wilton stuff, maybe they would have a tool for that kind of thing.

Kat_D -> RE: How can restore my muffin tin to what it used to be? (4/10/2008 8:47:34 PM)

I find it absolutely hysterical that a thread about whether or not to throw out a muffin tin has gone to 2 pges. It's a muffin tin for heaven's sake! How much could it have set you back..$10-$20 tops? I say throw caution to the wind and go for it...buy yourself a new one!!! [:D]

Folks, I think it is a question of...PRINCIPLES. It has nothing to do with $$$$. I honestly believe it is unwise to throw away stuff right away just because of something tiny.

As a Christian, we are to be Good Stewards of our money, resources, stuff and everything else.

I agree with this.

However, everything has a "shelf life" and if whatever "it" is (in this case a muffin tin) is not working as it should (in this case, releasing the muffins intact), then "it" either needs to be repaired or replaced. I just don't see how a muffin tin can be repaired.

Not that you asked, but if it were me, I would either use it to store stuff (in my case, beading supplies) or donate it to a thrift shop (where it might be purchased for it's original purchase or perhaps by some man to put in his woodshop to hold various nuts and bolts and things).

Besides, why use something that is going to be a source of frustration for you everytime you use it?

Thanks hon/WRBlessings, for your reply, my previous post was not addressed to you.

So far, I haven't tried the muffin papers. At least, if I tried the the muffin papers and they still caused me frustration, then I can Conclude that I should throw it away.

If I throw it away now, I would feel guilty.

Cloak -> RE: How can restore my muffin tin to what it used to be? (4/10/2008 11:20:27 PM)

Also, I purchased this muffin pan only last year in July 2007. It has not yest finished one whole year![:(]

If I am to apply this principle, that means I have to purchase a new one each year the moment the muffins get stuck which I find does not make any sense to a wise person.

Being muffin fan, I bake almost on weekly or biweekly basis.

if you truly bake muffins that often, then maybe it would be a wiser investment (long term) for you to buy cast iron muffin pans or stoneware muffin pans. Once well seasoned they aren't going to be affected by whatever utensil you try to use to get them out....and cast iron or stoneware isn't going to be toxic like what WRB mentioned about teflon coated stuff. Plus they are heavy duty and will (with your kind of use) definitely pay for themselves over years time.

As far as what I use....I use a small spatula to get my muffins out if they won't come out well...usually twisting them works well though. I recently got a silicone muffin sheet from my kids (for my birthday last year I think)....still not sure about it...can't decide if I like it or not. However, the small spatula works great...it's flexible so it doesn't mes up the muffin sides or dig into it weird or things like that.

hehehe....you could always turn it into a decoration.....lol

If you are making muffins once or twice a week, that would mean you are using your pan between 52-104 times a year. If it has a non stick surface, a year of using it that often might be the life of that pan.

Considering that I use mine once every month or two which would be 6-12 times a year, my muffin pan should last several years longer than yours.

With the use your pan has had in a year, I don't think God would consider you to be a poor steward if you threw it out now.[;)]

ETA: While I'd love to make muffins more often, I have to limit myself, because If I made them as often as you do, I'd weigh 200 pounds![:D]

Uhm, Cloak . . . I didn't say to get a new one the moment something goes wrong (i.e., muffins getting stuck). LOL

To elaborate on Kat's logic . . . the life of any inanimate object is not determined by how long one has had it; rather how much use one has received from it. 52-104 uses for a muffin tin is not shabby.

Sarah's suggestion of cast iron or stoneware is a great one; both are certainly much more durable and will last practically forever. I've not ever used stoneware, but I absolutely love cast iron anything. And it would solve two problems at one time: (1) muffins will literally just tumble out when the tin is held upside down - or you can simply twist them out and (2) if taken care of properly, these types of tins will not "expire" and you probably won't ever have to buy another muffin tin again (unless you want more of them).

Blessings,
Sharon-Marie

Thanks folks for your wise suggestions and tips. As I mentioned before, I will purchase the muffin papers just to see how it goes. If it turns out to be good, then I will keep my muffin pan; otherwise I will just recycle it.

Blessings~[:)]

well, you can do something crafty in it and hang it on the wall in the kitchen. I have seen people do scriptures on parchment type paper and put them in things like muffin tins, or old trays, etc...... things like that.

If you really love your muffin pan I think they muffin liners should solve your problem. I have a Pampered Chef stoneware muffin pan and I still use the liners with them.

Yes the muffin cup papers.

Cloak -> RE: How can restore my muffin tin to what it used to be? (4/12/2008 8:08:06 PM)

Well I purchased those papers today and I have had no problem whatsoever. [:)] Praise God!

I would like to thank all of you who suggested to me to purchase them, bless you!!! [sm=catinhatsmile.gif]

Now, If I apply this practical problem to my Christian perspective worldview: this situation resembles a problem that seems to be unsolvable in our everyday life. Those of you who suggested to me to discard it are like those who give up easily when there is a difficulty; whereas those of you who suggested to me to buy muffin papers were like/wise people who never give up just bc of a slight problem.

There are some who went as far as suggesting to me to turn it into a piece of handicraft {yes that 's you my dear peculiar_lady] Bless you!!! Now isn't that smart, trusting God to turn our messes into Beauty or fine art. Isn't that Awesome!!! [sm=thumbsup.gif] [sm=sparklecrown.gif]

I appeal to you all: No matter how hopeless your situation may seem to be...NEVER give up! God is right there with you in that hurdle, calamity, mountain you're facing or going thru and He will show up timely with a lifebuoy, anchor, muffin papers or whatever it takes to save you.

Isn't that amazing how we can look at our mundane every day problems thru Spiritual premise and glasses! [sm=dance.gif]

Yes it is amazing, Cloak. We should ALWAYS seek Our Lord's Wisdom and Guidance. [sm=icon_smile_sing.gif][sm=icon_smile_sing.gif][sm=icon_smile_sing.gif]

And I'm very glad that the muffin papers are working so well for you! That's absolutely terrific ![sm=dance.gif]

However . . . not everything is as black and white as we'd like it to be and not everything is what we perceive it to be neither.

For instance, I am one who suggested you discard the muffin tin, but I can quite very well assure you that I am not a quitter of anything; not even in the tiniest little bit of the definition. [:)] I rely on Our Lord for absolutely everything and I also seek His Wisdom and Guidance multiple times throughout any given day.

My reason for discarding the tin is that I am a minimalist; and if something isn't working properly, it's no use to me and will only sit around gathering dust and being unuseful (which would be wasteful); but if I give it to someone who wants or needs it, then it will be of use to them. And that most definitely is good stewardship. It's absolutely nothing about giving up or being unwise.

See . . . presumptions about people regarding why they do or not do something aren't always correct.

Just a few of my thoughts . . .

Be abundantly blessed,
Sharon-Marie

Please don't take it personally Sharon-Marie. I was just using this inconvenient problem as a way to strengthen our faith. In fact, I did not know that I was going to apply to our spiritual life up till I finished baking my pies and realized...wow this could be applied to our spiritual life and ran from the kitchen to my PC to put into words what the Holy Ghost put in my heart to you all here.

BTW: You don't sound like an unwise person. In fact, you sound like a lady who is Sooooooooooo SWEET and SMART. I really like you!!! [sm=heart.gif]

LOL

I have never had good luck with the paper things...they always seem to stick to them, and I don't like peeling them off. Maybe I am doing something wrong with them when I use them. You aren't supposed to spray them with oil are you? (I don't....just asking cause they seem to stick to everything I cook with them....every kind of batter I have ever tried....which is why I am holding out to get a stoneware pan one day!!!)
