It has been interesting to see what women think when men use the phrase ," The Wife" instead of "My Wife". The results have ranged from not-a-problem to a-really-big-problem. M'love likes to tease me about it now after me telling him about all the differant responses.

So what is going through you minds when you say, "the wife"? I bet half the women really have no clue.

"Wife" is an almost sacred word. While I usually didn't use "the wife" when I did there was no doubt that I was referring to the single most important human being alive on the earth at the time.

I bet half the men have no clue either.

To me it is a phrase used for amusement/variant purposes.

Novelty.

Well, I've hear it used in a couple of ways... in a jib/jab but yet loving way, and in a hateful/scorn way.

1. What are you doing tonight Joe? Oh, "The Wife" wants us to watch "Romancing the Stone" for our anniversary... that was the first movie we watched together. Ooooh, sorry for you dude. [:D]

2. "The Wife" and I are getting a divorce. [:@]

ha, kinda funny post apzr. i don't really remembering using that term, to me it conjures up the lockhorns cartoon strip so i avoid it. i can see the amusement factor in it sometimes and don't automatically think bad about the person saying it.

The Lockhorns... wow, reaching back in time there. [:D]

My neighbor calls his wife mama

I cringe each time he says it.

Mama? I can see Mom, being the mother of your children. But mama is a bit too weird.

i never got into the whole mom name and i really don't like the whole mama thing either but seem to recall it used a lot more when i was living down south.

Yeah... down here if you aren't called by a surname or epithet, you are Ma'am/Sir or Maw/Paw.
