Prior to Sept 23, 2005, I had a freezer with enough meat & vegetables to last at least a couple of months if we literally never ate anything else. I'd be hard put to last that long for breakfast type foods, but I had enough oatmeal, flour, sugar, etc, to go for a week or two. Then came hurricane Rita--the meat went into the trash, the veggies (peas & corn, anyway) were poured out for the neighbor's cows to eat. The freezer was old already, once I got it cleaned I just got rid of it. Now, I'd be lucky to have enough food to go a week without a grocery run. DH works out of state, DS is in college, and while he is back living at home for the moment, he'll be moving back to main campus next semester, so I have not much incentive to cook, or to stock the fridge & cabinets to cook. I still have the habit, though, of going and opening the cabinet doors to see what I have to cook with--just not much there except old stuff that probably needs to be thrown out, and a little bit of "current" stock.
