Leslie_JnJs_mom -> Christian Rock (4/10/2008 3:35:59 PM)

I have been a closet headbanger( well I quit the headbangin stuff since it make me woozy) anyways I have always loved that music. I gave it up when I was saved back in 1999. I have stuck with worship and some contemporary christian but no rock. I now have a teenager who loves that music. He has some christian but has moved on to secular. Having Jack listen to that brought out that heavy metal bug that never went away. I have a 3 year old however so I want to stick with Christian. I already have switchfoot, Reliant k, Skillet, pillar and a couple others. Whar are some other christian bands I can listen to? I hate screaming! Jack has some of those and sorry I just dont like it. Stuff that sounds more like skillet and Pillar. Any Idea's???

Final_Fantasy_fan -> RE: Christian Rock (4/10/2008 4:04:30 PM)

Fireflight
Disciple (some of it's screamo but they have some good songs like After the World and Things Left Unsaid)
Anberlin
Flyleaf
Wavorly

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. [:)]

Leslie_JnJs_mom -> RE: Christian Rock (4/10/2008 4:20:40 PM)

Thanks![:)]

What kind of rock are you specifically trying to find?

I just downloaded Bloodgood's (one of the first and best Christian metal bands from the early 80's) self titled album and their follow up, Detonation, from itunes. I would argue that these two albums are possibly some of the best old metal out there. You can't go wrong!

Also, and some people may think I am crazy, but Stryper's album, Reborn, that was released in 2005 (I think) is just plain fun rock and roll. They aren't trying to capitalize on their old 80's MTV schtick, but rather making new, modern rock and roll, albeit Michael Sweet's voice is just the same (excellent!) as it always was. Check out some blurbs from itunes or amazon or christianbook.

happyhippie -> RE: Christian Rock (4/10/2008 7:17:29 PM)

Justifide
Project 86
East West
Showbread
Ghoti Hook
POD
Blindside

rockitd -> RE: Christian Rock (4/10/2008 7:30:08 PM)

Don't forget Kutless!!![8D]

Leslie_JnJs_mom -> RE: Christian Rock (4/10/2008 8:04:11 PM)

Thanks for all the great bands! I will look them up. I can only listen to it at the computer but thats ok if I find one I really really like then I can buy the CD.
The one band I am really hooked on right now is Skillet. There latest album is awesome. Secular wise my son has me hooked on Linkin Park. It is not their new one that I have heard is not as clean as their older ones.
I used to listen to stryper! I did not know they were still around. I wish Metallica was christian. Them and Nirvana were my favorite bands until I got saved.

I apologize, alot of those have some screaming in them. However most aren't comeplete screamo. It's hard to find anything to compare to Skillet, because Skillet is so uniquely awesome. Those above are just a few of the bands I've been listening to recently.

Leslie_JnJs_mom -> RE: Christian Rock (4/10/2008 8:36:56 PM)

I know what you mean! Skillet is the band. I have all their albums, well sorta some of them are kinda Jacks and I am just borrowing them[8D]0

They are great on and off stage!!

I have heard that ex- Metallica member dave Mustaine the lead singer of Maegadeth is a Christian and their recent albums have been Christian influenced. I think he as recorded with Pillar too. Chris Daughtry is also a Christian.

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: Christian Rock (4/11/2008 12:12:21 AM)

Chris Daughtry: Good songs are: Home, Its Not Over, Over You, Feels Like Tonight

As Cities Burn: Contact

Showbread: Your Owls Are Hooting

Thousand Foot Krutch: Rawkfist, This is a call, phenomenon, falls apart

MxPx: Punk rawk show

FM Static: Every song on both cd's

The Wedding: Polarity CD

David Crowder Band: Worship lyrics with fun rock music.

Seventh Day Slumber: Caroline, Awake

Sherwood: A different light cd

Mae: The Everglow cd.

Jonezetta: If you like 80s new wave like duran duran or bands liek the killers that are modern

Hope that helped! Also listen to old relient K. it rocks.

PHmosh1 -> RE: Christian Rock (4/11/2008 7:56:44 AM)

I don't think anybody has mentioned The Showdown. There newest album is really great!

Also, Disciple is really good.

Manimal,
I'm all about the old school Christian metal! Love Stryper, Seventh Angel, Detritus, Tourniquet, Neon Cross, Bride... And what was that band the Jimmy P Brown headed? I forget the name, but I loved them!

Hawk_Nelson_Girl_16 -> RE: Christian Rock (4/11/2008 12:13:36 PM)

I'm definitely into that kind of music too! Skillet is hard to compare to!

family force 5 Is awesome!! They do scream a little but not as much as some of the other bands! (although I do love screamo!!)

Hawk nelson is great! (Yelling on a few songs but not screaming!)

flyleaf! (girl that screams a little but they rock! my dad like them!!)

The almost!! They are great! Listen to Southern Weather!! I love that song!!

rockitd -> RE: Christian Rock (4/11/2008 2:16:08 PM)

Stryper is definitely around and so is lead singer, Michael Sweet. Check them out on myspace.

POD is comparable to Linkin Park's style...

I think you'll like Kutless...[8D]

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: Christian Rock (4/11/2008 2:19:31 PM)

Try Neon Horse. Thousand Foot Krutch's "Set It Off" and "Phenomenon" sound like Linkin Park, so does PAX 217.

Leslie_JnJs_mom -> RE: Christian Rock (4/11/2008 2:26:53 PM)

Thanks for all the band names to try! I was up way late listening to some of them.[:)]

friend2every1 -> RE: Christian Rock (4/12/2008 11:12:26 AM)

The only "rock song" I like right now is Kutless' version of Word of God Speak since I don't like Bart's voice. (MercyMe) LOVE that song. Strong and pure...lol

LJ17 -> RE: Christian Rock (4/12/2008 11:26:10 PM)

Hawk Nelson
Stellar Kart
Eleventyseven

Good Christian Rock bands that I love. No screamo.

. . .not buying it.

happyhippie -> RE: Christian Rock (4/13/2008 9:39:36 AM)

I saw Stellar Kart in 06 and they were screamo live.

LJ17 -> RE: Christian Rock (4/13/2008 2:58:45 PM)

Stellar Kart? No way! I mean they might "scream" once in awhile during a song but they aren't a "screamo" band at all. Like some of these other "Christian" bands.

Yes, Dave has been a Christian since '03, if I'm not mistaken. Megadeth are the greatest heavy metal band to ever walk the earth!!!!

And yeah, what pmosh said about The Showdown. If you want real, true heavy metal that's from Christians, they are the way to go. I'm seein' them for the 3rd time this weekend I CANNOT WAIT!!!!

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: Christian Rock (4/13/2008 11:23:41 PM)

Oh yeah I forgot Falling Up. They remind me of Linkin Park's "Papercut" song. Both are good bands.
