One thing that bothered me when I was married was that my husband didn't wear his wedding ring. He would occasionally but he never made it a point to.

Since I've been single again, I've noticed a lot of guys don't wear them, even though they're very happily married.

So my question to you is: Do you feel it's important to wear your wedding ring? Do you wear it?

If you're single, do you think this is something you will make an effort to do when you're married?

How does it make you feel to meet someone who's married but doesn't wear a ring?

I don't wear a wedding ring because of a couple reasons... I never wear jewelry; I've just never been an "accessories" kind of guy. I also don't wear it because wearing jewelry can be very dangerous in the working world. Neck chains can get caught in machines, watches can get hung up on tooling and get your arm stuck in them, and finger rings can make your hand conductive of electricity and kill you. They also can get hung up in tooling or machinery and get you stuck in them. I used to get tired of putting it on, then taking it off, then losing it... I finally just never wore it anymore. No big deal, I hang off of my wife enough that someone would have to be silly to think I'm not married. And it doesn't bother her. [:D]

Don't worry about folks that don't wear their wedding ring - it's nothing personal, believe me, I just don't want to lose body parts!

Couple of reasons...

I'm often working with power tools, and wearing ANY jewelry of any kind is a very bad idea. I've seen finger ripped off at the knuckle because a ring caught a spinning blade.
Another is I'm getting older and arthritis kicks in every now and then. When the first knuckle swells, nothing is going on or coming off. So when my hand hurts, I won't wear it.
Then the last reason is that I want all the skinny chicks in the buffet line at Golden Corral to think, hmmmm.... [;)]

Okay, joking on that last one.... have you ever seen a skinny chick in a buffet line? [:D]

Oh that was so bad I snorted lemonade up my nose! That hurt!!! LOLOLOL!!!!

So it's not a matter of "I don't want to wear it..." it's more of a matter of safety and health concerns. Hmmmm....

I've always worn mine (seventeen years this month in fact) , even while using power tools. A properly fitted ring, along with being safety conscious will keep the ring on the finger and the finger on the hand (which is a good idea anyway if you want to keep all your digits) .

I’ve heard plenty of excuses why guys don’t wear them, and can’t think of one time I believed it.

Just my opinion of course.

Oh, BTW, there have been times women did note the ring.

I love my wife and I’m happy to advertise that I’m married.

Well, that's nice but it's not an excuse... I've seen one of my ex-brother-in-law's actually weld a ring onto his finger when he was working on a car, then accidentally grounded his hand to the battery... Man that was nasty painful... Since then I really don't see a need for jewelry - just one more reason for my health insurance premium to go up. Yikes!

I'm reminded of "Tim the tool man".

I wear gloves when I weld (like they teach you in welding school). As for the grounding issue, well that’s difficult for me to see if one is careful when working around bare connections.

I’ve known guys who do both for a living with the wedding bands. No issues with them.

Let me put it this way:

What did people do before they were capable of buying a ring? Answer: not wear a ring.

I don't think it's a problem, but that's just me and I'm not married anyway.

I wear my ring and am pleased to do so. Though, the pounds of marriage have added up all over, including the ring finger, so in the future, I may have to enlarge it a little. I guess I'm not as manly as the power tool, machinery guys - but I'm OK with that. I'm a child of God.[;)]

I can kinda see why they wouldn't wear them. I don't like wearing rings. I have never been an accessory guy either. But I never thought I wouldn't wear my wedding ring.

Is a necklace with the ring too...

yes i feel it's important and i always wore mine while married.

see above and if it was important to my wife, that'd be an even better incentive. i hadn't thought about it, but it'd be a good question to ask while dating/courting ...

it's a fact that some men and women do take them for the appearance of looking available ... i'm not going to argue with people regarding safety issues and can see how taking it on and off can lead to it being lost ... i don't read too much into it ... i guess if there was other behaviors going alongside it, maybe but it's likely not my business [:o]

i am getting a kick out of all the replies to people saying they don't wear jewelry ... like wearing a wedding band is like some rapper all blinged out in shiny jewelry head to toe ;]

Unless you work with heavy equipment or heavy duty power tools... you have NO idea of the dangers! I'm not talking about wearing it while you mow your lawn. However, I often do not wear it while doing labor work because I don't want it to get scraped or roughed up. We've been married for a long time too, and if one really wanted to cheat, a ring will not stop that. It's internal love and honor that will. A ring is just a symbol... nothing else. I don't get bent out of shape over some stupid symbol. If I did, I'd be in mess right now...my own wife hasn't worn any rings for over 6 months. She has blood tumors in her left hand, and has surgery just this week to remove them. There are plenty of legit reasons, and there plenty of reasons with arterial motives.

If I were married, I would wear it. However, it is a cultural thing. I know people in other cultures where both men and women do not wear rings.

Worked with a guy who was getting out of a tractor and his properly fitted ring caught on the cab as he swung out. Finger and ring stayed with tractor.

I wear mine all the time. My hands are a little swollen these day, and it would be hard to take it off, but the funny part is, that if I take it off, there is a white ring there, that clearly shows what should be there.

I do understand and respect the powertools thing, but...

I think you wear it unless in danger.
